{"id":8872,"date":"2026-07-12T12:12:11","date_gmt":"2026-07-12T12:12:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.lanawooster.co.uk\/?p=8872"},"modified":"2026-07-12T15:05:44","modified_gmt":"2026-07-12T15:05:44","slug":"bonnie-tyler-1951-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lanawooster.co.uk\/?p=8872","title":{"rendered":"Bonnie Tyler (1951 &#8211; 2026)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Bonnie Tyler (1951 \u2013 2026)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>I have been <em>urged<\/em> this week to produce two blogs: one for Bonnie Tyler and one for Ann Widdecombe, both of whom died this week in unusual circumstances.\u00a0 So I am bowing to the pressure, but will write shortened blogs\u2026<\/p>\n<p>I loved Bonnie\u2019s songs, and her voice, and the passion with which she sang.\u00a0 She lived in Portugal, and underwent emergency surgery some time ago, being put into an induced coma in intensive care.\u00a0 She recovered consciousness later, but failed to thrive.\u00a0 Such a tragedy \u2013 she loved to sing right up until her surgery planning tours.\u00a0 She was 75.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong><em>Birth Chart<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Bonnie had the Sun in Gemini, conjunct Mars (singing with gusto!).\u00a0 Her Sun was exactly trine Neptune, so she was also inspirational and spiritual as well as being very physical.\u00a0 We do not have a birth time for her, to see the total balance of her chart, but the exact sextile of Pluto to her Sun gives away that touch of Scorpio which is heard in her voice.\u00a0 Her Mercury\u00a0 in Taurus (the sign of the Voice) was sextile with Venus, so she would have been good with words, but was not known for writing her own songs.\u00a0 However, she did co-write a handful of tracks for her albums.<\/p>\n<p>The distinctive, raspy huskiness in her voice grew after she had an operation in 1977 to remove vocal nodules from her throat.\u00a0 Apparently, she did not rest her voice enough after the operation.\u00a0 Her voice has branded her &#8220;the female Rod Stewart&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Mars trine Neptune gave her extra sensuality, again marrying spirituality and physicality.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><em>Life and Career <\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Bonnie left school in Neath, Wales, without qualifications at 16, and it was soon clear that she was destined for a singing career. In 1969, aged 17, she entered into a local talent competition, and came second, but emerged knowing that singing was what she wanted to do for a living.\u00a0 Her favourite song growing up was \u201cRiver Deep, Mountain High\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Her debut album \u201cThe World Starts Tonight\u201d came out in 1977, and she released the song \u201cLost in France\u201d from that album.<\/p>\n<p><em>I was lost in France<br \/>\nIn the fields the birds were singing\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p>[a personal digression: I wrote a poem on the back of that, called \u201cLost in Tibet in Love\u201d!]<\/p>\n<p>In 1977 she also released \u201cIt\u2019s a Heartache\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>It&#8217;s a heartache<br \/>\nNothing but a heartache<br \/>\nHits you when it&#8217;s too late<br \/>\nHits you when you&#8217;re down\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Are you singing along, yet?<\/p>\n<p>On 11 February 1983, she released her biggest hit, \u201cTotal Eclipse of the Heart\u201d, one of the best selling songs of all time, a result of working with songwriter Jim Steinman.<\/p>\n<p>The chart of the song\u2019s release has a sensuous conjunction of Venus and Mars, and an entrepreneurial conjunction of Jupiter and Uranus, contributing to its huge success.\u00a0 Saturn conjunct Pluto might suggest a total eclipse of something\u2026and it bridges the cusp of Libra and Scorpio.<\/p>\n<p>Pluto was sextile her natal Chiron \u2013 it was a profound healing and expression for her.\u00a0 Her career had been flagging a little before that point.<\/p>\n<p>Uranus was trine her natal Jupiter \u2013 Sudden Success!<\/p>\n<p>The South Node was on her natal Chiron \u2013 emphasizing a cathartic healing<\/p>\n<p><em>(Turn around)<br \/>\nEvery now and then I get a little bit lonely<br \/>\nWhen you&#8217;re never coming &#8217;round\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p>That was followed by \u201cHolding Out for a Hero\u201d in 1984:<\/p>\n<p><em>Where have all the good men gone, and where are all the gods?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Where&#8217;s the streetwise Hercules to fight the rising odds?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>That contains all the warrior fire of her natal Sun conjunct Mars!<\/p>\n<p>Bonnie married Robert Sullivan, a property developer in 1973.\u00a0 She miscarried at 39 (her Uranus Opposition), and had no children.\u00a0 They lived in Albufeira, Portugal.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><strong><em>Her last months<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>In early May of this year, she underwent emergency intestinal surgery.\u00a0 Her transits at the time included Saturn on her natal Jupiter and squaring her natal Uranus.\u00a0 Saturn squaring Uranus particularly can result in personal earthquakes.<\/p>\n<p>She was placed in an induced coma, and on 12<sup>th<\/sup> May was said to be seriously ill but stable.\u00a0 She woke from the medically-induced coma on 15<sup>th<\/sup> June, but died on 8<sup>th<\/sup> July from complications.\u00a0 Chiron was trine her natal Chiron at that moment in time, suggesting that to pass over was a merciful healing for her at the time.<\/p>\n<p>Her death would bring heartbreak all over the world \u2013 she was a particularly successful artist in America.\u00a0 But what a body of beautifully rendered songs she has left\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Tyler\u2019s music represented
