Aspects for the week beginning 7 December 2025

Sagittarius Archetypes

I am writing about the Sagittarian Archetypes today, before the month of Sagittarius is out (a friend reminded me this week!),  This is the tenth of my series specifically on astrological Archetypes.  It is time to embrace the potential of this sign, turning the spotlight on its Archetypes.

A few words about Sagittarius:  If  you have a Sagittarian Ascendant, you are likely to be more physically Sagittarian, e.g. sporty.  If you have Sagittarian Sunsign, you may not have that type of physicality, and may be more of a traveller in the realms of seeking after truth.  Often Sun Sagittarians have both, of course.

So, following, are some thoughts I highlighted back in my 2015 blog, and then some examples of Sagittarius and its Archetypes, including from history:

Storyteller

According to Caroline Myss, the Storyteller “relays wisdom and foolishness, mistakes and successes, fact and fiction on a plane that’s often heightened beyond ordinary awareness, including a metaphorical level of teaching.”

I am sure that Scheherazade, spinner of “The 1001 Tales of the Arabian Nights”, was a Sagittarian!  Sagittarians like to embroider and exaggerate the truth.

Famous Examples: Jane Austen, Edna o’ Brien, Joanna Trollope

Philosopher

Famous Example: Alain de Botton

Let’s face it, to carve out a profession as a Philosopher is a rare thing, but Alain de Botton has managed to do it in this modern day.  He has followed his Soul’s path and made it his career.  His birthday is 20th December (Sun at 28 degrees Sagittarius).

Clown

Sagittarius is known for its humour, and the Clown is an old Archetype, and professes comedy but sometimes sheds a tear.  People often wonder why Sagittarians are not always jolly – often they will have some planets of their neighbouring sign Capricorn in their chart, so are no strangers to depression.  There are people who have a phobia of Clowns – this can be a past-life association or childhood trauma, and can be seen in the chart in a difficult aspect to jolly Jupiter.

Famous Examples: Miranda Hart, Christopher Biggins, Billy Connolly and Martin Clunes

New Archetype – The Spiritual Seeker

In her book “Archetypes” Caroline Myss identifies the Spiritual Seeker as one of her new Archetypes for the 21st Century.

Characteristics of the Spiritual Seeker are very Sagittarian and include:

  • “trusts intuition unconditionally
  • searches for the true meaning and purpose of her life”

She points out that the Spiritual Seeker is a Seeker and not a Finder.  This resonates with the esoteric seed thought for Sagittarius in the Alice Bailey teachings:

“I see the goal.  I reach that goal and then I see another.”  The Sagittarian archer needs an endless supply of arrows.

Caroline is herself a Sagittarian, with a good few planets in that sign.  In “Archetypes” she stresses that the real goal is Truth, and becoming comfortable with the Truth.

There are other aspects of the Spiritual Seeker which are more of a Piscean nature, however.”

Other Archetypes

The Animal Lover

Sagittarians are most likely to be animal lovers, and this can lead them to be veterinary surgeons or work with animals in some way.  The animals they are most associated with are horses (centaurs!) and large dogs.

Famous Equestrian Jockeys: Frankie Dettori, Greville Starkey

This archetype can be seen in other ways in a birth chart.  For example, with Jupiter being the ruling planet of Sagittarius, I know of someone who has Jupiter on her I.C. (at the nadir of the chart).  This point represents roots and security.  Thus in her psychology (the comfort that horses can bring) and in her lifestyle, horses are the foundation of her life and lifestyle.

The Pollyanna

The Pollyanna plays “the glad game” and always looks for the silver lining.  An Optimist par excellence, but often a Sagittarian will have planets in the next sign, Capricorn, so their cup may be only half full!  So that may answer a query in your mind.

The Adventurer

Possibly because they are focussed on positivity, or have such an expansive energy, The Adventurer is one of the Archetypes associated with this sign.

The Traveller

Sagittarians can be addicted to travel, or may emigrate significantly in their lives.  This travelling is internal in the context of mental travel such as philosophy, or armchair travelling, but can lead to work as a travel or tour guide, or a career in imports and exports for example.

Historical/more in-depth Examples

The Veterinary Surgeon

Noel Fitzpatrick (b 13/12/1957)

The well-known TV Vet Noel Fitzpatrick has the Sun in Sagittarius, combined with a caring Cancerian Ascendant (we have a birth time for him).  He has the Sun conjunct Mercury in that sign.  His Chiron (Inner Healer) is conjunct his Midheaven (career) and is exactly trine his Neptune, indicating the gift of healing and great compassion.  He strikes me as having kind eyes.  In an interview in the Observer in March this year, he said:

This week I’ve done brain surgery spinal surgery, elbow surgery, knee surgery and a fracture that took 14 hours to fix.  By the end, everything ached.  I empathise with my patients, for sure.  You feel connected to the universe, helping to prolong the lives of animals.”

The Adventurer

Olivia de Bergerac (b. 2/12/1950)

Olivia is the author of a book titled “The Dolphin Within – Awakening Human Potential” published in 1998.  As the title suggests, she has done extensive work with dolphins in the wild.  Early in the book, she identifies herself:

“I was on the bow deck, watching for dolphins, when I reconnected with a very important part in me: the adventurer.  This part will not die, despite my job as a management consultant. As soon as I am on a boat a little voice says, ‘you belong to this world’.”

Her pathway with sea creatures is well accentuated in her chart, with Jupiter (her ruling planet) sextile Neptune (spelling success with creatures of the sea), and two more key aspects to Neptune: Neptune sextile Pluto, and Neptune exactly sextile the North Node (depicting the involvement of her karmic mission).

In her glossary at the end of her book, she offers her own take on a definition of Archetype:

“The perfect prototype.  Once created, all things and beings evolve towards the perfection of their archetype.  We call the archetype of each individual their ‘full potential’, or their ‘Dolphin Within’. “

Olivia sees humans in terms of four Archetypes.  In her system, she divides people into four types: Seahorses, Dolphins, Turtles and Sharks.

Two Comedians

Martin Clunes (b. 28/11/1961)

Comedy actor Martin Clunes has the Sun conjunct Mars in Sagittarius, and has an association with horses and dogs (Mars rules dogs in general; Sagittarius more specifically large dogs).  His family run a farm with heavy horses.  He is also president of the British Horse Society. He also has the Sun sextile Jupiter, enhancing his various Sagittarian functions (such as the love of animals).  As a character, his creation of the long running Doc Martin, is a firm favourite, at least in my household.  His earlier alter ego was in a duo with Neil Morrisey in Men Behaving Badly – well he can use the excuse that he has Mars exactly square Pluto in his birth chart!  He is also well travelled.  When asked in the Observer:

“If you could go back in time, where would you go?”

He replied: “To the height of the horse-drawn era”…

Miranda Hart – (b. 14/12/1972)

Comedian Miranda has Mercury, Neptune and the Sun in Sagittarius.  Physically, she has the clumsiness associated with Sagittarius, which gives rise to a slapstick humour.  She also has the physique of a classic Sagittarian, normally seen with Sag rising.  As a Sagittarian, I identify as a Clutz!  I have recently been enjoying old re-runs of Not Going Out, in which Miranda plays a cleaning lady who doesn’t really do any cleaning!  The phase of life associated with Jupiter and Sagittarius is mid life, and she recently announced that she secretly married, in her early 50s.  The relationship may have developed through her Chiron Return (the development of the Inner Healer), and she married when Chiron was trine her natal Sun and the North Node (karma) was trine her natal Neptune (spiritual harmony).  This seemed to trigger a new blossoming in her public profile, together with a new book “I Haven’t Been Entirely Honest With You” on the wisdom she garnered in her years of struggle when she was more withdrawn.

Two Storytellers

Edna O’ Brien (15/12/30 – 27/7/24)

The Irish novelist Edna O’Brien had Neptune on the Ascendant, giving her a rich imagination.  She had just the Sun in Sag in her 4th House, so was very much travelling in her mind from the home.  With Mercury opposite Jupiter, she was travelling different ways.

I wrote about her when she died last year: “We have the luxury of a birth time for Edna, and can therefore give the signature of her chart as Sun in Sagittarius, Moon in Scorpio and Ascendant in Virgo.  With 0 planets in Air signs, she very much operated on instinct.  Her birth chart tells us she was a leader and trailblazer of sorts (i.e. in her field) with 5 Cardinal planets and the Sun trine the North Node.“ She wrote about powerful and uncomfortable themes, with her ruling planet Jupiter conjunct Pluto.

Taylor Swift (b. 13/12/1989)

“No one is more influential when it comes to writing music today”.

~ National music Publishers’ Association, 2021

The stratospherically successful music artist Taylor Swift emphasizes the unlimited potential carried by the ever-expanding planetary principle of Jupiter!  She considers herself a storyteller, and is drawn to the storytelling aspect of country music.  She has stated that she owed her self-confidence and her “fascination with writing and storytelling” to her mother who encouraged her in preparing for school presentations in childhood.

I wrote in 2024:

“She has the Sun in Sagittarius, but unaspected, making her very individualistic. An exception is a karmic sextile to her Sun from the North Node, so she may be driven by destiny.  She has a fascination for storytelling, and one of the Archetypes for Sagittarius is The Storyteller.  Venus is also unaspected, making her a free spirit in terms of relationship… Mercury is opposite Jupiter [like Edna O’Brien: perhaps a feature of the Storyteller], giving her an interesting breadth of mind”

Philosopher Archetype

Jonathan Cainer (18/12/57 – 2/5/2016)

‘We’re not here for long. So make the most of every moment’

his Sagittarian forecast on the day he died

I wrote about the Astrologer’s chart and philosophy in 2016, when he died:

“Jonathan practised Transcendental Meditation, and his style of forecasting was primarily through Philosophy.  He would write a philosophical piece for each sign based on the psychology of the sign, and people often identified with it.  Jupiter and Sagittarius are associated with Philosophy.

Mercury was sextile the North Node in his chart, so he had an understanding of the workings of karma.  Mercury was Retrograde in Capricorn in his 1st House, and he is quoted as saying of Mercury in Capricorn that it “blesses you with the ability to sound like you know what you’re talking about even when you’re spouting rubbish”.  Pluto in 9th House also lent depth to his readings.

He was an optimist, and that buoyed up his readership.  Any eclipse or special transit was always treated as the best thing since sliced bread, and he always put a positive spin on it.”

His Sagittarian credentials were immaculate:

“Jonathan had an incredibly Jupiterian birth chart.  His Sun at 26 degrees Sagittarius was exactly conjunct the powerhouse of the Galactic Centre.  It was exactly sextile the ruling planet of Sagittarius, Jupiter at 26 degrees Libra, and Mars lay at their midpoint, at 26 degrees Scorpio.  This represented a huge resource of energy, with Mars enabling him to make the most use of his Sun-Jupiter sextile.  His Ascendant was also in Sagittarius (thus he was a double Sagittarian), and 1 degree away from the Sun.  A Jupiterian powerhouse of a chart.  Two of the principles associated with Jupiter and Sagittarius are expansion, and luck. As well as being the ruler of his Sun sign and Ascendant, Jupiter was also conjunct his Midheaven (Careerpoint) bringing him lucky opportunities.”

You may notice that with your Sagittarian family, friends and acquaintances, some of them have more than one of these Archetypes.  While the Sun is in Sagittarius (until 21st December), you can connect with your own Sagittarian Archetypes, or Jupiterian qualities if you do not have any Sagittarian planets, and explore their potential.  Sagittarians like to look at the bigger picture, so if you are feeling stuck in an introspective bubble, seek out a Sagittarian!

Aspects

This afternoon, Mercury trines Saturn.  This combines mental work with practicality, and brings focus and realism to the mental activities.  So it is a good day for making plans.  Serious conversations can also safely take place under this aspect

On Tuesday (9th) Saturn squares Mars (in the first hour of the day, so you could experience this on Monday evening).  This can bring awkwardness – for example, physically you may want to push an issue, but that approach may not work.  Think before you act, to avoid clumsiness (especially if you are a Sagittarian!).  It may be difficult to obtain co-operation (e.g. on worldwide climate agreements).  You may experience fatigue, including compassion fatigue, discouragement, and a feeling of not having accomplished all you set out to do.  Honour your own pace.

Neptune is Stationary prior to going Direct on Wednesday (10th).  If you have felt confused of late, there is a chance for more clarity, certainty, inspiration and spirituality.  If  you felt your feet were treading water, then your  path could be on surer ground.  It is an opportunity to fine-tune relationships, art, or spiritual practices.  After the turnaround has been achieved you may detect greater flow and movement.  Interactions may be subtle, but subtlety can be powerful.

In the evening (while Neptune is still turning…) Uranus opposes Mercury.  This could be tricky for communications, such as I.T.  Social media could be a bit fraught!  A spanner could enter into the works.  But if you are tuned into a higher mental wavelength, e.g. that of telepathy, you may achieve progress and flow.   Outages can occur, but so can remedial action when expert help is sought.

On to Thursday (11th), when the Nodal Axis squares Venus.  This  square challenges us to take note of the karma of personal relationships, and group dynamics.  You may work with past life patterns, or present life practicalities.

An easier influence on the same day is Mercury trine Neptune.  This aspect brings the possibility of mysteries being solved, e.g. around health conditions.  In personal applications, things may fall into place spiritually, and you may be ready to talk about a sensitive subject.  This trine brings mental inspiration, transcendent wisdom, higher harmony, spiritual journeys, and insight.  A small kindness can bring about significant mental healing.

We end the week with a sextile between Mercury and Pluto on Saturday (13th).  You could make real progress under this aspect.  This aspect can produce profound thought and communication,  honouring the gravity of a situation if necessary, and enabling meaningful debate to occur.  If you have something important lined up, you may be successful in getting your point across.

The week in bullet points:

  • Today – knuckling down to work
  • Tuesday – clumsiness
  • Wednesday – some clarity; some mis-communication
  • Thursday – personal karma; spiritual insight
  • Saturday – profound communication

Aspects for the week beginning 30 November 2025

The Rivals Exhibition, Tate Britain

The new exhibition highlights the rivalry and contrasting personalities of contemporary artists Joseph Mallord William Turner and John Constable, who lived in the 18th and 19th Century.

J.M.W. Turner (1775 – 1851)

“He was a genius of the first order—far the greatest painter that England has ever produced…”

~ Kenneth Clark, Art historian

Birth Chart

Turner had the Sun in Taurus, a classic sign for Fine Art.  There is more than a trace of the Warrior Archetype in his chart, with the Sun trine Mars, and the North Node conjunct Mars.  The Sun is also closely trine the North Node, indicating the Creator Archetype.  He had the Moon exactly sextile Mercury – a harmonious alliance between the imagination and the intellect.  Mercury was loosely conjunct Chiron – showing a problem-solving mind.  With Venus conjunct Uranus, he had an unusual relationship with society, and unique artforms, and his personality was described as eccentric. Venus square to the Nodal Axis suggests karma with the art world, which may include that with John Constable.  With Venus loosely conjunct the I.C. in Taurus in 5th House, Art was the Foundation of his life and creativity.  Mars square Jupiter gave him over-the-top energy and productivity.  Mars square Uranus conferred an electrical quality to his energy. The square of Mars to the Midheaven may indicate “rivalry” with another male painter.  Jupiter loosely conjunct Uranus equates with the Entrepreneur Archetype, and Jupiter trine Neptune, mystical atmospheres in his work.  Saturn trine Pluto (The Strategist Archetype), part of a Grand Trine, helped in organizing his compositions.  With Uranus at 0 degrees Gemini, he was bringing into being a new genre.  Uranus was exactly square the Nodal Axis, suggesting some alienation from society, and being destined to bring in something new.  He was an inspiration for the Impressionist movement.

Life and Career

Turner was born in Maiden Lane, Covent Garden, and was regarded as a child prodigy.  He studied at the Royal Academy of Arts from the age of 14, and opened his own gallery at the age of 29, around the age of his Saturn Return.  In his life, he travelled a great deal, both in the U.K. and Europe, always with a sketchbook in hand (leaving a substantial number as a legacy). His work was championed by art critic John Ruskin.  He was very close to his father, and grew morose after his father died in 1828.  We know that he had two relationships, one with a widowed housekeeper Sarah Danby, and another with widow Sophia Caroline Booth.  Sarah Danby had two daughters, of whom he is believed to be the father.

Style

Though he began his life as a painter copying the prevailing Romantic and Realist trends, in his later years he developed a unique way of depicting light, for example in “Rain, Steam and Speed – The Great Western Railway” (1844), a style we know and love.  He was a great influence on Monet and other Impressionists, in moving away from Realism.

He was memorably portrayed by the actor Timothy Spall in Mike Leigh’s film of 2014.

John Constable (1776 – 1837)

(his art) “is to be found under every hedge, and in every land, and therefore nobody thinks it worth picking up”.

~ John Constable

Birth Chart

John Constable’s Sun was in the neighbouring sign of Gemini, but there is no overlap between their Sun signs in their charts, even though Turner had Uranus at 0 degrees Gemini.  Constable was wedded to the rural Suffolk, whereas Turner was born in the city of London. They were born a year apart, and highlights the idea that often those of genius in their field often incarnate in a similar timeframe in order to push each other’s talents to the hilt.  Constable’s Sun was loosely conjunct Jupiter, giving him a more optimistic nature intrinsically.  John had the application of the Sun trine Saturn, but also the wide imagination of Sun closely square Neptune.  His Venus was exactly conjunct Mars, which may depict the sensuous appreciation of nature in his work.  Like Turner, he had Venus conjunct Uranus, but his social life was more conventional than Turner’s. Mars conjunct Uranus may have given him the ability to engineer the realism in his work. His work, though spectacular, did not tend to move from the Realism of the day.  Other strengths in his chart were Saturn trine Uranus and Neptune trine Pluto.

Life and Work

Constable was born in East Berholt, on the river Stour in Suffolk, and has given rise to the area being called “Constable Country”.  His father was a corn merchant, and owner of a local mill.  In his youth, he began sketching in his locality:

“the sound of water escaping from mill dams etc., willows, old rotten planks, slimy posts, and brickwork, I love such things.”

That highlights the sensuality of his natal exact conjunction of Venus and Mars.  He was clear from an early age that he wanted to pursue art, and his father helped set him up financially, but he was never hugely successful financially.

Next to Turner’s later work, his work is masterfully realistic and detailed, as in the painters he admired such as Gainsborough, but the colours are more muted than Turner’s.  His strength, I feel is in portraying a quintessential rural Englishness, and that is what appealed to his continental contemporaries.

He did not have such a prolific output as Turner, and took far longer to be recognized in the art world.  His most famous work “The Hay Wain” was painted in 1821.  Though he exhibited from 1806, he was not elected to the Royal Academy of Arts until he was 52.  On the continent, he influenced the Barbizon School.

Like Turner, he did travel, in England and Europe, and some of his notable works are of the Salisbury area, including Stonehenge.

Marriage

He met his future wife early in life, and the relationship deepened in 1809.  There was family opposition to the match on both sides, relating to the fact that she came from a wealthy family.  He eventually married Maria Bicknell in 1816.  Their honeymoon on the south coast stimulated his ability to paint seascapes and open skies.   This period also increased his emotional range.  He sold his first significant canvas in 1819, entitled “The White Horse”.  At the time, his progressed Sun was sextile his natal Venus in Gemini.  This sale enabled him to be elected an associate of the Royal Academy, and encouraged him to paint on a grand scale.  “The Hay Wain” was exhibited two years later.  It made a huge impression on the French painter Eugene Delacroix.

Meanwhile, his wife’s health was faltering.  They moved to Brighton in the hope that it would improve the condition of tuberculosis.  She bore him seven children, and as the sea air had not proved to be of any great help, they moved back to Hampstead.  It was the year 1818, and she died in November.  This is the same year that Turner lost his father: a more complete astrological study may uncover an astrological correlation, in the movements of the outer planets.  At her death, the North Node was on Constable’s natal Saturn in Libra. He wrote:

“hourly do I feel the loss of my departed Angel—God only knows how my children will be brought up…the face of the World is totally changed to me”.

He dressed in black, and tragically, he was left to care for his seven children.  His work suffered, in his anguish.  He died in 1837 of heart failure.

He was elected to the Royal Academy in February 1829, at the age of 52. In 1831 he was appointed Visitor at the Royal Academy, where he seems to have been popular with the students.

Relationship between Turner and Constable

Turner’s Mercury was sextile Constable Mars, a rivalrous but stimulating combination!

Turner’s Venus was trine Constable’s Pluto, a more constructive interaspect.

Turner’s Neptune squared Constable’s Sun, accentuating Constable’s own sensitivities.

Turner’s Mercury was sextile Constable’s Venus – an implied conversation.

In a symbol of their rivalry, in 1832 at the Royal Academy Turner made a last minute addition to his painting “Helvoetsluys” by adding a bright red buoy.  Constable’s reaction was “He has been in here and fired a gun”.  Constable was exhibiting a painting of the opening of Waterloo Bridge.

Exhibition

The Exhibition “Turner and Constable: Rivals and Originals” runs from Thursday 27 November 2025 to 12 April 2026.  Hubby and I have just bought our tickets.  Hurry if you are interested, as we discovered they are booked up until February, already!

I am a wholehearted fan of Turner, but very much appreciate the quintessentially English quality of Constable’s work.  Turner may be a national treasure, but the more abstract nature of his work does not achieve that unique place that Constable holds.

“The climate emergency gives a renewed urgency to their work.  Their influence can be seen in the cracking icebergs and crumbling coastlines of Emma Stibbon’s paintings and  the elemental installations of Olafur Eliasson.”

~ the Guardian leader

Aspects

It’s a Venusian day.  All three astrological features today involve Venus (so particularly pertinent to Taureans and Librans).  And the fourth feature of the week also involves Venus…So an art blog is a suitable subject.

Today Uranus opposed Venus in the early hours.  Any attempts to persuade another of your point of view may lead to intransigence or detachment on their part.  Someone around you may be displaying skittish behaviour.  There may be strange social encounters, too.  Be clear from your heart, to avoid unnecessary misunderstandings, as cross currents and crossed purposes can occur.   Venus opposite Uranus also neatly encapsulates the idea of an art rivalry.  Your dreams in the night may encapsulate such competition (mine did, as it happens!)

At breakfast-time, Venus was trine Neptune, so some elements of rivalry may have been washed away through spiritual alignment.  Inspiration and spirituality uplift proceedings.  Whatever your art form, it can be enhanced today (especially dance).  In relationship, there is a potential for spiritual bonding.  The effect of Neptune may be stronger than the effect of Uranus.

This evening, Venus moves into Sagittarius.  You may be in party mood, whether in person, socially distanced gatherings, or in virtual reality.  Venus in Sagittarius ensures that the mood stays around, right through till Christmas Eve.  It is there if you need it.  Venus in Sagittarius is a good-will-to-all men and women vibe.  Keep it going.

Then we are into December…On Tuesday (December 2nd) Venus will be sextile with Pluto.  This aspect has the capacity to get to the root of a problem, be it Love and/or Money, both of which are represented by aspects of Venus and Pluto.  It could be a time of difficult but rewarding soul searching with loved ones.  In finance, there could be hard won but satisfying bargaining and balancing – a suitable day for Rachel Reeves to make her case.  (Laura Kuenssberg gave her a grilling this morning, then had a cosy chat with Kemi Badenoch).  If you are an artist or musician, you could take a step further in your art, and deepen the value and content of the material you are working with.

We then build up to a Full Moon at 13 degrees Gemini on Thursday (4th).  The tussle of Moon in Gemini and Sun in Sagittarius is a tussle over communication, and that is the principle which can also bring them to a whole.  You may feel or see acutely the two sides of a story, e.g. some of the polarities occurring in the news and worldwide.  With the Moon being in Gemini, however, you may feel you cannot handle a depth emotional approach at this moment of time.

Friday (5th) presents us with a square between the Sun and the Nodal Axis.  This is a challenge for us to stay on our karmic path even if group pressure tries to sway our individuality.  We have to find a way to honour our own way, while staying in integrity with society or outside pressures.  It may present as a power struggle, but can be an opportunity to find higher solutions.

On the same day, Mars trines Chiron.  You may find that to be a useful extra in your toolbox.  It combines physicality and healing.  Qijong and Tai Chi would be good combinations of movement and healing if you practise them.  Active projects may have healing applications, and healing initiatives will have a dynamic energy.

At the end of the week, Saturday (6th) brings a trine between Mercury and Jupiter, which can restore sanity and optimism.  This aspect can bring good news, which is welcome at any time.  It can bring productivity, and good conversation.  Mercury trine Jupiter expands our minds and philosophies.  This is an upbeat vibe mentally, and can bring opportunities.  It is also helpful for writing projects and studying, so you may make progress on such projects.

The week in bullet points:

  • Today – relationship and money focus: estrangement, harmony, then sociability
  • Tuesday – profitable deep soul-searching
  • Thursday – emotional high tide
  • Friday – honouring karma; movement meditation
  • Saturday – open-mindedness and progress

Aspects for the week beginning 23 November 2025

Strictly Come Dancing – Part 3

The standard in the ballroom continues to be high.  I was sad to see Vicky Pattison go last week – I felt she had much more to give.  There were three contestants left who I had not written about, but one of them has had to withdraw from the competition due to injury.  I will start with her…

La Voix

La Voix injured her foot last week (as a drag queen she prefers the pronoun she when in drag, but he when out of drag).

Very masculine chart, for someone who does female so well!  Sun in Aries, the very male sign, exactly trine Mars, the very male planet.  Sun closely trine the North Node, a performing karmic mission, with leadership potential.  Mars conjunct Jupiter, energy combined with enthusiasm, equalling Gusto!  Mars closely squaring Uranus, some unusual sexual features – many people have this aspect, and often it just means electrical energy.  Mars trine Neptune – the ability to combine movement and meditation, produces a good flow in dance.  Mars exactly conjunct the North Node, meaning more leadership potential.

La Voix was born Christopher Dennis and grew up in Stockton-on-Tees.  He studied drama at Brunel University of London, then trained in musical theatre at Urdang Academy.  He is known from Britain’s Got Talent (2014), and RuPaul’s Drag Race.  He excels at the art of make-up and has his own range of make-up.

La Voix was partnered with Aljaz Skorjanic, a veteran pro dancer, who returned last year after a break.  I described him in 2014 as “an out and out Capricorn with several planets in that sign, but normally fairly lucky with Sun exactly trine Jupiter.”  He is married to Jeanette Manrara, a professional dancer, who is one of the names in the hat to take over the role of Tess or Claudia when they leave the presenting role.

La Voix and Aljaz have an enthusiastic interaspect of La Voix’ Jupiter opposite Aljaz’ Sun, and an exciting sextile made up of Aljaz’ Venus to La Voix’ Uranus.

The transits for La Voix’ foot injury show up Neptune (foot issues) opposite his natal Jupiter – uncertainty.  But on the plus side, Saturn and Jupiter trine his natal Uranus (the series has been good for her/him in their profile.  And Chiron trined La Voix’ natal Neptune (all about the feet).  To be fair, although it would have been his dream to get to Blackpool, he knew his days were numbered in the contest.

We do not have a birth time for La Voix, and the injury and disappointment may show up better in a complete chart

Amber Davies

Amber replaced Dani Dyer at the last minute in the contest.  She has the musicality of Sun in Libra, and the dance prowess of Mercury closely trine Neptune (planet of dance).  The judges have praised her for being able to put their criticism into practical learning.  Her Sun square Jupiter makes her very adventurous in life.  She also has a chart which gives her the ability to be strategic: notably, Saturn sextile Uranus, Saturn trine Pluto and Uranus exactly sextile Pluto.  She also has performing talent: as shown by the Sun conjunct her karmic mission North Node.

Amber was born in Denbigh, and like La Voix, trained at the Urdang Academy.  We first heard of her when she won Love Island in 2017.  Since then, she has performed in musical theatre and in Dancing on Ice.

She is paired with Nikita Kuzmin who has an unaspected Sun in Capricorn, which may mean he is a free spirit.  His Moon is in musical Libra, and he has a dynamic conjunction of Mars, Venus and Uranus in Aquarius.

Amber’s Saturn is sextile Nikita’s Venus (faith and loyalty in each other), and also sextile his Mars, a disciplined way of working together.  Her Mars is square to his natal Chiron, so there may be some incident or injury prone-ness between them.  However, it hasn’t shown up as a problem yet, and they have danced together for some time.  Her North Node is trine his natal Uranus, so they may have a karmic link, but definitely operate on a high intuitive level in relation to each other in partnership.

In their transits, at this point of the contest, Amber has Pluto sextile her Pluto (self-empowerment); Neptune opposite her natal Venus (acute musical and dance sensitivity); Saturn sextile her Neptune (grounding her spirituality); and Jupiter square her Neptune (equally expanding her spirituality)

As for Nikita now, Mars is trine his Saturn, so he is able to combine a lot of effort and his natural discipline to good effect.  The North Node is trine with his Chiron, so he is in the middle of a healing journey.

For the final, which Amber could well make, Pluto will be sextile her natal Saturn (a profound life experience or achievement);  Saturn will still be sextile her Neptune; Jupiter will be sextile her natal Mercury (her brightness will shine); and Mars will be square her Saturn (some fly in the ointment, e.g. she could get to the final, but not win).

Nikita will have Neptune sextile his Neptune (bliss on the dancefloor!); and Uranus trine his Neptune (high dance performance); both powerful, long range transits.  The lack of personal transits also highlights his freespiritedness and its expression.

A good chance at the Gllitterball, for these two!

Karen Carney

“I’m from Birmingham: my mum works at Sainsbury’s, my dad is a fire-fighter. We keep it real. We know who we are. I don’t need a Bentley; I don’t need a Rolex”

~ Karen Carney

Ex-footballer Karen brought out incredible superlatives from the judges last night, indicating that she was dancing to a highly professional standard.  The strange thing was, Craig could still not bring himself to use the No. 10 paddle.  He withdrew that extra point for some reason, but the rest would have given her more than 10 if they could.  So, again, we are looking at a serious contender.

Starting with her Sun sign, Leo, she has the Performer Archetype.  She also has Venus and Mars in this competitive sign.  And the Sun trine the North Node accentuates performing and competing as part of her karmic mission.  She has a freestanding unaspected Mercury, giving her an independence of mind.  The Sun and Mars trine Saturn give her tremendous self-discipline.  Jupiter trine Neptune gives her faith.  Neptune squares her Nodal Axis, so although she has not danced up to now in this lifetime, she may have a past life link to dance.

She is partnered with Carlos Gu

“It’s a dream pairing because he’s exactly what I need. My aim was to grow my confidence and show a different side to myself. Carlos is the only person in the cast I believe could do that for me.”

~ Karen Carney

Sadly, we do not even have a birth date for Carlos, who was born in China, so that’s how far my astro-analysis can go. [It’s going to be a mercifully short blog today, folks!]

So all we have to go on are Karen’s transits.  For today, she has Chiron trine her Uranus, a sign that she is overcoming a long-standing spinal condition.  Carlos broke down in tears after their performance, knowing how hard she has worked to overcome it, and receiving such high praise from the judges.  Natally, she has Chiron opposite Uranus.

For the final, as a strong contender:  she will still have that trine from Chiron to her Uranus supporting her.  She has a difficult transit just after the final, with Mars transiting her natal Neptune and squaring her Nodal Axis.  The final push may mean some acute recovery time.  Again, I think she is someone who will reach the final, but not quite lift the Glitterball.

I would still like Lewis Cope to win, and therefore admit to bias.  However, his transits are not perfect either, so I will happily leave it to the Glitterball Gods to decide!

Aspects

Today’s aspect is the Sun sextile Pluto, bearing a significant and potent message, possibly even a wake-up call.  This sextile on its own can bring powerful help.  If you dig deep, you can find the treasure you need.  It is a profound aspect which may help to show us the direction we need to solve our collective problems, and understanding the meaning behind our dilemmas.  This sextile can bring a profound air of quiet contemplation.  Use the opportunity of this aspect to strengthen your situation… For example, you may be contemplating giving up something in order to create space in your life for something else.

Tomorrow, Monday (24th) brings a square between Mars and the Nodal Axis, so it is a day for preparing your lines of action.  Karma may dictate that you cannot stand and stare, you’ll be prompted to action, whether willingly or unwillingly!

We have a congenial conjunction on Tuesday (25th), from Mercury and Venus at 22 degrees Scorpio.  This may bring some happy socializing, with great conversations. It is good for cafe culture, is ideal for artistic or literary endeavours, or negotiations.  Your communications will have an artistic flair, so it’s a good time to get creative.

Venus trines Jupiter on Wednesday (26th). one of the brightest aspects of the year.  Today could be a very social time.  The day may help in creating good memories.  It could be party time, too.  Close relationships are favoured, and romance may be in the air.

A few minutes before midnight on the same day Venus trines Saturn, perfecting a Grand Water Trine.  This can bring hope, of people coming together with more commitment and loyalty.  Venus can provide a softening role to a hard line stance.  It is conciliatory, which may be just what is needed.  Relationships may need serious resolving, and this aspect can help, whether on a personal level, or between nations.

Towards the end of the week, Saturn is Stationary prior to turning Direct on Friday (28th).  This may be experienced as a relief to some, especially for Capricornians, and may release some of their chains or burdens.  Climbing up that mountain may seem slightly easier. Depending on where this turnaround falls in your chart (25 degrees Pisces), your efforts, struggles and hard work in that area may start to bear fruit, progress, and just get easier.

Finally, on Saturday (29th) Mercury also is Stationary prior to turning Direct, so you may feel a tide turning, in a positive sense.  You may feel that you can catch up on chores which had been put on the back burner.  If you have been struggling with computers, I.T. and broadband connections, or delays in communications you may feel a sense of relief.  You can certainly pick up momentum on some projects which involve paperwork and documentation, and make some more essential journeys.

The week in bullet points:

  • Today – contemplating deeply
  • Tomorrow – prepare your lines of action
  • Tuesday – congeniality
  • Wednesday – good social connections; a softening
  • Friday – efforts showing green shoots
  • Saturday – communications eased

Aspects for the week beginning 16 November 2025

Scorpio Archetypes

I am writing about the Scorpio Archetypes today, before the month of Scorpio is out!  This is the ninth of my series specifically on astrological Archetypes.  It is time to embrace the potential of this sign, turning the spotlight on its Archetypes.

A few words about Scorpios: They are known for their sting, but I have known more evolved types who have no sting, but rather a desire to get to the roots of things, which can make other people uncomfortable.  This is how its transformative planetary ruler Pluto goes about its work.  Finding Scorpio Archetypes, like the nature of the sign itself, can be a bit obscure.

So, following, are some thoughts I highlighted back in my 2016 blog, and then some examples of Scorpio and its Archetypes, including from history:

Detective

The Detective Archetype is well suited to Scorpio because of its love of mysteries and crime fiction, and the forensic mind exemplified where someone has Mercury in Scorpio particularly.  Where someone has say several planets in Scorpio in the 12th House you may suspect they have the Detective Archetype, or even its relative the Spy Archetype.  It’s fun to conjecture.

Femme Fatale

Whereas Libra is the Lover, the Scorpio magnetism and art of seduction can sometimes be misused.  Caroline Myss says of this Archetype: “Highlights the erotic energy of the feminine.  Opens your heart when your dependency is rejected”, for its Light Attribute.

Vampire

Scorpio is traditionally able to use resources cast off by others, e.g. material resources and money (e.g. in banking and insurance) or literally energies.  It is associated with hypnotism, both in the positive and the negative applications.  It recycles energy, and therefore can be associated with psychic draining if it is not in balance or equal exchange.  There is also the association with the vampire bat, and its fangs (back to images of Halloween…).  Every Archetype has a positive side, remember!  In spiritual healing, one province of Scorpio, there is the capacity to remove unwanted energies.”

Other Archetypes

Careers

Of course Careers are not Archetypes, and Archetypes are not Careers…But it is worth looking at what makes an occupation of a Scorpion.  In doing so, you may spot new Archetypes yourself.

Scorpios can be found in almost any career, as long as it engages their passion.  Sometimes they will embrace an element of danger…There is an inner core of sureness about their chosen path.  In for example the acting profession, we had Richard Burton, with the deep sonorous voice characteristic of Scorpio, and the deep passion on and off screen.

The Firebrand

Examples of this are found under the next section.

The Spy

Related to the Detective, described in the earlier section.  Scorpio is a purveyor of secrets.

Forensic Scientist

Anything Forensic (e.g. Forensic Psychiatry) qualifies.  Scorpio is a forensic sign!  It is well-known that they like to delve into and solve mysteries.

Psychologist

I know many Scorpios in the psychotherapeutic industry.  It is their area of healing, which brings me to…

Healer

In the zodiac colour wheel, Scorpio is the colour Indigo, between Blue for Libra and Purple for Sagittarius.

In the book “What Colour Are You?” by Lila Bek, she states:

“INDIGO [in the aura] indicates a past life as a healer and if it appears in the triple crown we are probably now a doctor of some kind.”

Applied to a specific area of healing, she writes:

“INDIGO rarely appears in the BLUE throat centre.  It may indicate someone who heals with the voice, a hypnotist perhaps, or a mother who is singing a lullaby to her child.”

The Inner Healer is represented in the birth chart by the asteroid Chiron, but it has not been assigned to a particular sign.

Shared Archetypes

Scorpio shares the Warrior Archetype with Aries, and the Poet Archetype with Pisces.

Poets who wrote in a characteristically sensuous way were John Keats (themes of nature, love and death) and Sylvia Plath (themes of love and death).

Volcano

In a more frivolous example, Scorpio John Cleese illustrated what can happen when the volcanic nature of Scorpio gets out of hand, in creating Basil Fawlty.  It is tempting to describe Basil as his alter ego, but I would not dare.  It is difficult to imagine anyone else playing Basil.  John has Sun, Mercury and Venus in Scorpio, but his Sun at the beginning of Scorpio is conjunct his North Node at the end of Libra (3 degrees apart), which suggests that potent expression.

Historical/more in-depth Examples

Research Scientist

Marie Curie (b 7/11/1867 – 4/7/1934

Marie had the Sun, Midheaven, Saturn, Venus and Mars in Scorpio, so was heavy with the sign.  In addition, her Sun was exactly opposite Pluto and her Moon closely sextile Pluto, adding even more Scorpionic flavour to her chart.  She had an exact square between Uranus and Neptune, enabling her to capture complexity through her science.  The planet Uranus was closely sextile her North Node.  She worked with radioactive materials, Uranium and Polonium. She worked for four years extracting one-tenth of a gram of radium from one ton of uranium mine waste.  Uranus was exactly opposite her Descendant, a picture of her relationship with these elements, and her relationship with Pierre Curie, which ended with his sudden death.  She herself died of radiation poisoning, but not before she had earned two Nobel prizes.  Her transits at the first prize in 1903 showed: Chiron sextile her natal Chiron with Jupiter exactly on her Chiron, the South Node on her Neptune (showing reward for past work), and the Nodal Axis square her Ascendant/Descendant axis and Uranus.

Two Firebrands:

Benvenuto Cellini (3/11/1500 – 13/2/1571)

Artist Benvenuto Cellini is often referred to as a “Firebrand”.  He had a very Scorpionic chart with Mercury, Venus, Mars, the Sun and ruler Pluto all packed in that sign.  He led a colourful and stormy life, and an operetta “The Firebrand of Florence” was dedicated to him.  Pluto was conjunct his South Node, which suggested that he had conducted previous lives in the same manner!  Artistically, he was known as a prominent goldsmith and sculptor during the Italian Renaissance.

Zack Polanski (b. 2/11/1982)

Written recently: “Zack has a specialist’s chart, planets bunched up and concentrated in a segment of the zodiac, which helps to provide the passion for his cause: who doesn’t want the planet to succeed?  His Sun is in Scorpio, one of the Warrior signs, and he exhibits one of its possible archetypes, The Firebrand.”..[His Sun] is trine the North Node, providing leadership qualities.  He has Mercury sextile Mars… giving him a quick and incisive wit, but also in his case, he talks ten to the dozen, as you could expect with this aspect.

His zeal is dedicated to growing the popularity of the Green Party, and reforming politics.

Two Hypnotists:

The ability to transform energy is often constructively used, for example in regression or hypnotherapy.

Brian Weiss (b. 6/11/1944)

Brian Weiss (born 6th November) is a doctor who has written many books on regression and one on future life progression.  Brian has Sun, Mars and Mercury in Scorpio.  Pluto also squares his natal Sun, adding to his Scorpionic/Plutonic intensity.  His books are all worth reading, especially “One Soul, Many Bodies”, and I did attend one of his workshops several years ago.

Paul McKenna (b. 8/11/1963)

Hypnotist Paul McKenna (born 8th November) whose best sellers include “I can make you Sleep”/lose weight etc.”  Paul has the Sun exactly conjunct Neptune in Scorpio, and also conjunct Mercury in that sign.  He has the Sun closely trine North Node – leadership and showmanship.  He also has the North Node trine Chiron, indicating the Healer Archetype.

You may notice that with your Scorpio family, friends and acquaintances, some of them have more than one of these Archetypes.  While the Sun is in Scorpio (until 22nd November), you can connect with your own Scorpio Archetypes, or Plutonic qualities if you do not have any Scorpio planets, and explore their potential.  Scorpio and Capricorn are probably the most difficult signs to inhabit and negotiate in incarnation, and while one is not supposed to have favourites, I always do say that Scorpio is my favourite sign.

Next week: Strictly Come Dancing – Part 3

Aspects

Balancing out from last week’s dearth of aspects, we have a good number this week.  As it happens, balance is a theme for the week’s aspects generally.

Tomorrow (Monday 17th) we have a marvellous trine between the Sun and Jupiter.  This is one of the brightest aspects of the year.  If you have been feeling stressed, you may experience a welcome distraction.  It’s a happy-go-lucky aspect where circumstances allow.  So whatever lights your candle today, grasp the opportunity.  Good cheer, laughter, and adventure may characterize this time.

As Jupiter is still in a balancing trine with Saturn (though now retrograde), the Sun trines Saturn on Monday as well, creating a Grand Water Trine.  That provides a quieter and more constructive space, solid and productive, so you can see that much can be accomplished with the previous aspect.  If you are engaged in creativity, it can help ensure that the creativity works on a practical level.  Simplifying your plans, or making economies, may make them more workable. This is especially useful to bear in mind if you own a business, and are considering staffing and resources.

As if to further cement and consolidate the achievements of the day, Mercury sextiles Pluto in the evening.  The Scorpio Archetypes in my main piece go to show the power that is possible whenever Pluto lends a helpful hand.  This aspect brings a profound touch to your communications.  It is a harmonious aspect which can produce profound honouring of the gravity of a situation if necessary, and enabling meaningful debate to occur.  It is a good space for reading something profound.  Maybe there is something in your pile of pending books you have been putting off, if so, now’s the time to tackle it.

You will need a timetable for Wednesday (19th):

3.20 a.m. – Mercury in Scorpio

Mercury enters Scorpio, bringing greater intensity, depth and rigour to our mental functioning and purpose.  The mental outlook is more forensic in nature, and looks deeper than the surface, than was characterized under Mercury in Libra.  You may have more courage to look at what really matters, and to worry less about how things appear to others

Morning – Venus trine North Node.

This aspect can make way for personal karmic breakthroughs (e.g. through forgiveness).  This links karma with harmony and love, and reminds us that love is a force underlying a great deal of human interaction.  In the words of Jo Cox  “we are far more united and have far more in common than that which divides us”.  It also reminds us of the Hindu law of ahimsa, or harmlessness, required to neutralize and promote good karma.

11.45 a.m. – Mercury opposite Uranus

Uranus to Mercury brings surprises, but also split opinions. In your everyday life, you may be trying to figure out the answer to a puzzle, or be downloading information from your superconscious mind.  In trying to implement ideas during the day, you may encounter technical hitches and glitches, though.  The last manifestation of this aspect brought about a Microsoft outage.

12.22 Hrs – Mercury trine Neptune

Despite hitches and glitches, things may then fall into place spiritually, with some higher insight. This may result in an increased readiness to talk about a sensitive subject.  This trine brings mental inspiration, transcendent wisdom, higher harmony, spiritual journeys.  It’s a kind astrological note.

Thursday (20th) brings a New Moon at 28 degrees Scorpio in the morning.  This enables a new start, which can be seen as a sign of Regeneration.  There may be a certain amount of letting go required, before the fresh start can be established.  It’s a good day for spotting Scorpio Archetypes in others, or connecting with your own!

The intensity of Scorpio is shored up by a conjunction between the Sun and Mercury, also at 28 degrees Scorpio, and also in the morning.  If it’s your birthday, it will be a humdinger!  The conjunction will reinforce the theme of concentrating our minds on the deeper issues.  The Sun and Mercury together may come up with some insightful solutions. Hope may be rekindled and the light at the end of a tunnel glimpsed.

But the most important aspect of the day (and week) comes in the early afternoon, and is a big balancing aspect, in the shape of Uranus sextile Neptune.  This aspect balances Intuition and Psychism, enabling those two qualities to rise to a higher level through harmony and co-operation.  It enables us to handle greater levels of complexity, and possibly make some sense of what is going on  in the world.  Information may be made available to us, which we might not have previously been ready for.

On Friday (21st) be ready for the unexpected.  Uranus opposing the Sun will require new insight, resolve and conviction.  You have to get with the programme, or be left behind.  Maybe you are challenged by an upgrade on your phone, and can’t use it until you sort it out!

Again, Neptune comes to our rescue, at lunchtime, with a trine to the Sun.  This may give rise to a positive day for the expression of spirituality.  It would be a graceful day, if it were not for the disruption of Uranus:  therefore expand your consciousness, and allow your imagination to embellish your work, or project in hand.

The aspects for the last day of the week (Saturday 22nd) are merciful, if not fortuitous.  First the Sun goes into Sagittarius which ushers in the season of celebration.  ‘Tis the season to be jolly, at least in the preparation and anticipation of Christmas, though ingenuity will be needed all round recognizing the need to draw in the economic horns.  Many will have no choice but to do so, but it throws us even more on to the spirit of the matter,  and helps us to focus on our values.  Sagittarius also represents philosophy, working out your ethics, values and how you feel about the meaning of life, and religion.  Despite the need to balance the books, the general principle of Sagittarius is expansion and generosity.

The evening brings two trines, the first being Mercury trine Saturn.  This combines mental work with practicality, and brings focus and realism to the mental activities.  So it is a good day for making plans.  Serious conversations can also safely take place under this aspect.  It favours book keeping after a day’s shopping and spending!

And then, literally the last hour of the week, a Gift from the Universe: Mercury trine Jupiter.

This aspect will help business transactions, and expand our horizons, minds and philosophies.  This is an upbeat vibe mentally, one that takes in great wads of information, produces good ideas and may incline one to travel.  There may be media opportunities, for those so inclined, and it could be a productive day.  A cause for optimism may be found.  It may also assist nations reaching out to each other.

The week in bullet points:

  • Tomorrow – happy-go-lucky; a constructive space; profound communications
  • Wednesday – greater intensity; karmic harmony; technical hitches; spiritual insight
  • Thursday – new beginning; deep perception; balance and complexity
  • Friday – expect the unexpected; spiritual expression
  • Saturday – optimism; knuckling down to paperwork; expanded minds

Aspects for the week beginning 9 November 2025

Zohran Mamdani

“In the coming months, I and my team will build a city hall capable of delivering on the promises of this campaign.  We will form an administration that is equal parts capable and compassionate, driven by integrity and willing to work just as hard as the millions of New Yorkers who call this city home.”

~ Zohran Mamdani

Left wing candidate Zohran Mamdani (aged only 34) was elected Mayor of New York City this week, promising the earth to disaffected voters, but unsettling President Trump.  It is hoped that his victory is the beginning of a fight back by the Democrats, but of course time will tell.

“An unashamed democratic socialist had won control of the capital of capitalism”

~ Ed Pilkington, writing of the event in the Guardian

Birth Chart

As we have a birth time for Zohran Mamdani, I can straightaway give his astrological vital statistics: Sun in Libra, Moon in Aquarius, and Ascendant in Leo.  Several Archetypes pop up immediately: the Sun conjunct Mars (Warrior Archetype); Mercury conjunct Mars (Critic Archetype); Venus closely trine Uranus (The Charmer); Jupiter trine Uranus (The Entrepreneur).

He is also intelligent and broad minded, often described as “optimistic” (Mercury sextile Jupiter), sociable (Venus closely conjunct Jupiter), can be ruthless (Mars square Saturn), lucky in career (Jupiter trine the Midheaven), politically motivated in relation to others (Saturn on the Descendant), able to compute complexity (Uranus conjunct Neptune), a spiritual leader (Neptune on his North Node), and a Fixer (Chiron in the 1st House).  All eminent qualifications for what he has ambitions to do.

Life and Career

Zohran was born in Kampala, Uganda.  His father was a postcolonial academic and his mother (also a Libran) was a filmmaker.  His family settled in New York when he was seven years old.  He was educated in New York, and attained a bachelor’s degree in Africana Studies from Bowdoin College.  He was first elected to the New York State Assembly in 2020.

His rise to fame has been meteoric in a short time.  It took only nine months for Mamdani to transform from an unknown assemblyman in the New York state legislature to becoming mayor-elect.

His policies included support for free city buses, cheap city-run grocers, tax hikes on the rich, fewer cops, and free childcare and a rent freeze in rent-stabilized housing.

Kindred Spirits

Bernie Sanders

“Zohran Mamdani is modelling a different kind of politics”

~ Bernie Sanders

Bernie Sanders, prominent voice of the left wing, eschewed the big donations of the main parties, and went down the small-donor route when campaigning to be the Democratic candidate in 2016.  This tactic was employed by Mamdani against his opponent Cuomo.  Zohran has described him as “the single most influential political figure in my life.”  There are some similarities in their birth charts.

In 2020 I wrote about Bernie:

“The Sun in Virgo suggest a purist in some form, in this case in ideology.  It is situated in his 10th House of Career and Politics, and he has been unwavering throughout his life in his ideals.  The Sun is loosely conjunct the North Node too, indicating a leader.  The North Node also conjuncts Neptune, adding the flavour of a spiritual leaderHe has popularity and social skills (Venus trine Jupiter), and is peace-loving (Mercury and Venus in Libra”

The most striking similarity between their charts is the Neptune conjunction with the North Node.

Sadiq Khan

Sadiq Khan is also a Muslim, and also a Libran, Mayor of London.  It’s a powerful parallel across the pond, neat counterparts for a partnership, and although coming in for criticism (e.g. from Donald Trump), Khan has delivered a steady job in the role since 2016.  Mamdani’s election is an endorsement of anti-racism when you consider that Donald Trump is “anti-immigrant” and the very high-profile Nigel Farage is “anti-immigrant” on our side.  Khan and Mamdani could build a bridge.

In 2017 I wrote about Sadiq:

He put himself out there, among the angry residents this week, and sad to say he was heckled and had bottles thrown at him.  No one could accuse him of lacking courage.  His courage and energy are shown in his chart (again without a birth time) by Mars conjunct Pluto in Virgo (he does get on with the job…His North Node (karmic mission) is at 0 degrees Pisces, the essence of compassion.

His North Node in Pisces is resonant of  Sanders’ and Mamdani’s North Node conjunct Neptune.

Zack Polanski

Though Zack Polanski, leader of the Green Party here, has not (yet) grabbed the same level of power as Mamdani, he shows the same level of reforming zeal with some similarities in policy, which saw him win the leadership hands down (85% of the vote), and a similar ambition.

In October, the Green Party website proudly announced:

“The Green Party of England and Wales has today announced that its membership has surged past 100,000 members, the highest in the Party’s history. This marks over a 45% increase since Zack Polanski was elected Leader of the party last month.”

In September I wrote about Zack:

His Sun is in Scorpio, one of the Warrior signs, and he exhibits one of its possible archetypes, The Firebrand…[His Sun] is trine the North Node, providing leadership qualities He has Mercury sextile Mars… giving him a quick and incisive wit, but also in his case, he talks ten to the dozen, as you could expect with this aspect.”

His Mercury-Mars sextile echoes Mamdani’s conjunction of those two planets: the ability to effectively communicate that reforming zeal.

Transits on Election

The transits on Mamdani’s election on 4th November show up as follows:

Pluto square his natal Mars (an element of danger); Neptune trine his natal Mars (charm and magnetism); Uranus trine his Saturn (political success); Chiron opposite his Sun (aiming to fix things); and North Node sextile his Neptune (coming into his spiritual power).

Mamdani not only presented a new set of policies, but a new way of canvassing during the campaign where he galvanised a huge groundswell of support:

Part of the strategy to woo back Trump defectors was an emphasis on showing respect for everyone on the doorstep.  Canvassers were encouraged to engage with people without judgement.”

~ Ed Pilkington

Trump has vowed to make his aims impossible, by wielding all the power he has.  Mamdani is going after the wealthy, Trump is shoring up the billionaires – it’s a tug of war to watch.

“The future looks a little brighter.  It’s a reminder that when we come together around strong, forward-looking leaders who care about the issues that matter, we can win”.

~ Barack Obama

Next week: Scorpio Archetypes

Aspects

Very slim pickings this week, with two of the three astrological features being Retrogrades, and the third is a conjunction.

So the general trend for the week is retracing our steps, and attending to unfinished business/loose ends/dotting the I’s and crossing the t’s.

First up is Retrograde Mercury today.  Depending on how you are normally affected, be clear in your communications for the next three weeks, in order to avoid misunderstandings and loopholes.  Although technology can go awry, it can be a good period to upgrade such devices.  You may have developed your own strategies, according to past experiences.

Yasmin Bolland and Kim Farnell tell us in “The Mercury Retrograde Book” that this placing in Sagittarius promises:

“Here’s your chance to look at the bigger picture of your life – …if your plans have come unstuck recently, perhaps you have been focusing too much on the details?  Upsets now can also simply be due to the fact that your timing was off.”

The second Retrograde comes on Tuesday (11th), and the planet concerned is Jupiter.  This could find us feeling we are in a state of flux.  You may have been working along a particular line and making steady progress, but now have to re-assess.  There is a possibility of a U-turn by someone in power, or you may make a U-turn in  your own life.  I have a pet name for this Retrograde, “the pirouette” from a personal experience I had in 2008, with Jupiter being my ruling planet.  I always think of Jupiter in a tutu when it turns retrograde!

The last feature comes in the middle of the week, on Wednesday (12th), when Mercury conjoins with Mars.  I call this conjunction “busy-busy-busy”!  It may assist you in getting things done.  It brings brisk action, mental and physical stimulation, and can help movement in your projects.  There is a small element of risk of being incident-prone, as in minor cuts and bruises.  So mindfulness is a key to successful outcomes.  It is mentally acute and favours critical thinking, if you are composing an analysis, a review or critique.

It is worth noting that Zohran Mamdani has this conjunction in his natal chart: so it can fire your communication on reforming zeal.

The week in bullet points:

  • Today – communication glitches
  • Tuesday – re-examining our philosophy
  • Wednesday – communicating reforming zeal

Aspects for the week beginning 2 November 2025

Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau

In a week’s headlines wrought with sadness, sorrow and tragedy, I am choosing this week to write about an unlikely romance, between a pop star and a politician – between Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau.  They were openly seen together in public, last weekend, though rumoured to have been seeing each other for a little while. Trudeau had parted from a long marriage, and Katy had split up from actor Orlando Bloom.  What has brought them together, astrologically?

Katy Perry Birth Chart

We are fortunate enough to have birth times for both of them.  Katy has the Sun in Scorpio, Moon in Scorpio, and Ascendant in Scorpio.  A triple Scorpio! – that is quite rare!  Added to that, the Sun in her chart is exactly conjunct Pluto, the ruler of Scorpio, so you could argue she is a quadruple Scorpio.  And of course, with Pluto in its own sign of Scorpio, and in addition Mercury/Saturn in Scorpio, I could go on…

The Moon in her chart is exactly conjunct Saturn, so she may have the Ivory Tower Archetype. Mercury sextiles Mars in her chart, giving her the Critic Archetype.  Mercury closely conjunct the Ascendant, rising, suggests the Teacher Archetype.  There are plenty of Archetypes to see here (I will shortly be writing about the Scorpio Archetypes).  Her magnetism comes from all that Scorpio, plus a conjunction of Venus and Uranus.  Mars conjunct Jupiter gives her great Gusto!

Life and Career

Katy was born in Santa Barbara, California.  She had a very strict upbringing.  Both her parents were Pentecostal pastors. Her earliest musical inspiration was Alanis Morisette, and her parents allowed her a vocal training.  They also bought her a guitar for her 13th birthday. She released a gospel album at the age of 16, which flopped.  It wasn’t until 2008, at the age of 24, that she achieved success with an album entitled “One of the Boys”, and the hugely successful single from that album: “I Kissed a Girl” (which was co-written with Dr Luke).  The single was released on 28th April 2008, with Saturn sextile her natal Pluto (an important and solid transit).  From there, she went on to make history as one of the best-selling music artists of all time, and is among the wealthiest.

Relationships

In mid-2009 she met Russell Brand, became engaged on 31st December of that year, and married him on 23rd October 2010 in India.  Their synastry?:

Her Moon/Saturn was trine his Saturn;  her Venus was sextile his Pluto; his Moon/Jupiter was trine her Midheaven; his Venus was sextile his North Node; and his Mars was trine her Uranus.  That’s a strong attraction, but the marriage only lasted 14 months, Brand ended the marriage by text, and Katy was by all accounts heartbroken.  She responded cryptically to the later allegations about his sexual misconduct, saying she knew the “truth”.

She began a relationship with the actor Orlando Bloom in 2016.  Their interaspects are not spectacular, but what they did have were some real similarities in their aspects, so they would have understood each other.  Orlando’s South Node was conjunct Katy’s Chiron, and his Uranus was conjunct her Mercury (a mental compatibility).  The relationship lasted until June this year.  Katy has a four year old daughter.

In the meantime, Katy went into Space on the Blue Origin NS-31, with five other women, on 14th April.  Mars was sextile her natal North Node – a brave karmic adventure.  Perhaps the flight altered her perspective on life.

She has accomplished a great deal musically in her 40-odd years, but I have to add a personal note: that I enjoyed her performance in the Just Eat advert circa 2022!

Justin Trudeau

Justin Trudeau served as the 23rd Prime Minister of Canada from 2015 to 14th March this year.  He announced the separation from his wife on 2nd August 2023; they have three children together.  Like Orlando, Justin is a Capricornian, which on paper is harmonious with Scorpio.  Justin has a T-square between the Sun, Mars and Pluto, which is dynamic and fiery.  He has much of the warrior within him.  His Sun is exactly trine his Ascendant on the 5th House cusp, making him very creative, with leadership potential (one factor in his political career as Prime Minister of Canada).  He has Saturn closely trine Pluto – The Strategist Archetype.  Charts are often inherited in their characteristics, and his father Pierre, who governed Canada before him, had Saturn exactly sextile Pluto, a close match.  Justin’s Saturn is right at the top of his chart, conjunct his careerpoint the Midheaven, which also points to politics – he seems to have been born into it.  He has a bright, problem-solving mind, as evinced by Mercury conjunct Jupiter and trine Chiron.  He has the capacity for loyalty, in Venus trine Saturn, exactly sextile Neptune and closely trine Pluto.  Venus is at 3 degrees Aquarius, where transformative Pluto had been working on his love life over the last year.

The strong synastry links between the Trudeau father and son is as follows: their Ascendants were sextile; Justin’s Sun squared Pierre’s Chiron; Justin’s Venus was sextile Pierre’s Chiron; Justin’s Jupiter was trine Pierre’s Moon; Justin’s Neptune was trine Pierre’s Chiron; and Justin’s Ascendant was conjunct Pierre’s Mars.

Synastry between Katy and Justin

What does the relationship look like astrologically?

Their Suns are sextile within 1 degree of each other; their Venuses are sextile within 3 degrees – two good indications.  Katy’s Moon is conjunct Justin I.C., which may assist a feeling of security for both.  Katy’s Venus is conjunct Justin’s Neptune, so there may be idealism and/or illusion present.  Justin Moon is trine Katy’s Midheaven, which may benefit her career.  Justin’s Mercury is conjunct Katy’s Mars, which may sharpen her Inner Critic Archetype.  And Justin’s Mars is sextile Katy’s North Node – old past life battles may have drawn them together, and that may encourage joint activism for shared causes.

Current Transits

The transits of last weekend when their relationship was aired show important transits for Justin.  He had Pluto (which is still conjunct his natal Venus) trine his natal Pluto (self-empowerment), Pluto trine his natal Saturn, creating an Air Grand Trine, and reinforcing his natal Saturn-Pluto trine (Strategist Archetype).  He also had Uranus on his natal Saturn, creating shock changes in his life.

Contrastingly, Katy had Pluto square to her Pluto/Sun.  There may be a sense of surrender in that, though they are both strong personalities.  Alternatively, it may be that she has so much Scorpio in her that Pluto square her Pluto/Sun represents a new level of mastery.  The North Node in addition was sextile her natal Mars (a new karmic relationship with a male).  Katy is a deep character, and it may be that she is currently lost in a new transformation.

That’s the end of my surmising.  Katy in particular has an intense relationship history, and I am not able to predict the course of this relationship, at least at this moment in time.  But as with everything, Katy will go deep.  Justin will be strong.  The name Justin means “just and righteous”.  Let’s hope the relationship adds kindness to their lives.

Aspects

A full programme this week, beginning with Chiron opposite Venus today, so that may bring up issues which need healing, especially for relationships.  It may be a case of “Now I am nice and settled, what is next for me to deal with?”.  The issues may be connected with one’s inner female, or one’s relationships.  It may be an artistic conundrum.

In the last hour of the day, relationship or money issues may continue to pre-occupy us, with a square between Jupiter and Venus.  You may be confronted with an awkward social situation.  Behaviour may be gauche or a little inappropriate, and that may have consequences.  You may be socializing when you don’t feel like it, or feel that you have to force jollity.  There will be a meaning to it – there always is!  Even if it is one remark which makes you think deeply, or helps you to realize what you don’t need.  Social non-conformists won’t care, but conformists may lament the lack of sticking to the rules.

On Tuesday (4th) there are three aspects to Mars, so expect fiery energy and people standing up for themselves, including you.  In the early hours Mars trines Neptune, which may bring vivid dreams but involving situations which resolve themselves, possibly at a higher level.  Later in the day under this aspect the peaceful spiritual warrior can flourish skilfully.  You can combine your passions with your spiritual path.  Meditation with movement is favoured, e.g. yoga, tai chi and qijong.  Peaceful demonstrations also chime well with this aspect.

At lunchtime, Mars moves into Sagittarius, a placement which can be a green light to new exercise regimes and sports initiatives, foreign transactions, and further education studies.  If you are seeking to pursue a line of life philosophy with gusto in order to test out if it actually works, then pick your mantra and go for it!  You’ll have the energy at least, though success is not absolutely guaranteed.  There could be an injection of energy and light to proceedings.

Late afternoon brings tension, however, for Uranus opposes Mars at that time, and tempers could flare.  This aspect can be disruptive, and incident-prone.  Try to minimize health and safety risks under this aspect, especially in connection with cars, dogs, machinery and electrical appliances.  You may find people extra excitable and calmness may be a valuable commodity. Brush up your meditational skills, and be a port in the storm.

If it seems that the tension doesn’t dissipate, it may at least change form, building up to the Full Moon at 13 degrees Taurus at lunchtime on Wednesday (5th).  Your emotions may be stirred and you may be motivated to try to resolve in an issue you care passionately about (Taurus and the Sun in opposite sign Scorpio are Fixed signs).  If you are of an artistic bent, you can plough this feeling into your creativity.

A more constructive Mars aspect finds us early afternoon on Thursday (6th), in the shape of Mars sextile Pluto, Pluto so you may have the energy to push through a pet project.  It is a dynamic and active aspect, and you may find yourself spontaneously clearing clutter.

Next up is an ingress late that evening, of Venus entering Scorpio.  Emotions and passions could be heightened.  This is a time when deep feelings can be experienced and expressed.  Her previous sojourn through Libra focussed on relationships, and on entering Scorpio the quality of relationship deepens.  You can take a relationship to the next level.  Venus will change sign again on 30th November, so make the most of the opportunity.

In the early hours of Saturday (8th) we have another ingress, that of Uranus re-entering Taurus whilst in retrograde motion.  A temporary sojourn, it may highlight unfinished business from the last seven years, which you may need to attend to.  There may have been some groundbreaking moves by yourself, or the Universe, which need to make the ground workable.  In order to proceed with some newer initiatives from Uranus’ recent entry into Gemini, you may need to finish other projects or lay the groundwork more smoothly.

A final test for relationships and/or money on that day, also in the early hours.  You may be wrestling with such questions, and sleep may be fitful as a result.  Pluto will square Venus and so there may be deeper issues to unravel in relationships.  Deep feeling issues may be preying on your mind.  These will require some psychological soul-searching for a true interpretation, and may spur on honest-as-you-can-be interpersonal communication.

The last aspect of the day and week, brings hope and some resolution, with the Sun trine the North Node, a kind influence.  It links karma with harmony and love, and reminds us that love is a force underlying a great deal of human interaction, e.g. standing up for one’s country, and protecting loved ones.  It also reminds us of the Hindu law of ahimsa, or harmlessness, required to neutralize and promote good karma (and Kamala).  The right side of Karma…

The week in bullet points:

  • Today – relationships need healing; awkward socializing
  • Tuesday – peaceful warriorship; then increased vigour; then extreme tension
  • Wednesday – emotional high tide
  • Thursday – constructive use of energies; emotions heightened
  • Saturday – unfinished business; deep relationship issues; karmic resolutions

Aspects for the week beginning 26 October 2025

Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly leaving Strictly

In one of the shocks of the week, Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly announced that this would be the last series of Strictly Come Dancing that they would take part in.  Although I like to vary my blog themes, this one does follow on from last week’s survey of Strictly.

Claudia’s Birth Chart

I wrote in 2014:

“Claudia Winkleman, new Co-Presenter

“No one can replace the unique contribution of long time main presenter Bruce Forsyth who has now retired from the post.  But Claudia Winkleman is a presenter of some talent, and is the daughter of Eve Pollard the journalist and fashion writer.  Claudia has been a regular presenter on this show, sometimes filling in for Bruce, and usually co-hosting the Sunday show with Tess Daly.  She is a Capricorn and favours wearing black, but I think the penchant for severe black sleeves is a fashion faux pas, possibly down to her Venus exactly Square Saturn natally.”

I would like to add that she gives the impression of having been an Egyptian queen in a past life, and the South Node in Leo in her chart supports that (according to my own Past Life Archetype system!).

She has various problems with her eyesight, and that shows up in her chart with Mars conjunct Chiron.

Claudia is lauded for her fashion sense, and part of that may come from her mother Eve Pollard, who is also a Capricorn by the way.

Life and Career

Claudia was born in Westminster, and her parents divorced when she was three.  She read Art History at Cambridge.  She began her television career in 2001, on a programme called “Central Weekend”, around the time of her Saturn Return.  In 2003, she was involved with the programme “Fame Academy”.  She then moved on to host the companion show to Strictly, “It Takes Two”.  She was also involved with presenting for Eurovision.

In 2010 Claudia became co-host of the Strictly Sunday night results show, and when Bruce Forsyth retired in 2014, she became Tess Daly’s co-host for the main show.  The same year, at Halloween, her daughter’s Halloween costume caught fire.  I remember the anguish of that time.  Neptune was square Claudia’s Neptune (turmoil) and Uranus was on her natal Mars in Aries (a shock involving fire).

The Traitors

In what seems a perfect fit, Claudia began hosting the new game show “The Traitors”, first screened on 29th November 2022.  Chiron was transiting her Mars at the time, but it was also the year of her Chiron Return, a cycle when the Inner Healer comes to the fore.  Maybe the role she plays in “The Traitors” represents something about her Inner Healer!  Jupiter was also sextile her natal Saturn.

The current run of Celebrity Traitors has so far been very entertaining, and drawn good viewing figures (11 million viewers per episode), with Alan Carr shooting one-liners every few minutes, and the Faithful having no clue as to the identities of the Traitors.

The Piano

Another standout show that Claudia has presented in recent years is “The Piano” which she began presenting in 2023.  This beautiful and inspiring programme features amateur pianists showing their talents in railway stations.  The programme first aired on 15 February 2023 (only a few months after “The Traitors”).  Pluto was trine her natal Saturn, her ruling planet, at the time, cementing her reputation as a safe pair of hands for an important new show.  Neptune was sextile her natal Sun, showing her compassionate side (she treated every entrant with tender loving care); and Jupiter was on her natal Chiron (another vehicle for her Inner Healer).

Tess Daly

“I find it challenging to sit still and just watch TV or a movie.  I’d like to say I’m going to make conscious efforts to slow down, but I like to spin all the plates at any given moment, and I don’t know how to do otherwise.  I must be quite annoying to live with.  On the plus side, I’ve got a fast metabolism, so I can eat as much chocolate as I like and.I was going to say I get away with it, but frankly that’s a lie.  I’m breathing in most of the time in those tight dresses on Strictly.”

~ Tess Daly

Tess Daly is even more woven into the fabric of Strictly than Claudia, having co-hosted with Bruce Forsyth from the very beginning.

Birth Chart

Tess has the Entrepreneur Archetype in her birth chart (Jupiter closely conjunct Uranus).  She is an Aries Sun sign (see the quote above!).   She has Jupiter on her South Node, so has brought in some good karma from past lives, and the Entrepreneur conjunction is at that point in her chart, so it is something she has honed in her past.  That she is so associated with the number one dancing show is no surprise when you see that she has Neptune, the planet of dance, closely trine her natal North Node (her karmic mission).

In her partnership with Claudia, her Sun is conjunct Claudia’s Chiron, always an important interlink between two souls.  That they can work together so well is shown by their Marses exactly trine.

Transits

Although much of the focus is on Claudia at the moment, e.g. rumours that she may host a chat show, the transits for Tess are more profound, so she may create a surprising new future for herself.

Neptune is trine Claudia’s Saturn (a heartwrenching decision; they promised to leave together); Chiron is square Claudia’s Sun (more heartwrenching); Jupiter is opposite Claudia’s Sun (a sense of freedom coming).

For Tess, Pluto is trine Tess’s Uranus (life-changing); Neptune is exactly conjunct Tess’s North Node (she may explore her spirituality), Uranus is trine Tess’s Jupiter (an Opportunity, and a surprise announcement); Chiron is on Tess’s Jupiter (a healing sense of freedom); and Jupiter is square Tess’s Venus (a change in her social life).

The bookies are already laying odds on what future duo may take their place, but in the meantime, we wish them well!

Aspects

Aspects begin on Tuesday (28th), with a trine between Mars and Jupiter.  This could bring an influx of new energy for whatever purpose.  This is a go ahead, spirited aspect which makes us feel we can achieve anything.  Enthusiasm and energy abound, and you may spring out of bed early full of the joys of the season.  Go with Gusto!

A timetable is required for Wednesday (29th):

7.26 a.m. – Mercury trines Neptune

11.02 a.m. – Mercury enters Sagittarius

This gives us a more cheery mental outlook coming up to Christmas (Is it too early to mention the C word?).  We may be still very much aware of the problems in the world, but we may, in our seasonal spirit of good will, be more supportive of charities and be more innovative in thinking of ways we can help.  Mercury in Sagittarius brings more lightheartedness and expansion.  There’s an opportunity to hone your sense of humour, sarcasm-free; quick-fire wisecracks could bring a laugh a minute.

19.05 Hrs – Mars trine Saturn

Despite being a connection between the two traditional astrological “malefics” this can be very constructive, in a non-dramatic way.  It does mean that hard work can pay off.  Think through what you want to achieve, and set about steadily allowing it to unfold, with some concrete or physical input or ignition on your part.  A trine not to be sniffed at.

19.36 Hrs – Uranus opposes Mercury

This could be tricky for communications, such as I.T.  Social media could be a bit fraught!  A spanner could enter into the works.  But if you are tuned into a higher mental wavelength, e.g. that of telepathy, you may achieve progress and flow.

A helpful note ends the run of aspects this week, with Mercury sextile Pluto on Thursday (30th).  You could make real progress under this aspect.  This aspect can produce profound thought and communication,  honouring the gravity of a situation if necessary, and enabling meaningful debate to occur.  If you have something important lined up, you may be successful in getting your point across.

The week in bullet points:

  • Tuesday – Gusto!
  • Wednesday – spirituality; good cheer; construction; glitches
  • Thursday – deep communication

Aspects for the week beginning 19 October 2025

Strictly Come Dancing – Part 2

This year’s Strictly Come Dancing has got off to a promising start, with some outstanding performances already, including number 10s.

Here is my next selection of four contestants for analysis:

Alex Kingston

Actress Alex has the Sun in Pisces, a sign of versatile talents.  Who can forget her depiction of Anna Wintour in The Devil Wears Prada interpretation for musicals week?  And her steamy rhumba last night, which earned a hug from head judge Shirley. The versatility is heightened and emphasized by her having 7 or 8 (depending on whether her Moon is in Libra or Virgo) of her 10 planets in Mutable signs. Her Sun is conjunct Jupiter, so she is an upbeat individual, with the Sun also trine Neptune, so there is a strong spirituality there too.  North Node trine the Sun may point to acting karma, e.g. having perfected her stage craft in previous lives.  Mars also conjunct the North Node gives her some warrior energy, which will have been useful in her role as Boudica in the 2003 biopic.  Her Inner Healer, Chiron, is in Pisces, the sign of dance.  Shirley has commented that she has one of the best frames in the competition, while Craig pointed out that she has command, control and power

Alex was born in Epsom, Surrey.  She began her life on screen in Grange Hill in 1980, beginning a career of varied roles.  She appeared as writer Francis Patridge in the film Carrington in 1995, a film set in the world of the Bloomsbury set.  She found success abroad in ER in America beginning in September 1997.  She has also taken part in Dr Who.  She has been married three times, the first marriage being to Ralph Fiennes.

Her transits this weekend:

Saturn trines her North Node (steady karma)

Jupiter trine her natal Jupiter (luck and success)

Mars square her natal Saturn (a bit of a tumble)

North Node trine her Neptune (the spirit of dance is with her)

She is in a strong position at this point in the game.

Her transits for the final of Strictly:

Jupiter will be trine her natal Sun/Jupiter conjunction in Pisces, the sign of dance

Mars will be sextile her natal Mercury, nimble moves.

The North Node will be on her Chiron in Pisces, the sign of dance

I would not count her out of the final.

Her professional partner is Johannes Radebe.  I wrote about him in 2019: “He has 6 Fire planets, and was born close to a New Moon in Taurus.  His dance credentials include the Sun closely trine Neptune.  He could do well in the dramatic dances such as the Paso Doble, with the Sun opposite closely Pluto.  He has Mercury trine Uranus, so could surprise us with ingenious choreography.”  His Saturn is sextile with her Sun, which is steadying; but his natal Pluto is square to her Venus, which may be transformative in an uncomfortable way.

His transits this weekend:

Chiron is square to his natal Mercury (he may be feeling the strain)

Saturn is square to his Uranus (he may be feeling the strain)

Things may not be easy for him at the moment.

His transits for the final:

Saturn is still square to his Uranus

So with Johannes having lacklustre transits throughout, that reduces Alex’s chances of success.  But he seemed quite chipper last night, so maybe he is coping well with this set of transits.

Lewis Cope

Lewis is another Sun in Pisces, with Mercury and Saturn also in that sign.  He has the Sun closely sextile Uranus, for added brilliance.  His Venus is unaspected, possibly giving him extra freedom of expression in his musicality.  His Mercury is exactly trine his North Node, so he may also have the Teacher Archetype.  Last night, the panel thought he was leading like a Pro.  Mars is closely trine his Jupiter, giving rise to energy combined with enthusiasm (Gusto!).  He is already proving a favourite, with Motsi declaring his Paso Doble last week as the dance of the week.  Astrology aside, I have to declare he is my favourite!

He was born in Hartlepool, and had 13 siblings!  Maybe that is connected with Mercury exactly trine the North Node – a skill and profusion in siblings!  He began his career as a child actor in the stage version of Billy Elliot.  His career as an actor includes a stint in Emmerdale.

His transits for this weekend:

This looks like an important time in Lewis’s life.

Pluto is sextile Lewis’ natal Pluto (self-empowerment)

Neptune trine his natal Pluto (psychological refining)

Neptune sextile his Uranus (coping with complexity)

Uranus opposite his natal Pluto (explosive at times)

Chiron square his Neptune (learning to be more sensitive)

Jupiter opposite his Neptune (his philosophy of life being re-shaped)

North Node on his Saturn (learning self-discipline)

His transits for the final:

Neptune Retrograde on his Sun (dancing challenge)

Uranus sextile his Sun (bringing out his intuition)

Saturn sextile his Neptune (shaping his spirituality)

Jupiter sextile his Chiron (a sign of success and healing)

This looks promising!

He is partnered with Katya Jones.  Katya is one of my favourite professionals, as she is so innovative, and often gets the “comic” contestant.  I wrote in 2018: “She is a solid dependable Taurean, with the nimbleness of a few planets sprinkled in Gemini.  She has a very positive mindset from Mercury conjunct Jupiter”.  She was born near Leningrad, and has danced since the age of six.

There could be some storms between them, with her Pluto square his Mars, his Pluto square her Nodal Axis,  their Mercuries exactly square, and her Mars trine his North Node!  All that fire was well expressed in the Paso Doble!

Her transits this weekend:

Pluto is trine her Venus (she will be feeling it all, deeply!)

Uranus is on her Venus (her ingenuity will be on full display!)

Uranus squares her Nodal Axis (she may experience the unexpected)

Her transits for the final:

Pluto will still be trine her Venus

Jupiter sextile her natal Sun (good for success)

Mars opposite her Chiron (the possibility of injury)

Mars on her Uranus (a prey to the unexpected)

Nodal Axis square her Jupiter (over-expectation)

North Node sextile her Neptune (spiritual equilibrium)

Looks as though there may be a last minute hitch, say around the semi-final?

I love this couple, but a Strictly season is a long time in a contestant’s life…

Vicky Pattison

Vicky has the determination of the Sun in Scorpio.  She also has Mercury and Pluto in Scorpio.  Sagittarius is also nicely covered, with Venus, Saturn and Uranus in that sign.  Her Sun is largely unaspected, so she is strongly individualistic.  Her Moon is in Virgo, so she attends to detail.  Mars exactly sextile her Uranus gives her an electrical quality to her energy, and Jupiter trine Saturn helps to balance her judgement.  Jupiter trine Uranus gives her the Entrepreneur Archetype, and she certainly gives all reality TV challenges a go!  I have watched her progress as a competitor, from Geordie Shore to winning I’m a Celebrity (2015), to being a finalist and the runner up on Masterchef. (2019).  I don’t think there is a reality TV programme she hasn’t taken part in!

Her transits this weekend:

Neptune  is on her North Node (emphasizes dance in her life)

Chiron is opposite her Mars (could be physically challenging, even incident-prone)

Chiron is trine her Uranus (she is able to employ the art of surprise)

Jupiter trines her Sun (an ingredient of success)

Jupiter squares her Mars (exaggeration, and gusto!)

Nodal Axis squares her Jupiter

It’s a set of swings and roundabouts…

Her transits for the final:

Neptune will be even closer to her North Node (could be promising)

Saturn will be square her Uranus (deeply challenging)

Jupiter will still be trine her Sun (very encouraging)

Jupiter will still be square her Mars (keeping up the fire!)

She could make it to the final, I feel, on those grounds.

She is partnered with Kai Widdrington.  His Saturn trines her natal Sun, so he will be able to help her self-discipline.  Their Chirons are squared, so their Inner Healers work differently – if they are able to balance them, that would be a plus.

I wrote in 2021: “He has his Sun in performing Leo conjunct Venus in fastidious Virgo, and is a superb impressionist.  He is intensely disciplined, with Mercury exactly opposite Saturn, and he also has a complex conjunction of Uranus and Neptune in Capricorn, common to those born in his year (1995).”

His transits last night:

Uranus square his natal Venus (an unusual personal experience)

That seems a bit sparse for a major event.  But there will be a lot going on in his life at the end of the season.

His transits for the final:

Uranus will be  opposite  his natal Pluto (big changes)

Uranus trines his natal Chiron (the power of surprise and healing)

Chiron squares his natal Neptune (complexity to deal with)

Jupiter will be opposite his Neptune (faith and inspiration)

Jupiter will be sextile his natal Mercury (good for communication)

Jupiter will be trine his natal Saturn (good judgement and execution)

Whether or not he will still be in the competition, things look a lot more interesting near Christmas, for him.

They seem to have good chances, these two.

George Clarke

Not to be confused with the older Architect, George has burst on the scene (to those of us who had not heard of him) and made a great impression on the dance floor.  He is a social media personality, YouTuber and podcast host, for the uninitiated.  .He is not to be underestimated, with an exact conjunction of the Sun and Pluto in Sagittarius.  He also has Chiron in that sign.  Like Vicky, he has an electrical quality to his energy, with Mars conjunct Uranus.  His musicality lies in having Venus in Libra, but Mars is also conjunct Neptune which enables him to produce movement allied with spirituality, almost like a meditation.  With Mars on the South Node, he may have been a warrior in a past life.  He is quoted as saying: “Never thought I’d say this… but I’m doing Strictly! Honestly, I’ve got no idea what I’m doing but I’m excited to get stuck in… and potentially fall over a fair bit.”

His transits last night:

He has Pluto on his Neptune

He has Chiron on his Jupiter

Both are transformative transits, and intense.

His transits for the final:

Pluto will be trine his Neptune (powerful for dance)

North Node will be sextile with his Saturn

If he gets through to the final, he could put in some powerful performances.

He is partnered with newcomer Alexis Warr.  She is strongly Geminian to his Sagittarian, opposites and complements.  Her Venus is trine his Uranus, which may point to a great deal of magnetism between them.  Her Pluto is conjunct his Sun/Pluto conjunction, psychologically powerful.  They may understand each other on a deep level.  Her Neptune trines his Mars, refining his movement allied with spirituality further.

Her transits last night:

Saturn is trine her North Node (an opportunity to prove her worth)

Jupiter is sextile her Jupiter and Saturn (successful execution)

Nodal Axis is square to her Sun (personal karmic challenges)

Her transits for the final:

Chiron will be sextile her natal Mars (brilliant moves)

Saturn will still be trine her North Node

Saturn will also be sextile her natal Jupiter (her self-discipline will be heightened)

The Nodal Axis will square both her Venus and Pluto (a hefty challenge for her, but that doesn’t rule her out)

I see these two, also, as being good contenders.

If I had to choose out of these four who has the best transits for the final, I would go for Vicky as a dark horse.  However, I think all four of these couples will be strong in the contest.

I will be back in a few weeks with another selection of four.  Keep viewing!

Aspects

We have an aspect for every day this week.  That’s Neat!

Mercury trine the North Node occurs today.  This can help ensure that information and communications are accurate and karmically relevant.  You should be able to experience that on a mental or spiritual level.  It will contribute to progress generally, especially when preparing your week’s work, studies and communicative ventures.

Tomorrow (Monday 20th) Mercury conjoins with Mars in the 19th degree of Scorpio, and you may wake early, overthinking things.  For the day, you may feel highly energized, and you may get through some tasks efficiently.  You or those around you may be slightly irritable, however, and if so – you know why!  There may be a loosened tongue, sharp words, or a war of words.  On the more high functioning end of this conjunction, you could write or say something witty, such as a critical review.

The aspect for Tuesday (21st) is a New Moon in Libra at 28 degrees of that sign.  Some of the artistic, musical and relationship issues you have been grappling with could receive new impetus and a more confident direction.  Where there has been struggle, there could be more harmony.  Where there has been vacillation, there may be more balance.  But whether or not you are conscious of beneficial changes or shifts in these matters, they may still be progressing and bear fruit over the next month.  Relationships, too, may be assisted.

So what do we have on the menu for Wednesday (22nd)?  Neptune will be retreating back to its own sign Pisces for a spell, before it takes up full residence in Aries.  There may be t’s to cross and I’s to dot before you complete your own mission for Neptune in Pisces.  Bear in mind the House it occupies, if you know it.  Some issues around this were: “Neptune in Pisces was on home territory: confusion, complexity and illusion – it brought the rise of A.I.  That is something difficult to negotiate, but which seems bound for our attention and mastery, even those of us who are not technologically minded.”  As a collective, we haven’t yet grappled with what we are going to do with A.I.

Thursday (23rd) ushers the Sun into Scorpio.  Now we need to confront the deeper issues in life (such as how to actively go about achieving peace and balance in our society and world) and find more lasting solutions which treat the causes and not just the symptoms of a situation.  For this we need more insight, resolve and conviction, qualities of this sign.

Friday (24th) has two aspects, the first around lunchtime which may upset the applecart: Pluto square to the Sun which is a deep soul-searching aspect.  It is the sort of aspect which can be looked upon as a gamechanger, or watershed.  So if you are in integrity, you may be able to influence what side the coin lands on.  In recent years, this aspect has brought about political turmoil in the U.K. when it occurs, so focus may be closer to home than Ukraine or the Middle East.  In your own life, continue to seek positive avenues for yourself, and remove yourself from drama.

The other aspect that day, occurring mid-afternoon, is Mercury trine Jupiter, which could bring you back to sanity and optimism, though Pluto square the Sun can be a heavy cloud.  This aspect can bring good news, which would be welcome at any time.  It can bring productivity, and good conversation.  Mercury trine Jupiter expands our minds and philosophies.  This is an upbeat vibe mentally, and can bring opportunities.  It is also helpful for writing projects and studying, so you may make progress on that novel you’re writing, for instance!  [btw, I am making progress on Volume III of my trilogy “The Quiet Office”].

Finally, another constructive trine occurs on Saturday (25th), this time between Mercury and Saturn.  This combines mental work with practicality, and brings focus and realism to the mental activities.  So it is a good day for making plans.  Serious conversations can also safely take place under this aspect.

Over these last two days, there is a Grand  Water Trine between Mercury in Scorpio, Saturn in Pisces and Jupiter in Cancer at the 24th/25th degree, if that is significant for you. That vibration may help you navigate the Sun/Pluto challenge successfully.

The week in bullet points:

  • Today – karmic information
  • Tomorrow – brisk action
  • Tuesday – harmony
  • Wednesday – dealing with illusion
  • Thursday – dealing with deeper issues
  • Friday – soul searching; good news
  • Saturday – making plans

Aspects for the week beginning 12 October 2025

Libran Archetypes

I am writing about the Libran Archetypes today, before the month of Libra is out!  This is the eighth of my series specifically on astrological Archetypes.  It is time to embrace the potential of this sign, turning the spotlight on its Archetypes.

A few words about Librans: Like Taureans and Pisceans, they possess a cornucopia of talents, which can encompass many Archetypes.  So I will have to concentrate my mind on just a few.  The strengths of this sign are art, music, design and relationships.

So, following, are some thoughts I highlighted back in my 2015 blog, and then some examples of Libra and its Archetypes, including from history:

“Knight

The knight is associated with the medieval codes of romance, courtly love, courtly manners and chivalry, but also with its polarity Aries through warriorship.  The term “gallantry” comes from the Baroque ideal of refined elegance.

Princess

The Princess Archetype is the Queen (Leo Archetype) in waiting, the desire for emotional power but with the lack of responsibility.  It is carefree and youthful.  Often a young girl will play Princess to a certain type of father, who is willing to play the game of pampering.  It can be a harmless Archetype, but is sometimes seen as a diva.  It can be a necessary stage of development for a female in trying to establish her own power.  In some ways it is the female counterpart of the Knight, in its pleasantries, and is related to the Damsel Archetype.

Advocate

Librans are well known for their love of justice and fairness.

Advocate – Traditional

Traditionally, the Advocate is squarely Libran, associated with the law profession and promoting equality.  In her “Archetype Cards” Caroline Myss defines it embodying “a lifelong devotion to championing the rights of others and a passion to transform social injustices.”

Advocate – Modern (with Aquarius)

In her book “Archetypes” Caroline Myss introduces new forms of Archetypes for the modern world.  For the Advocate, she progresses the picture:

“The Advocate may be the most unfamiliar archetype among our family of ten.  That’s because this is a relatively recent addition to the cosmic theatre, having emerged as a recognized pattern of power with the rise of civil consciousness and social action in the 1960s”

Her final thought is: “There has never been a time in history so primed for the talents of true Advocates.  Listen to your heart, find your cause, and commit to it.”

Famous Examples: John Lennon, Sun in Libra, Advocate of Peace, with Ascendant in Aries the Action Hero, partnered by Yoko Ono, Sun in Aquarius, the Social Activist.

Sting and Bob Geldof, Librans born in the same week of the same year, are Advocates for a number of causes.

Married couple Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas share a birthday in Libra, and have hosted a Nobel Peace Prize concert together.  He has been involved in supporting the causes of human rights, nuclear disarmament and gun control (specifically prompted by the death of John Lennon).

Diplomat

The Diplomat is related to the Mediator Archetype.  In my 2010 article which appeared as a guest blog on Joyce Mason’s astrological blog site, I identified an Archetype for South Node in Libra for a past life:

My South Node in Libra Past Life Archetype card reads:

‘Venus conjunct South Node

Archetype: The Diplomat
Place: Ancient Greece
Time: 421 BC

My name is Demis. I live in Corinth and try to smooth relations between  Athens and Sparta. I can see both their qualities and greatness and feel that I can bring them together.  There are plenty of people practising the art of war, but not enough cultivating the art of peace.  I love justice, too, having been educated in philosophy and law and hope one day that all people will accept the balance it brings. I am proud, too, of the artistic achievements of my country, which I think are outstanding. For beauty is truth and truth beauty, as you can see on this urn that I have before me. Maybe one day a poet will capture that essence.’

Fashionista

Another modern Archetype pointed out by Caroline Myss is “The Fashionista”:

“If you are a modern-day Fashionista you were formed out of two opposing forces.  One is the feminist movement of the 1960s and 1970s, which gave you an appetite for freedom of expression and appreciation for your body.  The other is the rise of the modelling and cosmetics industries and the fashion press…”

Under her Checklist for the Fashionista she offers the mantra “I consider my life my personal fashion statement.”

Famous Examples: Gok Wan, Style Guru – Though he is a meticulous Virgo Sun Sign, he has a forensic exact conjunction of Mercury and Pluto in Libra.

Maria Bueno, who in the 1960s wore groundbreaking tennis outfits and was the last word in elegance; Serena Williams is also Libran, and has a fashion house.

Gary and Martin Kemp, Libran brothers, leaders in the New Romantic(s) movement of musical style in their band “Spandau Ballet”.  Librans are collaborators, so where you have two Librans together, there can be a good partnership.”

Other Archetypes:

The Artist

Taurus and Libra are both ruled by the artistic planet Venus.  As an earth sign, Taurus inclines towards pottery and sculpture, while as an Air sign Libra inclines towards design, including interior design, harmony and fashion.

The Musician

Similarly, Taurus and Libra are both ruled by the musical planet Venus.  Both signs are associated with singing and playing musical instruments, while as an Air sign Libra has a particular talent for composition.

The Beautician

Beauty is the province of Libra, and while the renowned beautician and make-up artist Bobbi Brown is not Libra, she does have Venus, the planet that represents beauty, exactly conjunct her natal Sun.  In a recent interview, she was asked “What is your earliest memory?”, to which she replied:Watching my mother put on makeup.  I was in awe of her beauty and glamour.  She was only 21 when I was born and quite stunning.”

Historical/more in-depth Examples

The Musicians

Bob Geldof (b.5/10/1951, 14.20 Hrs, Dublin)

Sir Bob Geldof is a true blue Libran (blue is the colour for Libra btw).  He has Mercury/Saturn/Sun/Neptune and the Midheaven, in Libra.  I wrote in 2014:

“Sir Bob is both an optimist (Moon exactly trine Jupiter) and a realist (Mercury exactly conjunct Saturn).  He has the power to change the world in profound ways (Pluto closely trine his Ascendant.  He is an activist (Mars sextile closely his Midheaven/Careerpoint, which bisects a trine between Mars and his Chiron).  He has a karmic mission as a humanitarian (Moon closely square his Nodal Axis).  I didn’t like his anthem for the workers (with the Boomtown Rats) “I Don’t like Mondays”, but I do admire his drive to help.  In his autobiography “Is That It?” he wrote about lying in bed anguishing about Africa, and being presented with a vision of a tunnel and what he must do appearing at the end, which culminated in his work on Live Aid.”

Sting (b.5210/1951, 1.30 a.m., Wallsend)

Sting has Saturn/Sun, Neptune/Moon in Libra.

In the same article, I wrote about Sting:

“Sir Bob Geldof and Sting are born only three days apart, in the same year (1951), with their Suns in Libra.  So some of the same impulses motivate them  both.  Sir Bob has the global sign Sagittarius rising, and Sting  is a showman, with Leo rising.  Despite a possible air of self-indulgence,  Sting does have a profound thinking conjunction of Pluto and the Part of Fortune in his 1st House.”

The Artist

Caravaggio (29/9/1571 – 18/7/1610)

Caravaggio was an outstanding painter, but he only had the Sun in Libra.  More telling is his conjunction of Mercury and Saturn in Scorpio, showing his tempestuous nature, but also depicting the art technique he was particularly known for: chiaroscuro (the contrast of light and shade).  It can be argued that this represents a balance, as in Libra.  But I feel it more truly reflects the Scorpio dramatisation.  His art was sensitive (Venus exactly square Neptune) and his mind brilliant (Mercury closely sextile Uranus).

The Diplomat

Lord Peter Ricketts (b 30/9/1952)

Peter Ricketts was a British senior diplomat and is a life peer.  He has been in the House of Lords since 2016.  He was a part of the Intelligence Committee under Tony Blair’s prime ministership, and a national security adviser under David Cameron.  He has four planets in Libra: Sun, Mercury, Saturn and Neptune.  He has an unaspected Venus, which can sometimes result in a heightened freedom to express its qualities, in this case diplomacy.

You may notice that with your Libran family, friends and acquaintances, some of them have more than one of these Archetypes.  While the Sun is in Libra (until 23rd October), you can connect with your own Libran Archetypes, or Venusian qualities if you do not have any Libran planets, and enable them to blossom.  If you are a Libran, make the most of those talents!

Aspects

Tomorrow (Monday 13th), Venus enters Libra; Venus as its ruler is very comfortable in Libra, one of her two signs. If you have design skills in art or music, they could be heightened now, and in the near future.  At the very least, polish up your vocal skills.  She is in residence here until 6th November.

A timetable is needed for Tuesday (14th):

1.16 a.m. – Neptune opposite Venus

If you find yourself wakeful in the early hours, you can put it down to Neptune opposing Venus.  Thoughts may be confused in the night, and you may wonder if  you are asleep, awake or in the hypnogogic state between.  The day will demand that you  sort out your feelings, the real from the illusion, and especially in relationships.  In politics, there may be bluffs and double bluffs.  In relationships, more compassion is needed, and in finance more honesty.  Fine words may butter no parsnips.

2.54 a.m. Pluto goes Direct

Pluto is Stationary prior to turning Direct, in the very early hours of the morning.  This may ease the path a little, and bring relief that the deep issues are being tackled.  We may feel we are coming through a transition, or at least on a more salubrious path.  The ruminations of the entire retrograde period (since 4th May) bear fruit.  Breakthroughs can take place at this juncture, e.g. reunions where perhaps people have not been speaking to each other.

14.10 Hrs – Venus trine Uranus

Making it through to lunchtime, you may find a fresh and sparkling energy. The aspect may set you up with exciting meetings, or bring encounters of the illuminating kind.  In the field of the Arts, it can bring originality and surprise, e.g. to a performance of music.  Ideas for assisting the problems in our society may also crop up, such as community-based solutions.

23.45 Hrs – Venus trine Pluto

Late evening, relationships can come on to a deeper but firmer footing.  It is an aspect which is helpful for money and love.  Pluto settles your deepest feelings into a more comfortable psychological context.  This aspect helps us through changes and transformations on a human level.  It is about deep love, deep awareness of your relationship with money, and profound artistry.

Venus in Libra, Uranus in Gemini, and Pluto in Aquarius form an Air Grand Trine.  This is especially beneficial for communications and connecting the dots generally.

On Friday (17th) Jupiter squares the Sun, an aspect which exaggerates everything it comes into contact with.  There is also a joyful, humorous side of Sun square Jupiter, so some laughter-yoga from time to time during the day would not go amiss!  It could be a fun day, but be aware of carelessness or overreaching goals.

The week in bullet points:

  • Monday – artistic and musical skills to the fore
  • Tuesday – confused feelings; psychological clarification; exciting meetings; deep feelings; connecting the dots
  • Friday – jollity, both wise and unwise

Aspects for the week beginning 5 October 2025

Jane Goodall (1934 – 2025)

“…animals are “far more aware and intelligent than we ever imagined and, despite having been bred as domestic slaves, they are individual beings in their own right. As such, they deserve our respect. And our help. Who will plead for them if we are silent?”

~ Jane Goodall (referring to farm animals)

The celebrated primatologist and anthropologist Jane Goodall died on Wednesday at the ripe old age of 91.  She seems to have come into this lifetime intent with purpose, and achieved an amazing set of achievements throughout her long life, being on a lecture tour at the very end of her life.

Birth Chart

Such a remarkable lady would be likely to have a remarkable birth chart, and she has.  The pioneering, courage, and adventurousness just stack up in her chart.

Her Sun was in Aries (courage, The Pioneer and Warrior Archetypes), bold and fearless.  In addition, Aries has an unmistakeable primal quality, which obviously she possessed in order to do the empathetic work with the chimpanzees.

The Sun was opposite Jupiter in her chart – adventurousness, and sextile the North Node (she was master of her own destiny).  Her Moon was in Sagittarius, again adventurousness.  The Moon was conjunct her Ascendant in Sagittarius, on the 12th House side: depicting living out in the wilds.

Venus was in Aquarius when she was born and conjunct Saturn, indicating a lone existence (human-wise), although she was married twice, her first marriage producing a son.  Mars was in Aries, again The Warrior – she knew how to look after herself.  Mars was opposite Jupiter – trusting in adventure, and exactly sextile the North Node, again accentuating the Pioneer and Warrior.

Jupiter was trine Saturn in her chart, balanced judgement which was much needed in the life she led.  She had Uranus square Pluto – and so was an Agent for Change.

Life and Career

Jane was born in Hampstead; her father was a businessman, and her mother was a novelist.  She attended school in Poole, Dorset.  She was given a stuffed toy chimpanzee when she was a child by her father: it must have been her animal totem!

On her 23rd birthday in 1957, she travelled to Kenya, to stay at the farm of a friend.  The planets really came out for her that day, as you would expect from such a life-changing event: Pluto was opposite her natal Venus, a big change in her personal circumstances; Uranus was trine her natal Moon (ditto); Chiron was sextile her ruling planet Mars, and crucially for her destiny, transiting her natal North Node; Saturn was trine her natal Sun; and the North Node (again) trine her natal Sun.

She worked as a secretary and made a telephone call to the famous archaeologist and palaeontologist Louis Leakey.  I am always fascinated by how the right people appear at the right time in the lives of others, and it’s interesting to note that Jane and Louis’ Suns were exactly trine, one of the best indicators of being able to work together.  Louis at that time was looking for a chimpanzee researcher, and employed her ostensibly as a secretary.  He sent her first to Tanzania, and then to London to study primates.  On 14th July 1960 he sent her to Gombe Stream National Park to study the primates there, where her true work of observation was to begin.  At the time it was deemed necessary to have her mother with her, as this work was not considered the province of a female.  In this, Jane was a pioneer.  The Moon on her Sagittarian Ascendant both illustrates the role of her mother in encouraging her, and the far flung nature of her work.

After two years, Leakey sent Goodall to Newnham College, Cambridge University, where she read natural sciences.  She then  enrolled at Darwin College for a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Ethology.  Ethology deals in the welfare of animals and their survival.  In her thesis, she drew upon her years observing chimpanzees in the wild.

She discovered many ways in which chimpanzees were like humans, from their emotional range, to their capacity for toolmaking and warriorship, as well as community life.  She established that they were meat eaters, contrary to the established thinking that they were vegetarian.  She turned the prevailing male-dominated style of research on its head, giving the chimpanzees names instead of numbers, making her prey to charges of anthropomorphism.  This did, of course, increase the bond she developed with the chimpanzees.

By 1977, she was turning her efforts towards the habitat of the animals, and later to the problem of climate change.  She wrote a book in 1999 entitled “Reason for Hope” in which she recounted a spiritual experience she had in Notre Dame (“And so I must believe in a guiding power in the universe”).

“That afternoon, it had been as though an unseen hand had drawn back a curtain and, for the briefest moment, I had seen through such a window. In a flash of “outsight” I had known timelessness and quiet ecstasy, sensed a truth of which mainstream science is merely a small fraction. And I knew that the revelation would be with me for the rest of my life, imperfectly remembered yet always within. A source of strength on which I could draw when life seemed harsh or cruel or desperate.”

In 2015, she endorsed the parliamentary candidacy of Carolyn Lucas, in the Green Party.  In 2022 she was on the board of the Nonhuman Rights Project, a role which she continued until her death.  She was a staunch advocate for vegetarianism:

“I stopped eating meat some 50 years ago when I looked at the pork chop on my plate and thought: this represents fear, pain, death”.

Death

Jane had been conducting a speaking tour in America, but died of natural causes this week.  All of these transits include Chiron, the Inner Healer: Pluto trine natal Chiron, Neptune sextile natal Chiron, Uranus on her Chiron in her 6th House, Chiron on her Uranus in 5th House, and Chiron sextile her natal Saturn in 3rd House – some resolution was going on in her life.  In addition, Jupiter was on her natal Pluto in 8th House – clearly a good death, a good life and a good name.

“My next great adventure, aged 90, is going to be dying. There’s either nothing or something. If there’s nothing there’s nothing, that’s it. If there’s something I can’t think of a greater adventure than finding out what it is. I happen to think there is something because of the experiences I’ve had, because of experiences other people have had. Very powerful ones.”

~ Jane Goodall

“She gave up doing what she loved – spending time with her beloved chimpanzees – to tirelessly travel the world and share her passion with everyone she met.”

~ Professor Cat Hobaiter

Aspects

We start tomorrow (Monday 6th October) with an ingress: that of Mercury going into Scorpio.  This implies that collectively, we will look into matters more deeply and forensically.  In your own personal life, you will have more courage to look at what really matters, and to worry less about how things appear to others.

In the early hours of Tuesday (7th) there will be a Full Moon at 14 degrees Aries.  You may feel Some emotional tension building on Monday evening, with possible insomnia in the early hours of Tuesday, especially if you are susceptible to the Moon’s phases.  The Full Moon opposes the Sun in Libra.  This is about balancing your own needs and that of the other, and bringing the two into balance.

Late lunchtime on the same day, there will be another source of tension, from a square between Pluto and Mercury.  Profound journeys may be undertaken, too.  There may be a setback or a reversal, so make sure your actions are solid if you have a conflict to resolve in your own life.  Perhaps there is a twist in the plot.  You may need extra ‘me time’ in order to separate yourself from worried pronouncements about the state of the world.  If you do engage in chatter, choose a worthwhile subject.

In contrast, we move to the sublime on Wednesday (8th) with a gorgeous sextile between Venus and Jupiter.  It’s one of the brightest aspects of the year.  This bodes well for any celebrations or parties.  It’s conducive to socializing, and romancing.  This sextile combines luck and love.  Enjoy the highlight of the week!

Saturday (11th) at 11:11 (numerologically sacred to many), Saturn opposes Venus.  This could be emotionally deflating (e.g. a prominent, well-loved public figure could pass after a long and worthwhile life). It is time to value those around you, and to renew bonds of love and loyalty.  If you are into numerology, the number 11 could sustain you.

The week in bullet points:

  • Tomorrow – look more deeply
  • Tuesday – emotional high tide; look every more deeply
  • Wednesday – time to party
  • Saturday – a sober note…but lucky 11 for some
