Aspects for the week beginning 1 March 2026

Neil Sedaka (1939 – 2026)

“When we ran out of lyrics we’d use a doo-bee-doo”

~ Neil Sedaka

Singer, Songwriter and Pianist Neil Sedaka died suddenly on Thursday, at the age of 86.  He was a big part of the music scene when I was a young girl, his heyday being between 1957 and 1965.  I thought of his tunes as upbeat and melodious, but of course the explosion of the Beatles ushered in a whole new genre of exciting music in that period.

Birth Chart

The Sun in Pisces gave Neil Sedaka the sensitivity to write about emotional life, the stuff of pop music all along, but thoughtfully so.  Neptune exactly opposite his Sun brought an even more finely honed sensitivity. The melodies he created were uplifting, reflecting his natal Sun conjunct Jupiter.  What brings up the Songwriter Archetype is Mercury exactly sextile Venus (I have many examples, in my files!): a sublime blending of music (Venus) and words (Mercury).  Venus is also highlighted by being closely square to the Nodal Axis, indicating a karmic path in music.  Jupiter closely sextile Uranus was one of the keys to his success, a winning formula.

Life and Career

Neil Sedaka was born in Brooklyn.  His father was Lebanese Jewish.  A child prodigy, his teacher recommended piano classes, and his mother went out of her way to obtain them for him, buying an upright piano.  He then won a scholarship to the Juillard School of Music, at the age of 9.  His mother hoped he would be a classical pianist, and he mastered that particular art, but gradually developed a fondness for pop music.  From the age of 13, he was writing songs with his neighbour Howard Greenfield.

While at school at Abraham Lincoln High School, he formed a doo-wop band called the Linc-Tones (names after the school), which was later re-named the Tokens.  He left school at 17.  He wrote “Stupid Cupid” for Connie Francis in 1958, but his first recordings failed to do well for himself.  So he began an intensive study of the three biggest hits of the time, looking at their song structure, chord progressions, lyrics, and harmonies, and the result was “Oh Carol” in 1959, inspired by Carole King who had been his girlfriend in high school.  This gave him his first domestic top ten hit.  In 1960 he wrote “Calendar Girl”, for which he earned a five figure royalty cheque, and this was followed by “Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen” in 1961.

The poignant “Breaking Up is Hard to Do” of 1962 was a song many could relate to:

They say that breaking up is hard to do
Now I know, I know that it’s true
Don’t say that this is the end
Instead of breaking up I wish we were making up again

But in the middle of all this creative output, and in the year of the heartbreak song, he married Leba Strassberg; they had two children together, and much later on, grandchildren.

He was conscious that his genre of music was usurped by the Beatles and what came after, and lamented the effect of the Beatles on his recording career:

“Between 1963 and 1975, I worked very little. The Beatles had come to New York and changed music – all the solo singers were out of work”

When his career appeared to fizzle out in the mid-1960s, he decided to move to the United Kingdom, and ended his musical partnership with Greenfield, writing “Our Last Song Together”, another beautiful and heart-wrenching tune:

This will be our last song together
Words will only make us cry
This will be our last song together
There’s no other way to say good-bye

He eventually found a new songwriting partner in Phil Cody.

A revival of his fortunes took place in the 1970s, including more songwriting for others, such as (Is this the Way to) “Amarillo” in 1971 for Tony Christie, and later reprised for Comic Relief with Peter Kay.  I watched the video this morning.  It did make me smile! ;-}  If you’re having a blue day, do look it up.

This was followed in 1972 by my personal favourite, the haunting “Solitaire”, sung so exquisitely:

And solitaire is the only game in town
And every road that takes him
Takes him down
While life goes on around him everywhere
He’s playing solitaire

“Solitaire” was the first collaboration between Sedaka and Phil Cody.

“Love will Keep us Together” in 1973 had been written earlier with Howard Greenfield, and was a huge success, also recorded by other artists.

One of his most uplifting songs, “Laughter in the Rain” came in 1974:

Ooh, I hear laughter in the rain
Walking hand in hand with the one I love
Ooh, how I love the rainy days
And the happy way I feel inside

His songwriting talent had not gone anywhere!  They are all good classic songs, which must have been played over and over and earned royalties over the years, and played in karaoke bars throughout the world!

I have enjoyed re-visiting his body of work, a welcome distraction from the wars raging.  Long live Love, the staple material of the pop world!

“You do have to give up your privacy. But the good thing is that you can get a table in a restaurant or a seat at the theatre.”

~ Neil Sedaka

Aspects

Two wars broke out last week around the Mars-Uranus square (about which I had written “There may be some escalation of aggression in the current wars.”)  Afghanistan and Pakistan were the first to engage in hostilities, and it seems the U.S. and Israel could not resist the call of the Mars-Uranus square, following suit very soon after.

Meanwhile, our aspect journey begins on Tuesday (3rd March), when we first encounter an ingress (not an aspect, technically), which is Mars moving into Pisces.  Mars transits from the more strident sign of Aquarius.  While Aquarius is humanitarian, and looks after the underdog, Pisces is even more compassionate, and very empathetic.  Mars represents our use of energy, and so it may not be so direct, but it will be more in touch with emotional needs (ours, or others).  In charitable terms, it is a good time to put your money where your mouth is.

Late morning, we have a Lunar Eclipse at 12 degrees Virgo, so tensions may still be heightened.  This may ramp up the emotional tension, plus a desire towards perfectionism and practicality, at the same time as honouring spiritual ideals represented by the opposing Sun in Pisces.  Work and service are also principles of this polarity of signs. That may be a wake-up call.  Participants in the Middle East may be registering some of the implications of the explosiveness of actions undertaken last week.  It is worth bearing in mind the timeline which is often given for eclipses, which can result in effects up to six months in duration.  At this point in time, no one, not even the most experienced of pundits, can predict how long the war against Iran will last and what regime will take the place of Ali Khamenei’s reign of terror.

Wednesday (4th) brings us a sextile between Venus and Uranus.  Venus in harmony with Uranus is very social and may produce some interesting outward manifestations.  Chance meetings are possible and can be strange or seem random.  Venus sextile Uranus is on the pleasantly uplifting side of the equation, and can bring reunions, even if just on your mobile phone or online.  The three S’s come to mind: spontaneity, synchronicity and serendipity.

It is followed up the next day Thursday (5th) by another upbeat aspect, that of the Sun trine Jupiter.  That’s a joyful energy.  For some that might mean a lucky break!  Not everyone can win the lottery, but it’s all good and comes on the heels of Uranus starting to show its best side.  This is a happy-go-lucky aspect where circumstances allow.  It may provide a day of good cheer, adventure, golden opportunity and looking ahead to the future with optimism.  If you are visiting friends, the occasion could be a barrel of laughs.

A change of feeling-tone awaits us on Friday (6th) when Venus enters Aries, which sets up bolder feelings to express and contend with.  Venus is not entirely comfortable in Aries and therefore Venusian types (Taureans and Librans) may feel that they are being pushed to a faster pace of life than they are comfortable with.  There is a warmer and more demonstrative feel about Venus though while she is in Aries, so hugs may be more forthcoming.  Other signs may feel more comfy and cosy with this placement, and make good connections.  Let us hope warmongers are not emboldened!

Two conjunctions occur late morning on the final day of the week, Saturday (7th), the first being the Sun conjunct Mercury at 16 degrees Pisces, which may cause you to become more aware of deeper issues, such as the compassionate perspective of things.  The Sun and Mercury together may come up with some insightful solutions, rekindling hope and allowing glimpses of light at the end of tunnels.

Finally, we have Venus conjunct Neptune at the first degree of Aries.  You could be feeling very nostalgic!  It could be a serene, highly spiritual and artistically inspired conjunction, full of unconditional love.  This conjunction can express the best of the divine feminine.  A warm but possibly enigmatic finale to the week.  A true heart will attract the best of this conjunction.

The week in bullet points:

  • Tuesday – some gentler energy; turning point
  • Wednesday – exciting meetings
  • Thursday – joy abounding
  • Friday – bolder feelings
  • Saturday – sparkling focus; unconditional love

Aspects for the week beginning 22 February 2026

Jesse Jackson (1941 – 2026)

Jackson’s presence presents the American Republic with questions and choices it has spent all hits history until this hour trying to avoid…And nothing will ever again be what it was before.”

~ James Baldwin, 1984

Civil rights activist Jesse Jackson died this week, at the age of 84.  He was a passionate, charismatic and assiduous promoter of his cause.  He was the natural successor to Martin Luther King, and he helped pave the way for Barack Obama to become the first black American President.  He was regarded as one of the most influential activists of his time.

Birth Chart

Jesse had the Sun in Libra: he was certainly passionate about Justice, and he strove for peace in various ways throughout his life.

Straight away on looking at his birth chart (with a birthtime and Ascendant) three Archetypes pop up.  The first is The Firebrand, mentioned in my Archetype series under Scorpio.  He had his Midheaven (Careerpoint) in Scorpio.  He had his Sun opposite Mars, indicating the Warrior Archetype.  The Firebrand is a spin-off variety of the Warrior.  His speeches had the conviction of fire and brimstone.

He had the courage of the Warrior, and with Mars trine Chiron he was able to channel healing energy:

“He was very brave and I have always tried to show a little of that courage.  He taught me the importance of having principles and sticking to them.”

~ Diane Abbott

The second Archetype is, as an ordained Baptist minister, the Religious figure: he had the Sun trine Jupiter (religion), Jupiter exactly square his Nodal Axis (religion was part of his karmic mission and challenge), and the Sun in the 9th House of Religion.  With Neptune trine the Ascendant, on the 9th House side of the cusp, he was able to combine Religion with Spirituality.

The third Archetype is the Orator, as depicted by his Mercury at the Midheaven in his 10th House of Work in the World.  Even as a young man, he was part of a competitive public-speaking team, which was important enough for him to give up a sporting opportunity.  Ewen MacAskill observes in the Guardian obituary that: “One of his strengths lay in his ability to deliver rousing speeches in the rhetorical style of southern preachers”

He had a sensitive and spiritual Moon trine Neptune/North Node: a sensitivity and spiritual leadership as part of his karmic mission, delivering power to the people.  The Moon was also loosely conjunct his I.C. in 4th House – the fundamental power of his emotion evoked in his speeches.  Mercury square Pluto/Chiron ensured that the speeches had the depth and passion of fire and brimstone.

Venus exactly sextile Neptune showed that he was idealistic in relationships, though he may have regretted an affair later in life, whereby he fathered a sixth child out of wedlock, despite an enduring marriage (he married early in life, aged 21).  Saturn conjunct Uranus in his chart was iconoclastic, bringing personal earthquakes in his life (none more so than the assassination of Martine Luther King).

He had Saturn exactly trine Neptune – and so he was able to reconcile these two planets,  which had in the same week as his death, come into a momentous conjunction: his work is done.  He also had the ability to decode complexity, through Uranus closely trine Neptune.  Pluto conjunct Chiron enabled him to confront harsh realities, especially those of his impoverished background and early segregated society.

Life and Career

Jesse was born in Greenville, South Carolina. His mother was 18, and his father was a married neighbour.  He had both Cherokee and African American Slave ancestry.  His mother married Charles Jackson a year after his birth, but he kept in touch with his birth father.

He studied at A & T, a black university in Greensboro, North Carolina, where he took part in local civil-rights protests.  After graduating with a B.S. degree in Sociology in 1964 at the age of 23, he began a course at the Chicago Theological Seminary, but left just before completing the course two years later, to concentrate on his participation in the civil rights movement.  However, by 1968 he was ordained a minister.

By this time, he was already working with Martin Luther King (and learning the power of oratory!).  The tie between them is tight astrologically: Jesse Jackson’s Ascendant at 25 degrees Capricorn was exactly conjunct Martin Luther Kng’s Sun.  That is a perfect depiction of Jesse’s implementation and manifestation (Ascendant) of the spirit of King’s work (Sun). He took part early on in their partnership in marches with him, and King entrusted him with an economic project Operation Breadbasket.  In this capacity, Jackson encouraged boycotts by black consumers to pressure white businesses to hire blacks.

Martin Luther King was assassinated on 4th April 1968.  The transits for Jesse were:-

Pluto on his natal North Node, a significant and karmic death in his life

Saturn opposite his natal Sun, the loss of a significant male figure in his life

Mars square to his natal Pluto in Leo in his 7th House, violence to a partner figure and leader

The transits for Martin:_

Pluto square to his natal Mars, the ultimate violence

Jupiter trine his natal Saturn in 8th House, a release leading to martyrdom

Mars transiting his natal Chiron in 12th House of Hidden Enemies

Understandably, Jesse went off the rails slightly, in the aftermath of this tragedy.  He made claims of his own heroism such as in cradling Martin Luther King at the scene, claims which were disputed, and tarnished his reputation temporarily.  But he was nevertheless the natural successor to his mentor.

In 1969 he was preaching racial reconciliation.  He took the view that in entering a coalition with whites, they could mutually tackle economic and class problems:

“When we change the race problem into a class fight between the haves and the have-nots, then we are going to have a new ball game”

In 1983 he decided to enter politics, and run for the 1984 presidential election, almost an unprecedented initiative in the black community.  He did not get far in the contests and process, but did better in his bid in 1988, becoming runner-up to Massachusetts governor Michael Dukakis.  As mentioned, he paved the way for Barack Obama twenty years later – he famously wept in the crowd when the latter was elected.

“Through the Rainbow/Push Coalition, he brought together black voters, organized labour, small farmers, peace activists and others into something that looked like a genuine social democratic bloc.”

~ Bhaskar Sunkara, President of The Nation, a progressive monthly American magazine

The Rainbow/Push Coalition grew out of Jesse Jackson’s 1984 presidential campaign.

During the first Gulf War (1990/1) he negotiated with Saddam Hussein in Baghdad for the release of captives from various nations, and in this was highly effective.  He was fulfilling the potential of his Sun in Libra diplomacy.

He supported LGBT rights, declaring: “No more homophobia. Let’s respect people, protect people. Everyone is somebody”.

During the 1990s he worked with the Clinton administration, and acted as spiritual adviser to Bill Clinton during the scandal of the Monica Lewinsky affair.  Jesse Jackson meant a lot to both the Clintons, and they posted an affectionate tribute this week.

In November 2017 he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.  At the time he had Uranus square his Ascendant from 3rd/4th House cusp in Aries, and Pluto square his natal Mars, both indicators of severe physical stress.

I have always been fascinated by Martin Luther King, Jesse Jackson, and the civil rights movement, including the more recent Black Lives Matter movement (2013).  I celebrated the achievement of Barack Obama gaining two terms of office as U.S. President (2009 – 2017).  But, sigh, there still seems a long way to go…

“Jesse told me that sometimes when you lose, or think you have lost, you have in fact won – because you have paved the way for others to follow.”

~ Simon Woodley, Principal of Homerton College, Cambridge

Aspects

Last week did seem to be a Watershed week, glimpses of a turning point for some, and especially for the victims of Jeffrey Epstein, with the arrest of Andrew Mountbatten.  Much has been made of his karma coming back to him with the Eclipse close to his Sun at 0 degrees Pisces (in old textbooks, the sign is known as the “sign of self-undoing”).  The Eclipse actually fell on his natal Chiron in his 7th House.  Chiron was also on his Midheaven at the time (righting a wrong in connection with his reputation).  I feel that Chiron (the planet of Solutions) had as much to do with it.

On to this week, and today!  Mars is sextile Chiron.  Benefits can accrue through the unclogging of stuck energy.  This aspect may see you on a healing mission of some sort.  Compassionate action may be the tone of the day, a day where physicality combines dynamically with healing.  A hug or demonstration of affection may be just what’s needed.  Note that with Jesse Jackson’s trine between Mars and Chiron he was able to channel healing energy.  A sextile energy is slightly weaker than a trine, but there is no doubt that some of Jesse’s passion came from this positive connection.

This evening Venus trines Jupiter, which is one of the brightest trines of the year (if not, the brightest).  Something may provide you with a richness of heart.  Venus with Jupiter is so very social, and can be romantic too.  It’s an aspect to savour and enjoy.  Proposals and engagements often occur under this combination.

On Thursday (26th) Mercury in Pisces is Stationary prior to turning Retrograde.  Most people will see this as an alert to take good care of their communications for the three-week period.  Pisces is notoriously fuzzy when it comes to the crispness of communications, so misunderstandings could abound.  The upside of Mercury in Pisces is that psychic awareness is heightened, but there is the possibility of being caught up in the astral realms!

So for a constructive and positive perspective, I always turn to “The Mercury Retrograde Book” by Yasmin Boland and Kim Farnell.  They say that Retrograde Mercury in Pisces “We have a longer time to focus on the mystical….Spending your time on hobbies that don’t involve your rational mind.”

Mercury goes Direct again on March 20th.

Friday (27th) brings an awkward square between Mars and Uranus.  It can be hair raising, explosive or brittle.  So it is advisable to chill out, and urge others to do so, and hope the message radiates.  This square can also be accident-prone, so if you are out riding your bike, make sure your helmet is firmly held on.  There may be some escalation of aggression in the current warsDon’t waste your time or energy on pursuits which are tricky.

But the week ends on a mellow note of Mercury conjunct Venus at 22 degrees Pisces, on Saturday (28th).  After a possibly jagged Friday, this congenial conjunction may be a welcome balm.  It could bring some happy socializing, with great conversations. It is perfect for cafe culture, ideal for artistic or literary endeavours, or negotiations (which may have fallen by the wayside the previous day).  Your communications will have an artistic flair, so it’s a good time to get creative.

The week in bullet points:

  • Today – flowing healing energy; social contentment
  • Thursday – communication glitches
  • Friday – jagged
  • Saturday – get thee to a café (or pub if preferred)

Aspects for the week beginning 15 February 2026

Watershed Week

This blog is to underline the importance of this week astrologically.  There are two highly important features taking place: A Solar Eclipse on Tuesday 17th, and the conjunction of Saturn and Neptune in Aries on Friday 20th.

These two features will shape this week as one to remember.  Your most powerful tools for this week are your Creativity, Intuition and Choice, but not necessarily in that order!

This blog is deliberately short, deliberately less is more, so that can focus the mind!

Aspects

Our aspect journey this week begins tomorrow, with a square at dawn between Uranus and the Sun.  Be aware of possible loopholes through which the element of the unexpected can enter.  Disruption can occur, but unexpected twists and turns may give you new ideas for future reference.

Uranus square the Sun can be disruptive, but can be used to bring in the new.  This week it was revealed that Steven Blake, the founder of OldPain2Go, passed away.  He brought in a new way of alleviating, and even removing, pain, even chronic pain.  He was a Sun in Aries, with a problem-solving and healing genius  Mercury-Chiron sextile, but also an exact square in his chart between Uranus and the Sun: hence he brought in something completely new, and made a huge success of it.  His widow and stepson have vowed to keep his work and legacy alive.

This square contributes to the Solar Eclipse, and its unpredictability.

In the evening, there is a superbly constructive trine between Mercury and Jupiter, always welcome…

This aspect will help business transactions, and expand our horizons, minds and philosophies.  This is an upbeat vibe mentally, one that takes in great wads of information, produces good ideas and may incline one to travel.  There may be media opportunities, for those so inclined, and it could be a productive day.  A cause for optimism may be found.  It may also assist nations reaching out to each otherComing on the same day as the Uranus-Sun square, internationally there may also be shocks and U-turns.

Tuesday 17th

Solar Eclipse in Aquarius

Around Noon on Tuesday (17th) the Solar Eclipse at 28 degrees Aquarius takes place.

The New Moon is traditionally a time to focus on your wishes and intentions for a new beginning, and this one projects farther into the future than most.  It is time to imagine a better world, a time when we have overcome current obstacles and problems, the outlook has been so bleak in the last year.

An eclipse heightens the tendency of the New Moon to usher in a turning point.  The consequences of an eclipse can carry over into the next six months.  If you have a birthday on 17th February, or have a planet or important feature in your chart at 28 degrees, this will have more relevance to you.

In addition, Uranus will be squaring this New Moon/Solar Eclipse from the end of Taurus.  Uranus as the ruling planet of Aquarius, and the Agent of Change, will even further heighten the effects of bringing in new experiences and marked changes, sometimes in the twinkling of an eye.

If you know what House 28 degrees falls in within your birth chart, you may have a sense of where the changes might occur.  You may even be preparing for them.

On the same day, Venus conjoins with the North Node at 9 degrees Pisces (Mean Node) or 8 degrees Pisces (True Node).  This tells us that it’s an important day in terms of personal karma. The karmic aspects of love (or the loving aspects of karma) are unearthed.  This conjunction takes place in Pisces, the sign of renunciation, surrender and forgiveness, so you will have an ability to let go of old unhelpful patterns in your relationships, sometimes going back to past lives.

Thursday 19th

The Sun enters Pisces on Thursday (19th).  We become more introspective and aware of our deeper emotions with this placement.  We become more aware of the sentience and oneness of all life.  The Sun in that sign shines a light on such matters.  It is our final stage of quietude and incubation before the Spring arrives in a month’s time.

Friday 20th

Saturn conjunct Neptune

Late afternoon on Friday (20th) brings the long anticipated conjunction of Saturn and Neptune at 0 degrees Aries, about which I devoted a whole blog at the start of the year.  It is a complex mix of energies, which each person will navigate according to their awareness of the interactions of this blend.  Personal and collective lessons which have occurred say in the last year will be reviewed, and resultant choices will need to be made.  There are several polarities involved with these two planets and trying to bring them together in consciousness: spiritual (Neptune) and material (Saturn), Water and Earth respectively, fluidity and rigidity respectively, dissolution and structure, and selflessness and selfishness respectively.  Are you able to master these sets of opposites, and turn them into an alchemy that will work for you?

It’s a Fresh Start, or New Order.  Those, such as people born in 1953 or 1989, who were born with this conjunction, will be familiar with the energetic dynamics, and more used to working with it.

Alan Oken, in “Complete Astrology” describes this conjunction in a birth chart:

“Consolidation unites with Illumination.  In some cases this aspect contributes to great confusion in the proper understanding of personal limitations.  There is a desire to break through existing circumstances and manifest one’s dreams in the physical world…  On the other hand, this aspect allows the imagination to successfully merge with the framework of life’s circumstances, so that the forces of inspiration are allowed to crystallize through the person to the Earth.”

Again, if you have planets or sensitive points in your chart at 0 degrees, this conjunction will serve even more importance for you.  And if your birthday is around 21st March, it will be an even more pivotal moment for you.

The power of this conjunction was illustrated during its 1989 manifestation by the fall of the Berlin Wall.

It is my hope that your clarity enables you to nurture Clarity in society, and local clarity informs the wider world.

The week in bullet points:

  • Tomorrow – bring in the new, if constructive; good communication and travel
  • Tuesday – turning point; love karma
  • Thursday – increased sensitivity
  • Friday – complex challenge and opportunity

Aspects for the week beginning 8 February 2026

Aquarian Archetypes

I am writing about the Aquarian Archetypes today, in this last of a series specifically about astrological Archetypes.  It’s been an interesting ride!  It is time to embrace the potential of this sign, turning the spotlight on its Archetypes.

A few words about Aquarian:  Always expect the unexpected.  Their use of the higher mind, through the ruling planet Uranus, ensures that their initiatives always come from left field!  In fact, they are on a roll at the moment, as their planet very recently went Direct again.

So, following as I usually proceed, are some thoughts I highlighted back in my 2016 blog, and then some examples of Aquarius and its Archetypes, including from history:

Networker

The Networker Archetype is one of the most prominent of Aquarian Archetypes.  It is often found in a chart when the Sun and Mercury, which travel round the zodiac together, are in the 11th House of Friendships and Groups.

Caroline Myss describes it as expanding “sphere of influence by forging alliances and making connections among vastly different groups of people”.

Liberator

The Liberator (from Myss again) “helps to liberate us from the self-inflicted tyranny of negative thought patterns and beliefs, spiritual sluggishness, poor nutrition, destructive relationships, or addictive behaviour”.  We all need that one.

Engineer *

This is an aspect of the Scientist.  In Gemini, the Scientist as an Archetype is related to teaching, academia, writing and research.  In Aquarius the Scientist is more dynamic, and with an association with Electricity.  The conjunction of Mars and Uranus in a chart often denotes a talent for mechanical or electrical engineering.

Trickster

Can the Trickster Archetype add to our understanding of the Coyote animal totem, or the Jay?

Caroline Myss has as its Light attribute “Transcending convention, stuffiness, and predictable behaviour” – all eminently Aquarian!  It “can be a great ally in presenting alternatives to the straight and narrow path, to people and institutions who seek to hem you in through peer pressure and conformism”.

Activist**

With Mars, in some capacity, Aquarius and Uranus produces the Activist.  For example, Mars in Aquarius often produces someone who champions the underdog, or uses networking and pressure groups to engineer social justice.

New Archetypes

Caroline Myss introduces new Archetypes in her book of 2013.  She originally wrote about Archetypes (which she sees in her inner vision) in “Sacred Contracts” in 2001.  She produced her Archetype Cards two years later.  She goes into more depth, and gives more guidance, about these newer archetypes.

Famous Example: David Bowie had both of these two Archetypes which follow, with his Aquarian Ascendant.

Rebel

Caroline identifies four types of Rebel, where the personality has grown into a more mature and cohesive expression of this Archetype: the Noble Rebel, the Anarchist Rebel, the Social/Civil Rebel, and the Feminist Rebel.

Famous Example: The groundbreaking feminist writer Germaine Greer is of course an Aquarian.

Visionary

In her Archetypes book Myss advises: “The lesson for the Visionary is to experience the power of your creative vision, however large or small, and to realize its potential in the larger scope of your life.”

Famous Example: quoting from Caroline Myss: “Oprah Winfrey [Aquarius] built a media empire around her vision to transform people’s lives.” – my brackets.*

Further Clarifications

*For the Engineer

Some of the Archetypes for Gemini and Aquarius can be blurred edges, blend, or meet in the middle.  Gemini is ruled by Mercury, the rational mind, and Aquarius by Uranus the higher intuitive mind.  Technology leans more to Aquarius through Uranus, but at the same time people blame Mercury Retrograde (associated with Gemini and Virgo) for I.T. glitches.  The tradition for interpreting Mercury goes back to ancient times, whereas Uranus is a relative newcomer.

**For the Activist

Where there is a strong connection between Mars and Uranus, sometimes also Mercury, in a chart, there is often a strong impulse towards Activism.  An Aries/Aquarius chart is one such indicator.

The Technician

I would add The Technician, another facet of the Scientific aspect of Aquarius, from the higher mind through Uranus.

The Activist

Rosa Parks (4/2/1913 – 24/10/2005

“I felt that, if I did stand up, it meant that I approved of the way I was being treated, and I did not approve”

~ Rosa Parks

Rosa Parks, dubbed the “mother of the civil rights movement” was the ultimate in effective activism, back in 1950s America, challenging bus segregation in Montgomery, Alabama.

She is a true blue Aquarian, born on 4th February 1913, but in addition had Mars closely conjunct her Ascendant, thus exactly fulfilling the criteria mentioned under The Activist Archetype.  Her Moon in Capricorn was conjunct Mars – a bolshy attitude, with quick emotional responses.  Her biographer Douglas G. Brinkley informs us that her refusal to move in favour of a white person on the bus was not premeditated.

She had Mercury conjunct Uranus, so was not afraid of controversy, mentally seeing the need for Change.  Mercury exactly square her Midheaven, was very symbolic of the fact that she was travelling on public transport when her crucial action took place in relation to her “work in the world” (Midheaven).

Uranus closely sextile the North Node in Aries showed a karmic mission to bring about change, making a personal stand.  And Chiron exactly trine her Midheaven meant that her action wasn’t just a personal healing, it had a wider implication

She was born in Tuskagee, Alabama, and her mother was a teacher.  Growing up in Alabama, she was painfully aware of the racial segregation policies and incipient violence.  She met her husband Raymond Parks, who was also an Aquarian activist, when she was 18.  He had Mars conjunct his North Node (karmic mission as a Warrior/Activist).  Her Mars was exactly trine his North Node.

The bus incident was therefore not her first act of defiance or activism.  She was involved in voting rights for black people, and supporting rape victims.

The act which made her famous, and changed the lives of black Americans took place around 5 pm on 1st December 1955.  She had chronic bursitis at the time, giving her a great deal of pain in her shoulders, but it was not the reason for her rebellion.  She got on a bus driven by a man called James Blake who she had some run-ins with.  Some white people got on the bus and he instructed that the black people give up their seats.  She refused, and the rest is history.

Her transits at the time were very revealing and apt:

Chiron was sextile her natal Venus – an act of self-love

Pluto was sextile her natal Pluto – self-empowerment

Uranus was sextile her natal Venus – rebelling successfully against social norms

What followed was a one-day boycott of Montgomery buses, the involvement of Martin Luther King encouraging the continuation of the boycott, and the eventual Supreme Court order of the integration of the bus system in Montgomery.

She lived to the ripe old age of 92.

“People always say that I didn’t give up my seat because I was tired, but that isn’t true. I was not tired physically, or no more tired than I usually was at the end of a working day. I was not old, although some people have an image of me as being old then. I was forty-two. No, the only tired I was, was tired of giving in”

And

“I had been pushed as far as I could stand to be pushed. I had decided that I would have to know once and for all what rights I had as a human being and a citizen.”

~ Rosa Parks

The Rebel

Germaine Greer – (b. 29/1/1939)

No less groundbreaking within her own field, that of feminism, is Australian Aquarian Germaine Greer.  The focus in her chart is the Moon conjunct Uranus (change on behalf of feminism, where Moon – Women and Uranus = Change) which is situated at the base of her chart, the foundation of all she does, and involving her Sun’s ruler Uranus.  Her rebellious spirit is shown to be intensified by the fact that Uranus, the planet of Rebellion, squares her natal Sun in already rebellious Aquarius!  Uranus is also exactly square to her Ascendant, accentuating the rebellion even further.  She is an iconoclast, in that respect.  Venus closely square Neptune in her chart gives her a super-sensitivity to female issues.  Mars exactly trine Pluto provided a vehemency and strength of purpose.  Mercury opposite Pluto may also be excoriating in speech and writing.  Jupiter trine Chiron points to the attempt to heal something in the collective psyche.

She created Controversy (her middle name, and another name for Uranus) when she published her book “The Female Eunuch” in 1970.  Transiting Neptune was on her Mars in the 10th House of Career at the time, and combined with Pluto sextile her Mars: making it both a sensitive and impactful event.  Mars in 10th House represents Self-Assertion in the world.  Chiron was sextile her natal Sun, making it an important healing for her.  Jupiter was riding high at the top of her chart exactly opposite her natal Moon, the focus of her Feminism.  The book is arguably the first mainstream popular book on the subject.

You may notice that with your Aquarian family, friends and acquaintances, some of them have more than one of these Archetypes.  While the Sun is in Aquarius (until 19th February, this year), you can connect with your own Aquarian Archetypes, or Uranian qualities if you do not have any Aquarian planets, and explore their potential.

P.S. Spot the deliberate mistake, in this blog! ;-}

I’d like to end with my poem to Aquarius, written in 1981:

Aquarius

The human race is my sphere:

I am above petty concerns,

But the wider issues

Evoke my conscience,

And I shall bring everyone

to that realization

18/1/81

Aspects

Today Uranus squares Venus, which may contribute to an abrasive day for meetings.  The way through is to use your intuition, and stay one step ahead.  Relationships can be disrupted, and subject to misunderstandings.  On the other hand, on a higher level, it can open up telepathic communication between individuals.

Venus wriggles free of Uranus by Tuesday (10th) and enters the waters of Pisces.  Where she may have been defiant in Aquarius, she becomes more emotional in the watery sign.  This brings in a higher frequency of compassion.  You may have been looking at things in a mental or practical way, and may be able to relax a little and allow the heart greater expression.  The trend towards tenderness lasts until her entry into Aries on 6th March.  Charities can be honoured and prioritized, and the Arts can be especially inspired during this period.  Collectively, there is more sentimentality and the free-flowing of tears with Venus in Pisces.

Wednesday (11th) brings a sextile between the Sun and Chiron.  This could be a cheery and healing prospect.  It’s onwards and upwards, and also helpful for problem-solving.  What do you yearn to solve?  There will be an attempt to bring everything to a wholeness.  If you are meeting a friend for coffee, you could discover more in common than you thought, and more potential for the friendship.

Mercury conjoins the North Node at 9 degrees Pisces on Thursday (12th).  This can bring karmic information and communication of a subtle but revealing nature.  Follow the cues and clues – they may provide added interest to your creativity and acquisition of knowledge.

Finally on Friday (13th), Saturn re-enters Aries.  We are handed a huge dose of reality, and letting go of the unreality of Saturn in Pisces.  For Saturn-ruled Capricornians in particular, its placement in Aries will bring out the inner fighting spirit.  For Aries people, and depending where in Aries their natal Sun is, they will need to step up, take responsibility, and grow.  For the population in general, it is about personal growth, accountability and maturity.  Saturn, a slow planet, in Aries, the Mars-ruled fast-paced sign means that patience will be needed to adhere to a long project, and see it through (something that Aries-Mars doesn’t usually have the capacity to do). “Rome was not built in a day” may be one of the mottos of this two year period: the impatience of Aries polished by the stamina of Saturn.  It’s good to get a foothold on this ingress around this time, before the great conjunction of Saturn and Neptune at the 0 degrees Aries point on 20th February, as detailed in my New Year blog.  A good strong foothold and foundation will make it easier when Neptune tries to blow the house down, as in the children’s nursery rhyme of three little pigs.  If you have a house made of bricks instead of straw, then you can deal with what Neptune is asking you for spiritually.  As mentioned in my New Year blog, people who have a Saturn-Neptune link in their natal chart will have useful experience in dealing with this dynamic.  One further piece of advice, choose love over fear.

The week in bullet points:

  • Today – disrupted relationships, healing through intuition
  • Tuesday – release some emotion
  • Wednesday – creative and healing problem-solving
  • Thursday – karmic information
  • Friday – setting out new and stronger foundations

Aspects for the week beginning 1 February 2026

Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal

Leading Actors in Hamnet

The chemistry of these two actors on screen seems to be matched by their chemistry off screen, if you listen to their own descriptions of their relationship.

Paul: “I adore her”

Jessie: “I could drink you like water working with you every single day.  You’re a giant of the heart and thank you so much for making me a little more human.”

This is not a blog about the film itself, though it is a triumph, directed by Chloe Zhao in a production involving Steven Spielberg and Sam Mendes.  Hubby and I went to see the film a couple of weeks ago, and were stunned by it.  We could totally see why it is up for so many awards.  The film is about loss and grief.  I can’t evaluate how true the plot is, taken from Maggie O’Farrell’s book “Hamnet”, and her theory that William Shakespeare wrote Hamlet out of the experience of losing his son.  But strangely, after the film ended, at a time when you usually ask each other what you thought, we did not speak to each other for an hour!  The film was raw and primal, which was a lot to do with Jessie’s performance.  Hubby was especially taken with the realism of the film.  The scenery in the countryside and in the reconstructed Tudor buildings, was spectacular, too.  But I was particularly moved by the breathtaking performance of the young actor playing the son, Jacobi Jupe, the son of Coronation Street actress Katy Cavanagh.  One of my friends, who has lost more than one child, could not think of watching this film, she told me.  So in a way I am taking a side-step in addressing the more frivolous matter of the relationship between the leading actors.

Jessie Buckley

[People] “will be talking about Jessie Buckley’s performance for years.”

~ David Fear, Rolling Stone magazine

Birth Chart

Jessie has the Sun in Capricorn, born on a New Moon in that sign.  She can bring a freshness to all she does.  Her Sun and Moon make a high number of conjunctions to other planets, to Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.  That leads to a sophisticated awareness and intensity, which she brings to her roles.   The Sun and Moon also oppose Jupiter and Chiron, adding enthusiasm and depth.  She has Venus exactly sextile Mars which is the raw sensuality she exudes in Hamnet.  Jupiter opposing Uranus means she is willing to take risks.

Life and Career

Jessie was born in Killarney, and attended an all-girls convent school.  Her mother is a vocal coach.  Jessie attended RADA, and graduated in 2013.  Her acting credits include the BBC production of War and Peace (2016), Sky Drama Chernobyl (2019), theatre production of Cabaret with Eddie Redmayne (2021).  And now, she plays Agnes Shakespeare in Hamnet (2025) for which she has received a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress (Drama), and a nomination for the Academy Award.  She lives in Norfolk, and after making the film, she had her first child.

“It’s Buckley who’s giving one of those rare turns that simply beggars belief. She swings back and forth from cast iron to porcelain. The actress is thunderous, playful, grounded and ethereal.”

~ Johnny Oleksinski, New York Post

Paul Mescal

I first wrote about Paul Mescal when he starred in Normal People in 2020:

“Paul is an Aquarian, which chimes well with Daisy’s [Daisy Edgar-Jones] Sun in Gemini.  With Moon in Cancer, he has a strong feminine side. He plays a sensitive character, with an exact Venus/Saturn conjunction in Pisces (Daisy has Venus conjunct Saturn in Aries).  And that is not where the similarity in their charts ends, for they both have Sun conjunct Mars in Air, which gives them a combined magnetism.  And they both have Jupiter unaspected, which is unusual!”

I would add that a birth time has since come to light (we don’t have one for Jessie), which gives him a Cancerian Ascendant (more affinity with females).  It highlights that relationships are a strong point for him (Jupiter opposite the Ascendant in the 7th House of Close Relationships; the Moon trines Venus indicating harmony with women).

Life and Career

Paul was born in Dublin, so both he and Jessie were born in Ireland.  His father, also named Paul, was a teacher and actor.  He attended the Lir Academy at Trinity College Dublin, graduating in 2017.  Trinity College based novel “Normal People” was published by Sally Rooney in 2018, and Paul starred as leading man Connell in 2020 in the television series of the same name, a role which made Paul famous.  He missed out for an award in the Golden Globes, but has been nominated for an award for the forthcoming BAFTAs.  His next project is to play Paul McCartney in a four-part biopic about the Beatles.

Synastry

The synastry between Jessie and Paul’s birthcharts is special.  Their Chirons are exactly square, so on a higher level they can be healers to each other.  His Neptune conjuncts her Mercury, which is a supersensitive mental connection.  His Mars is conjunct her North Node, so he may act as an animus to her, especially in connection with her karmic mission.  Jessie’s Uranus/Sun conjunction  is conjunct Paul’s Jupiter, a joyful combination. But what strikes me most about their charts is that they are both specialists, with most of their planets bunched up in the signs of Capricorn and Aquarius.  Furthermore, the batches of planets run from almost exactly the same points:

Paul’s: from Jupiter at 6 degrees Capricorn to MC at 22 degrees Aquarius

Jessie’s: from Uranus 5 degrees Capricorn to the North Node at 18 degs Aquarius

That is particularly spectacular!

Paul and Daisy

In 2020 I wrote about Paul’s partnership with Daisy Edgar-Jones, also an inspiring coupledom:

“Have they got chemistry, as well as all the amazing similarities in their charts?  Wow, have they!  Daisy’s Uranus (the ability to wow) is exactly conjunct Paul’s Sun, so it is a dynamic relationship on a personality level.  Paul’s Jupiter trines exactly Daisy’s North Node, so they bring each other luck, and karmically were destined to do so.  Paul’s Uranus is conjunct Daisy’s Neptune (demanding sensitivity and stimulating intuition for them both), and his Pluto is also exactly opposite her Sun, which is lifechanging, and draws out the depths in her psychology.  Paul’s Pluto seals the deal with a sextile to Daisy’s Neptune, so they are able to give all they have got in a working partnership.”

Transits

For Hamnet’s Film Premiere in the U.K. (9/1/26) and the Golden Globes (11/1/26)

For Jessie:

Saturn sextile her natal Mercury (solidifying her mental skills)

North Node sextile her Neptune (a karmic acknowledgement of her sensitivity and empathetic acting ability)

For Paul:

Pluto sextile Paul’s Pluto (empowerment)

Chiron sextile Paul’s Midheaven (it has a healing application for his career and the way he is perceived)

Saturn transiting his Neptune in 7th House (nailing his sensitivity in relationship, and his ability to portray it)

Jupiter square his Nodal Axis (an upbeat and expansive expression of his karmic mission)

Mars on his Mercury (mental stimulation)

Bafta nominations (27/1/26

Jessie has an additional trine of Jupiter to her natal Pluto, which is very promising.

Paul has an additional sextile of Neptune to his natal Uranus, and Neptune stands tall at the top of his chart, symbolic of a possible acting accolade.

Hopefully, they will both do well in forthcoming award hand-outs.

Grief and loss are a perennial part of the human condition and life cycle, but losing children was constant in days gone by, in centuries gone by, in our past lives.  Going back to the film – Shakespeare was the master of Tragedy, and the film certainly lives up to this aspect of his work.

Aspects

There’s a Full Moon on the rise today, taking place at 12 degrees Leo.  Emotional intensity is building up. The Moon in Leo can be dramatic, and bring about power struggles, especially in groups, as it opposes the Sun in Aquarius.  But Leo is creative, and can write its own screenplay, so do your best to create your own reality your own way.

Tomorrow (Monday 2nd February) Mercury will be sextile with Chiron, and alternative healing can work well with conventional medicine – it needn’t be either/or.  So you may be making or attending appointments of this nature.  It is a positive and constructive aspect. This can also bring a satisfactory outcome in the arena of communication.  For example, something you might have been told was impossible finds a way through, and a problem may turn up with a solution.

Uranus is Stationary prior to going Direct on Tuesday (3rd), which is a good window to do all you can to alleviate any collective, tribal, or social difficulties which you can see.  Closer to home, you may see what could be done in the family setting, or in the community.   Intuition will flow better, and future vision come into view.  Although the trickster element of Uranus may still be in evidence, glimmers of hope twinkle on the horizon.

It is the turn of Venus to sextile Chiron on Wednesday (4th).  This is a congenial and healing influence, especially for relationships.  It is a good day to combine the Arts with Healing, such as creativity which involves and brings about healing.

We have a square on Thursday (5th), between Uranus and Mercury – not quite so constructive.  Be prepared for glitches, and back up your computer files (mental note to take my own advice!), while considering I.T. loopholes.  Speech may be controversial.  Use your intuition to be one step ahead – the Universe may be trying to show you new pathways, and possible new perspectives.  If you were thinking of launching Aquarian initiatives on that day, get your communications on point.

The last astrological feature of the week is an ingress of Mercury into Pisces on Friday (6th), which increases mental focus and communication around compassionate issues, such as the vulnerable, those with mental health issues, and the state of institutions, such as prisons and the NHS.  In the period of its journey through this sign compassion will be more easily shown and charity given, and it will be easier to receive ideas of creativity and inspiration.

The week in bullet points:

  • Today – emotional high tide
  • Tomorrow – mindful healing
  • Tuesday – Intuition rules OK
  • Wednesday – healing relationships and the Arts
  • Thursday – I.T. glitches
  • Friday – focus on compassion

Aspects for the week beginning 25 January 2026

Brand it like the Beckhams

“I remember his birth [Brooklyn’s] being announced like a royal baby.”

~ Frank Skinner

It has been a tricky week for the Beckhams.  Victoria and David’s eldest son Brooklyn has thrown accusations about them, questioned his childhood, and said he does not want reconciliation.  He has told the world that his mother upset himself and his bride on their wedding day.  Subsequently, some supporters have come to the aid of Victoria and achieved a number 1 hit for a song she recorded way back in the year 2001 “Not Such an Innocent Girl”.  David meanwhile made an unusual entrance at the Davos economic forum in Switzerland, in a week where everything was going on with the aspects (see last week’s blog) and Donald Trump continued to shock the world.  David’s advice at Davos and perceived wisdom was to say that children have to learn from their own mistakes.

I haven’t written about the Beckhams before on my blog.  So, today, I will take a simple look at the four people at the heart of this sad tale: Victoria, David, Brooklyn and Nicola, and see what their current transits are saying.  It may or may not throw some light on the matter.

Victoria Beckham

Vital Statistics: Sun in Aries, Ascendant in Cancer, Moon in Aquarius

Self-orientated, Family-loving, likes to look Cool

Birth Chart

Victoria has a lot going for her in her natal chart.  Her Part of Fortune is situated in her 11th House (of Friendships and Groups), and so her Path to Fortune was through the band “The Spice Girls”.  She has the Warrior Archetype (Sun closely sextile Mars, Moon closely trine Mars, and from past life warriorship Mars on the South Node).  Success in society, singing and fashion career is shown in Venus conjunct Jupiter on her Midheaven (career).  Her possible controlling nature would be shown in a close conjunction between her Mars and Saturn.

David Beckham

Vital Statistics: Sun in Taurus, Ascendant in Taurus, Moon in Capricorn

Practical in mind and body, and Pragmatic

Birth Chart

David has a very solid chart, with the Sun, Mercury and Ascendant in Taurus, and lives up to the money-making reputation of Taurus (he has helped her in the past with her fashion business).  His career in Football is shown by Mars in his 10th House of Career.  But his life purpose may be as a Teacher: witness Mercury closely conjunct the Ascendant and loosely conjunct the South Node.  That would include football coaching.  His life in the public eye is shown by his Moon conjunct the Midheaven and trine the Mercury/Ascendant, across his 8th/9th House cusp.  He would be intensely involved with his children, with Pluto in the 5th House, but Pluto could include ruptures such as that involving Brooklyn now.

Synastry

They’ve had a long and fairly solid marriage, so let’s look at their Synastry:

Victoria’s Sun is conjunct David’s Chiron, often seen in close family bonds, especially where one is seen as the healer of the other.  Her Moon is exactly conjunct his 10th House cusp of Status.  Her Mercury is conjunct his Jupiter, so they can assist each other in business ventures (that includes “brands”).  Her Venus is exactly sextile his Sun (a love match).  Her Mars trines his Uranus (that’s the “spark”!).  And his Venus is sextile her Chiron (another healing interaspect).

Brooklyn Beckham

Vital Statistics: Sun in Pisces, Ascendant in Libra, Moon in Libra

Sensitive, People-Pleasing by habit, and emotionally prioritizing relationship

Birth Chart

So into their lives in 1999 came their first-born son, Brooklyn.  The Moon in his chart is exactly opposite his natal Venus, signifying problems between the women in his life.  That goes to the heart of this present problem!  He has Mercury conjunct Jupiter, so he’s a bright lad.  The sensitivity of Sun in Pisces is compounded by Mercury closely sextile Neptune.  He has his own power, though, with Jupiter trine Pluto.  He has Neptune in his 4th House of Home and Family, which shows complexities, and enigmas in that sphere of life.  His Ascendant and Moon ruler Venus is in his 7th House of Marriage, highlighting the importance of that bond.  Pisces is the photographer’s sign.

Synastry with his parents

With Victoria: You would expect a lack of harmony between his chart and his mother’s, given recent developments.  But in fact there is a great deal of harmony in their interaspects, for example his Sun in Pisces is conjunct her Venus.  A possible conclusion might be that the turnaround happened when he met Nicola and bonded with his future wife, and that became a stronger influence.  Interestingly there is a tricky aspect connected with her Part of Fortune, in that his Uranus (Inner Rebel) is square to that point in her chart, catching her off guard in a possible estrangement.

With David: Brooklyn’s Mars is exactly opposite David’s Sun, and David’s Mars is conjunct Brooklyn’s Sun, indicating some strife between them.  But there are some good connections between them, such as their Suns being sextile.  Both Victoria and David have Pluto conjunct Brooklyn’s Ascendant, which could make him feel they are always “on his case”.

Nicola Peltz

Vital Statistics: Sun in Capricorn, Moon in Aries or Taurus, without birth time

Status-conscious, emotionally not so complicated

Birth Chart

Nicola comes from a wealthy family, her father Nelson being a self-made billionaire.  Nicola’s Sun in Capricorn can be quite status-conscious, and ambitious.  She is an actress.  Her Sun conjunct Neptune gives her some affinity with Brooklyn’s Sun in Pisces, and she is likely to be very emotional.  She has the complexity of Uranus conjunct Neptune present in many charts in the early 1990s, though she was born when the two planets were separating in 1995.  She, like Brooklyn, has power play in her chart, in her case through Jupiter conjunct Pluto.

Synastry between Brooklyn and Nicola

There will be good communication between them, with his Mercury trine her Venus (and she has her Venus sextile her natal Mercury).  Her Mercury is conjunct his Neptune, and sextile his Jupiter.  His Mars is exactly conjunct her North Node (possibly “us against the world” mentality).

Synastry between Nicola and Victoria

Victoria’s Sun is square Nicola’s Uranus, which can be a sign of estrangement.  And there seems to be very little affinity or connection between their charts.

Synastry between Nicola and David

David’s Sun is on Nicola’s South Node, which could indicate a power struggle going back to previous lives.  But there is some harmony there, as his Mercury forms a Grand Trine with her Uranus and Chiron.  Her Mars squares his Nodal Axis (some karmic strife) but her Venus is conjunct his North Node (so they are likely to have known each other in a past life in a closer capacity).

Transits this week

For Victoria

Neptune is square to her natal Saturn, forcing her to relinquish control.  Her consolation prize of her song going to No. 1 in the charts may be down to a healing Chiron transit trine her natal North Node, a karmic gift.  Saturn also squares her natal Mars (harsh). Mars squared her Sun, which can be very triggering.  And the North Node was on her natal Venus (a personal karmic reckoning, which can go either way).

For David

Uranus is exactly on David’s Ascendant at the moment, which can bring a shock, though steady Taurus as he is he looked quite calm walking into Davos…And Saturn sextile his natal Ascendant working with Uranus, helped stabilization.  Entering his 11th House of groups, symbolically expressed his entry into the company at Davos.  Mars was square to his Midheaven, a relatively minor threat to “Brand Beckham”.  The karmic element in his transits was the Nodal Axis squaring his natal Neptune, causing a scandal of sorts, and intrigue.

For Brooklyn

Pluto on Brooklyn’s Neptune, cathartic for him, at the end of his 4th House of Home and Family  and sextile his natal Chiron.  It’s as if he has consulted an Astrologer as to the correct time to come out with it.  A catharsis for him.

For Nicola

Pluto is on her natal Mercury, the hurt goes deep for her, which is certainly what Brooklyn was trying to convey.  However, Neptune trine her Pluto may enable her to release some of that hurt.  At the same time, Chiron squaring her Neptune may raise new traumas in the matter.  There may be consequences…Jupiter is opposite her natal Sun, she may be pleased on some level, too.  The North Node is trine her North Node, so she may be regarding this as a karmic win.

A few interesting astrological nuggets there…but what a sad family story.

“Shakespeare knew about tragedy: how we love to see the great brought to their knees by the suddenly spinning wheel of fortune and, indeed, “How sharper than a serpent’s tooth it is to have a thankless child” [King Lear].

~ Frank Skinner

Aspects

I have only three aspects for you today.  My goodness, they were all used up last week.  And what an eventful week it proved to be…

Tomorrow (26th) Neptune will re-enter Aries, preparing to make its momentous conjunction with Saturn at 0 degrees Aries (see my first blog of the year).

As I wrote last March:

“Neptune in Aries is almost the antithesis of Neptune in Pisces in many ways: it represents the self-awareness leading to self-assertion rather than victimhood.  It represents the “enough is enough” attitude of the populace.  There are signs that the extreme right wing and authoritarian governments are starting to experience a backlash, e.g. in Turkey.  So Neptune in Aries is about divesting yourself from illusion and moving towards personal emancipation.  We are at the beginning of this particular journey.”  It is a spiritual shift.

Incidentally, that blog was written when Donald Trump first made his sensational announcement, which occasioned my first blog on the subject:

“We need Greenland.  And the world needs us to have Greenland, including Denmark.  Denmark has to have us have [sic] Greenland.”

~ Donald Trump

Here we are, with Neptune’s re-entry, and it is still a sore point.  We may hear more, this week.

On Tuesday (27th) we have one of the most volatile conjunctions of the year, if not the most…Mars conjuncts Pluto.  Yesterday, as it approached, we heard of further bloodshed on the streets of Minneapolis, and more ruthless battering of Ukraine from Russian forces.  Man’s inhumanity to man, indeed.  This conjunction It occurs once every two years.  Keep out of mischief, and try to work out your strategies for peace in advance; organize a group meditation if possible.  As you know, I am a great advocate for meditation, and nowhere or time is it more suitable than during a Mars/Pluto event.

The third aspect of the week is another conjunction, and it takes place on Thursday (29th) in the shape of Mercury conjunct Venus.  This may spark a sunburst of ideas to be communicated, discussed, and start the ball rolling towards making practical use of what comes to you.  This conjunction is ideal for socializing, conversation, artistic (get yourself a box of watercolours) or literary endeavours, or negotiations.  Your communications will have an artistic flair, so it’s a good time to get creative.  I associate this conjunction with Cafe culture thrives and conversation flowing ~~~

The week in bullet points:

  • Tomorrow – grounded spirituality
  • Tuesday – stay away from contention
  • Thursday – good conversation

Aspects for the week beginning 18 January 2026

Spinoza (1632 – 1677)

“All the cosmos is a single substance of which we are a part. God is not an external manifestation, but everything that is.”

~ Baruch Spinoza

It’s about nine months since my last Philosophy blog, which was about the Scorpio Philosopher Voltaire, so permit me to carry on…!  For those of you who find the subject tedious, you’ll be glad to know I only have three more on the agenda (Capricorn to Pisces).  But this one belongs to Spinoza.

Sagittarius is the Philosopher’s birth sign, although as far as I am aware Spinoza was not “into” Astrology.  Contemporary Isaac Newton (1643 –1727) born only eleven years later, but longer lived, famously did give a nod to Astrology; in a retort to Edmond Halley (1656 – 1742), Newton told him “I have studied the matter, you have not!”

All that is by the by, for Astrology may not have been any concern of this notable Philosopher of Philosophers.  He may not have lived for more than 45 years, but his impact on his subject is immense.  He was a forerunner of the Age of Enlightenment.

Birth Chart

Fortunately, we do have a birth time for him.  Spinoza had 5 Fixed and 5 Mutable planets (high stubbornness and high adaptability) but 0 Cardinal (an absence of the wish to lead).  In his Element count, he had 0 Air planets, which meant that he operated mostly on instinct.

His Sun in Sagittarius was closely conjunct Saturn, meaning that he could mentally travel between the Universal (Sagittarius) to the particular (Saturn).  His Moon was exactly opposite Neptune, giving him the Mystic Archetype.  Caroline Myss writes of the Mystic Archetype:

“Follows selfless path of practice to achieve union with the Divine or a state of enlightenment that manifests as service to others, and

Consistently places inner knowledge above material concerns”

Spinoza had Ascendant, Chiron and the North Node in Aries, so to some extent he used himself as a measurement for his theories (as did Arien Descartes).  But his researches were deeper, as testified by his Mercury in Scorpio opposite Pluto.  In addition, his Mercury was closely opposite Jupiter, showing a wide ranging mind, balancing logic and expansive thinking (an echo of his Sagittarian Sun conjunct Saturn, as described above).  The North Node loosely conjunct Chiron, described a karmic mission dedicated to solving the mysteries of life.  He also had the Warrior Archetype, in Mars exactly trine the North Node, something he needed to deal with the slings and arrows of his life, although he tended to deliberately avoid conflict. Jupiter was conjunct Pluto in his chart, denoting Power, particularly religious power.  His work had power, and was intensely religious, but at the same time offended Jews and Christians, partly for his pantheistic ideas.  Uranus square Midheaven describes the controversial nature of his career, and work in the world, while Uranus trine Pluto saw him become an unapologetic agent of Change.  Chiron in Aries loosely conjunct Ascendant made him a challenging personality to be around, and emphasized the problem-solving nature of his task in life.

Life and Career

Spinoza was born in Amsterdam, to a Jewish family who had fled Portugal.  His father was a merchant, and Spinoza was steeped at an early age in the Hebrew sacred texts.  His mother died when he was six years old.  His father hoped he would become a rabbi.  However, as a young man, he came to challenge and question this very tradition, and he was expelled from his Jewish community on 27th July 1656 (he was 23 at the time).  His transits paint a telling picture: Yes it was painful (the transiting Nodal Axis squaring his Chiron rising), but there is an element of divine intervention or blessing about it with Pluto sextile his Chiron and Jupiter opposite his natal Saturn (both transits freeing him).

Philosophical enquiry then took over as his main area of research, and among his early influences were the Greek Stoics, Thomas Hobbes (1588 – 1679) and Rene Descartes (1596-1650, see my blog dated 20/1/2020). He started to built up a following (the equivalent of a modern day influencer!).

The extent of his work was vast, and incorporated metaphysics, epistemology, political philosophy, ethics, among other branches of philosophy.  He moved to the Hague in 1670, in order to be at the centre of his supporting community.  His Progressed  Sun at the time trined his natal Moon in 1st House, depicting a more congenial habitat for him.

Philosophy

His main work was titled the “Ethica”.

Here are some of his tenets, taken from “Spinoza – A Very Short Introduction” by Roger Scruton:

“What, then, is the relation of the mind to the body?

Descartes fudged this issue, and it proved to be the major reason for dissatisfaction with the Cartesian system.”

“Everything in the world exists by necessity, and that it could not be other than it is”.

“Spinoza’s answer to the riddle of existence can be put succinctly: all things that exist, exist necessarily, in thoroughgoing interdependence.”

But, don’t take it from me.  I have the resident expert, who is continuing to study the subject with Cambridge University…

After I completed two Philosophy Certificates and one Diploma, hubby elected to carry on, and has made Spinoza his specialist subject.  I decided to keep writing Volume III of my trilogy of novels, “The Quiet Office” (tagline “Windows to the Future”).

I hereby give him voice to put my blog right!  He says:

‘I would like to offer a quotation from Bertrand Russell’s “History of Western Philosophy”, where he says:

“Spinoza (1632 – 1677) is the noblest and most lovable of the great philosophers.  Intellectually, some others have surpassed him, but ethically he is supreme.”

I would add that not only was he ethically supreme but he was Einstein’s philosopher of choice because Spinoza explained everything in his metaphysics and gave a place for nature’s laws that made sense.  His ideas on psychology, the mind and ethics have been accepted by many modern-day practitioners.

Regarding nature’s laws one of Spinoza’s most famous phrases is “Deus sive Natura”, i.e. God or nature.  God and Nature are interchangeable and so he asserted that everything exists as part of a single, unified reality.’

Death

Spinoza’s death was sudden, due to a lung infection (Saturn opposite his natal Mercury in Scorpio in his 8th House).  The condition was probably due to dust produced by the grinding of his lenses.  After his death, his followers ensured that his writings were published, in Latin and Dutch.

“Spinoza sets forth a vision of Being, illuminated by his awareness of God. They may seem strange at first sight. To the question “What is?” he replies: “Substance, its attributes, and modes”.

~ Karl Jaspers

Aspects

If I have counted correctly, there are 17 astrological features to pay attention to this week.  I think that’s a record (in the nineteen years of writing this blog).  You may want to digest the “aspects” (though not all of them are aspects) one day at a time!

Starting with today, we have a conjunction of Mercury and Mars at 26 degrees Capricorn, a dynamic start to the week.  Get going!  This conjunction may assist you in getting things done.  It brings brisk action, mental and physical stimulation, and again can help movement in your projects.  There is a small element of risk of being incident-prone, as in minor cuts and bruises.  So mindfulness is a key to successful outcomes.  The conjunction is mentally acute and favours critical thinking, if you are composing an analysis, a review or critique.

We then have a New Moon at 29 degrees Capricorn.  If you are using the optimum Capricorn energy, you could have good results today, especially if you are starting a new project connected with organization, politics, and relations with authority and the institutions of society.  As it is the first New Moon of the year, it may be particularly pertinent to set your intentions, firm up your new year’s resolutions, polish up your affirmations, and sharpen your creative visualizations, for the year ahead!

Thirdly, we have a sextile between Mercury and Saturn, signalling that thoughts and feelings can be channelled and harnessed into constructive plans and ideas.  Mental foundations can be laid.  The aspect favours documentation and again knuckling down to form-filling etc.  Geminis and Virgos have the chance to regain their balance, if they need to.

Moving on to tomorrow (Monday 19th), we have four features to negotiate, the first being Mercury trine Uranus.  This can bring mental brilliance, technological upgrades, lightbulb moments, and futuristic inspiration can be yours.  The mind will be uplifted, and computers and I.T. devices given or received, will be on good form and working satisfyingly well (famous last words…!).   It’s a good opportunity for people to apply their minds and receive flashes of intuitive solutions for the problems that beset us, personally, collectively and globally.

Aspect No. 2 for tomorrow/Monday 19th (keep track of the days, so that you can keep track of each discrete feature, if you are playing along…!) is a sextile between the Sun and Neptune:  a congenial note.  The saying may go that you can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear, but the Sun sextile Neptune gives you the best chance of creating beauty and inspiration in your life.  If spiritual harmony, poetry and creativity are some of the goals and aspirations you have this year, you can safely and profitably cultivate them on Monday, or at least a portion of Monday!

The third feature for Monday is the entry of the Sun into Aquarius.  With the Sun in Aquarius, we are more open to embracing Change, as we emerge from the stiffness of winter, like snowdrops from the ground.  We still have a way to go before Spring, but are ready to look at different ways of being.

And lastly on Monday, Venus will be conjunct with Pluto at 3 degrees Aquarius, introducing a deeper psychological element into the day’s complexities.  There is much more reflection about the enormity of change, and the impact on humanity.  You may need to do some soul-searching in order to have a handle on your feelings.  In your interactions, deep honesty may be required. A strong dose of chamomile tea and lavender may be needed all round, e.g. in the case of emotional upheaval.

Phew, two days down, seven features already.  You’d think the “aspects” would slow down, but they are still coming thick and fast, for Tuesday (20th) brings five astrological features…

We start with the sextile between Saturn and Uranus: It’s a major aspect and enables stabilization.  This is a time when you can do something for yourself which is constructive.  You may have a joint venture with someone which is new and innovative, but need a steadying force.  Make no mistake, this is the most important aspect of the week, balancing the old and the new.

Next on Tuesday Mars trines Uranus.  You are likely to see, or initiate, bold and controversial moves.  It favours mechanical and engineering enterprises, but also social engineering, and sporting interests.  There could be surprises in connection with men, cars and dogs!

In contrast, but part of the same complex of aspects, Mars then sextiles Saturn, an aspect which will give you the tools you need and possibly the opportunity to put into practice a project or scheme which you may have been trying to get to for some while.  It is good for both beginning and finishing practical and active projects, e.g. for putting that final piece in a jigsaw.  Some solid ground can be gained with the boost of this aspect, especially in the later waking hours of the day.  You can firm up ideas which have come to you under the previous aspect of Mars trine Uranus.

The fourth aspect on Tuesday is Mercury sextile Neptune, which ushers in an influx of intense imagination.  This aspect will assist you in refining your mindset, because our minds will be open to receiving higher guidance more easily.  Delicate conversations and channelling will also be made easier.  Artistic efforts may also be rewarded.

And lastly on Tuesday, Mercury enters Aquarius.  You may see a surge in space-age related news items and influences.  Technology, too will flourish, and more conjectures and possible concerns about the implications of A.I. (e.g. avoiding Grok).

We have reached mid-week, Wednesday (21st), when the Sun will be conjunct Mercury in Aquarius.  That brings a touch of sparkle to your consciousness.  It is a good day to apply your mind with clarity, concentrate and focus, make important statements, and look to the future.  You may write or speak some memorable lines.  Look out for some telepathy, too!  You may feel the urge to clarify something.

That’s it, for Wednesday.

Thursday (22nd) brings with it a conjunction between Mercury and Pluto, at 3 degrees Aquarius.  This is about serious thought and communication. Words will have a profound effect.  Deeper motives may be revealed.  Listening too is important, and exchanges may become cathartic, if sincerely transacted.

That’s it for Thursday.

A further three features remain for Friday (23rd), beginning with Mars sextile Neptune. Though we have energy this week, through a great deal of activity with Mars, here it is softened, made more gentle, and spiritualized by virtue of the involvement of Neptune.  It brings refinement to your actions and activities.  This favours flowing exercise such as Tai Chi, Qijong and Yoga.  Combining the physical with the spiritual is ideal, and achievable.  So go for your ideal spiritual fitness regime.

Mars again stars in the next feature, another ingress, that of its entry into Aquarius, shifting another planet into that sign, and taking away from Capricorn.  You may feel that you have tied up some loose ends while Mars was in its recent stint Capricorn, and are able to turn your attention to wider social ventures, such as supporting the underdog or encouraging community projects.  Mars in Aquarius is about teamwork, but also about activating friendships (e.g. engaging in shared leisure interests together).  Mars will be in Aquarius until early March.

The last aspect of the week, and also on Friday 23rd, will be a conjunction between the Sun and Pluto at 3 degrees of Aquarius.  There may be some drama to be played out today (that may be the date of the finale of The Traitors!).  Today could be a profound wake-up call, both personally and collectively.  Practicing meditation and calming techniques would be a good way to proceed on the day as the deeper issues of life come up for assessment.  Any creativity will have depth to it, and you won’t be able to skim the surface of things. But you will emerge the richer for it.

The week in bullet points:

  • Today – brisk action; new beginning; applied mental energy
  • Tomorrow – mental brilliance; spiritual creativity; openness to Change; emotional depth
  • Tuesday – balancing the old and the new; bold moves; applied energy; imagination; focus on technology
  • Wednesday – sparkling concentration
  • Thursday – depth of thought and speech
  • Friday – spiritual movement and energy; collective action; drama

Aspects for the week beginning 11 January 2026

Capricorn Archetypes

I am writing about the Capricorn Archetypes today, before the month of Capricorn is out.  This is the penultimate of my series specifically on astrological Archetypes.  It’s been fun…although the Capricorn version may be on the serious side!  It is time to embrace the potential of this sign, turning the spotlight on its Archetypes.

A few words about Capricorn:  If you have Capricorn Sunsign, you may be accused of having your cup half full.  But they who accuse you are mere fools…you are just being realistic!

So, following as usual, are some thoughts I highlighted back in my 2015 blog, and then some examples of Capricorn and its Archetypes, including from history:

Politician

The Politician Archetype represents the role of Capricorn in the outside world, associated with its 10th House of Career and Capricorn’s gift for administration.  I created a Past Life Archetype for South Node in Capricorn in an article of 2010 which encapsulates much about Capricorn’s association with Politics:

Archetype:  The Politician

Place: Russia

Time: 1905

“My name is Piotr, and I whisper in the corridors of power. But even the whispering has rules. You speak only when you are spoken to by someone above your rank. You only speak that which is necessary and the bare minimum and for a serious purpose.  Every word is weighed carefully.  And information is classified, on a need-to-know basis.  Sssh!  I cannot tell you anything at the moment.  Sometimes you’d think this was an old Trappist monastery.”

Hermit

At the opposite end of the spectrum and paradoxically withdrawing from the world, the Hermit also expresses part of the Capricornian psyche.  Capricorn men in a family often play the role of the strong, silent type, which is a type of withdrawal.

This Archetype has features in common with Pisces (spiritual retreat) and Virgo (“I want to be alone”, uttered by Greta Garbo who was a Virgo).  I see the Capricorn manifestation as less of a spiritual retreat than the Piscean manifestation.  In Tarot, Saturn (Capricorn’s ruler) is often ascribed to The Hermit, because of its association with Old Father time (Chronos).

One of the variations of Hermit is the Recluse.  One whose name was synonymous with reclusivity is Howard Hughes:

Famous Example: Howard Hughes

Millionaire Howard Hughes famously took refuge in the Desert Inn, where apparently he did not open the curtains for 9 years.  He had Sun/Uranus in Capricorn in 4th House of Home.  When he began his reclusive behaviour Pluto was square his natal Venus (a major change in relating to others).

The Patriarch

The Patriarch is a Capricorn Archetype, the polar opposite being the Mother of the Cancerian Sun sign.

Under “the Father” for the Leo Archetypes, I wrote:

“Shared with the sign of Capricorn, this Archetype in its Leo manifestation brings up a feeling of Protectiveness and Guidance.  The Capricorn manifestation is more authoritarian and disciplined in nature.”

The Leo Father Archetype is closer to the Creator and is more playful, whereas the related Capricorn Archetype of the Patriarch has more gravitas.

In Caroline Myss’ book “Sacred Contracts” (and she is making no distinction between the Father and the Patriarch) she writes: “This archetype combines a talent for creating or initiating with the ability to oversee others, whether a biological family or a group of creative people”.

Crone

A word about ageing, zodiacwise: Geminis are known for looking and acting ever youthfully.  Capricorns are known for having an old head on young shoulders when young, and growing old gracefully into their old age as their prime of life.

So we have as a Capricorn Archetype the Crone, or Wise Woman.  Again quoting from Caroline Myss: “Wisdom also comes with age, and so the Crone or Wise Woman represents the ripening of natural insight and the acceptance of what is, allowing one to pass that wisdom to others.”  Again we have a hint of the qualities of patience and forbearance of Capricorn and Old Father Time Saturn, a sense of knowing that All Things Must Pass.

In her Shamanic system, Nicky Scully uses the Crone as a major player on her healing journeys: “It is this Crone, the wise, old female aspect of yourself, who opens your third eye and begins instructing you on the ways of intuition, herbs, and healing.”

Other Archetypes

The Administrator/Organizer

Capricorn is a Cardinal sign.  Cardinal  is one of three Quadruplicities (the other two are Fixed and Mutable).  The qualities of the Cardinal signs are Enterprise, Administration and Organization.  You often see Capricorns climb the ladder of ambition in their particular field, much as the mountain goat climbs the mountain.  There at the top (and it may take them a good few years, but they have patience and determination), they partake of the roles at the top of their profession, e.g. as CEOs, Company Secretaries, or Ofsted Inspectors, etc.

The qualities of Administration and Organization are strong within them, particularly if they are born on the cusp of Capricorn-to-Aquarius (around 19th/20th January).  Capricorns can do well in the Civil Service, and I know several who have flourished in the teaching profession (which holds a great deal of responsibility).  Aspiring Capricornian teachers do best if they have an accompanying Moon or Ascendant in Gemini (The Teacher Archetype) or Leo (The Performer).

The Pathfinder

The Pathfinder Archetype relates to the leadership role suggested by Capricorn as one of the Cardinal signs.  I wrote about this in relation to the Wolf totem.

Again from 2015:

“About 20 years ago [as of 2015!], I submitted a feature to “Kindred Spirit” magazine about Wolf totem, and its association as pathfinder and teacher with Capricorn.  The article wasn’t printed, but they wrote another article in response, and printed an accreditation with our names (it was co-written by myself and my Capricornian daughter).

Wolf is the Teacher in the sense of being an Elder, imparting wisdom born of experience.  It is this quality which links him with Capricorn.

The “lean and hungry look” of Cassius in Julius Caesar also links to Capricorn’s physicality, an attribute of wolf.

Famous Example: Kevin Costner

Kevin Costner has Sun closely conjunct Chiron in Capricorn and North Node in Capricorn, and was driven to make the film “Dances with Wolves” in which he starred as hero.  I believe he was tapping into a Native American past life, and indeed he had karma with the Native Americans even in this lifetime, as later there was a dispute over rights to land, but he also set up an educational centre in relation to the history of the bison and the Native Americans.”

The Curmudgeon

The Carmudgeon is an Archetype of old age (the Capricorn season of life), whereby some Capricornians adopt the persona of Victor Meldrew, as played by Richard Wilson in One Foot in the Grave.  Hubby belongs to a group who meet regularly, under the title of “The Grumpy Old Gits”.  They begin by listing all their current ailments, but to be fair they then relax and allow the irony of life, and the laughter to take over. Of course, the current state of the World and Politics are a common subject of discourse, politics being equated with Capricorn.  As far as I know, none of them have a Capricorn Sun, but their self-designated title does speak of Capricorn!

Historical/more in-depth Examples

The Mountaineer

Apa Sherpa (b 20/1/60)

Apa Sherpa, or to give him his full birth name, Lhakpa Tenzing Sherpa, is a Nepalese mountaineer who has held a record for the number of times he climbed Mount Everest and reached the summit.  He achieved the ascents between 1990 and 2011.  He met Edmund Hillary on many occasions.  His father died when he was 12, and he took  on the family responsibilities, looking after his mother and siblings.  This is a Capricornian role, the old head on young shoulders.  He left school, and found a job working as a porter for mountaineering groups.  His Sun is right at the end of Capricorn, at 29 degrees of that sign. His Sun ruler, Saturn, is strengthened with a close sextile to the Sun itself.

The Politician

Richard Nixon (9/1/1913 – 22/4/1994)

The 37th President of the United States, was among other things known for the Watergate scandal.  His was the first political autobiography I ever read, and I took a keen interest in his story in the early 1970s.  He had the Sun in Capricorn, together with Mercury and Jupiter. His duplicitous nature was down to his Sun being opposite Neptune.  He had the Critic Archetype, Mercury exactly conjunct Mars.  Taken with Jupiter in a triple conjunction, he learned a skill in debate at school, which stood him in good stead.  That he had a temper may be seen in his natal opposition between Mars and Pluto.  An overweening desire for power is shown in Jupiter opposite Pluto.  He was the “Politician” par excellent, in its more negative connotation (but he did achieve a lot, too), though many politicians are well-meaning and motivated to try to improve the world.

You may notice that with your Capricorn family, friends and acquaintances, some of them have more than one of these Archetypes.  While the Sun is in Capricorn (until 19th January, this year), you can connect with your own Capricorn Archetypes, or Saturnian qualities if you do not have any Capricorn planets, and explore their potential.  Give some warmth to your local Capricorn, as sometimes they can feel unappreciated!  Capricornians like to organize themselves (and sometimes others) with rules and regulations, synchronizing with the New Year’s sense of resolve!

Aspects

There’s a lot  of astrological weather this week, so you might find this week eventful!

We start with Chiron square Venus today, which highlights self-nursing and relationship issues.  You may, for instance, be having to rest a knee through over-exertion, or you may be having to examine a relationship wound.  If there is an emotional crisis, then healing could be nearby – if in doubt, go within.

Tomorrow, Monday (12th) finds us with a square between Chiron and the Sun, so the theme  of dealing with wounds continues.  A dilemma may be posed, a problem to be solved, or even a healing crisis to be soothed.  It is a time to hone your Inner Healer, both for your self-healing, and for anyone who comes into your orbit.

Jupiter opposes Mercury on Wednesday (14th) so you may find you have a balancing act to manage.  This aspect is mentally stimulating but can lead to mental resources being overstretched.  Travel news may also be quite testing, e.g. people being in long queues.  Jupiter opposite Mercury is a learning curve, and can bring out some humour, but needs some caution in the playing.

Saturn also sextiles Uranus, an opportunity to balance the old with the new.  Pay attention to your values, and make sure you are not throwing the baby out with the bathwater.  Otherwise, this is a very constructive and important aspect, enabling stabilization and moving forward.  This is a time when you can do something for yourself which is meaningful.  You may have a joint venture with someone which is new and innovative, but need a steadying force.

On Thursday (15th) Venus forms a sextile with Saturn.  Relationships need consideration, and will repay the time and loyalty you give them.  It is a helpful aspect for laying the foundations of artistic or musical work.  Any paranoid fears may be allayed and steadied.

It really is Venus’ day, for she also forms a trine with Uranus.  This could be good news for Taureans and Librans.  This aspect can bring exciting meetings!  You may for instance bump into an old friend.  The aspect may set you up with insights, or bring other encounters of the illuminating kind.  In the field of the Arts, it can bring originality and surprise, e.g. to a performance of music or a pantomime.  Ideas for assisting the problems in our society may also crop up, such as community-based solutions.

A square between Chiron and Mercury on Friday (16th) may bring a few hitches, however, especially on the health front.  Do you go with conventional or unconventional medicine?  Or a bit of both?  Again, we are back to the need to look at wounding, both physical and psychological (and the relation between them).  This may cause some mental strain, a headache, a conundrum.  Remember that often a problem can contain its own solution.  Attentiveness to health and healing is required, but first the question has to be aired.  The solution may just take a little work, or some lateral thinking.

If you thought it was a busy week, it has merely been building up to a wildly busy Saturday (17th).  First, Venus sextiles Neptune, which may to some extent smooth over the concerns from earlier in the week (such as the need for healing).  It is a most pleasant sextile, a delightful aspect – a beautiful expression of spirituality and the Arts.  New artistic avenues can flourish, ingenious ways for people to share art, music and performance can ensure the Arts are kept alive.

Then, the Sun sextiles Saturn, a good stabilizing aspect, but not as exciting as the previous one (but remember that they can both operate all day, and interact).  This aspect can take creative expression and ground it into reality.  Practical initiatives are supported by this aspect.  It is a good aspect for setting up solid foundations, for instance.  It’s a good aspect for finalizing details smoothly for your new year plans and intentions.

Next up, Venus enters Aquarius, no longer constrained by the social conventions of Capricorn, and more congenial.  This may lighten the social mood, and you may have some extra mental energy at your disposal, such as the telepathic superpowers of Aquarius through its ruler Uranus.  You will feel more connected to people, but not in a clingy way, more in the mode of a higher evolutionary consciousness.

Increasing self-confidence in the use of intuition can occur under the next aspect, which is the Sun trine Uranus.  It’s a veritable new broom of an aspect!  This is a hopeful influence.  It may bring an unexpected go ahead to forge on with innovative plans and original creativity. It is an ideal aspect for reinforcing your New Year’s Resolutions and Affirmations for the coming year, updating them, or thinking up new ones to add to your list.  You may be in a position to spring a happy surprise on someone.  If you have been increasingly technophobic or technogrumpic of late, it may be a chance to make friends with this seemingly necessary aspect of the march of “progress”.

The week in bullet points:

  • Today – self care
  • Tomorrow – healing wounds
  • Wednesday – mental overstretching; balancing and stabilization
  • Thursday – loyalty; social excitement
  • Friday – healing issues to attend to
  • Saturday – smoothing over; more stabilization; a freer socialization; brilliance

Aspects for the week beginning 4 January 2026

Saturn conjunct Neptune

The Watershed

A standout astrological phenomenon coming this year will present itself on February 20th, and I believe it’s important to prepare to it, and work towards it, to make the best of its challenge.  It’s not far away in time, hence my description now at the start of the year. I am calling it The Watershed, a defining moment.  So this is a cross between a motivational piece and a cautionary tale, because what you put in and create affects how such a conjunction works out for you.

Where is it?

The conjunction takes place at a pivotal astrological point: that of 0 degrees Aries, the degree where the Sun is usually placed at the Spring Equinox.  Therefore, symbolically, it denotes a Fresh Start, or a New Order. There is a section towards the end of the blog which indicates its application in each of the Houses, if you know your particular House placement.

What it is

It is the meeting and struggle between the Spiritual (Neptune) and the Material (Saturn).

The Saturn Component

Principle to pare everything down to basics, such as economically

The Neptune Component

Principle of greater sensitization and surrender (to the divine, perhaps)

I am reading Mel Robbins’ book at the moment “Let Them”, which alludes to this in a way.

Combination

A complex conjunction such as this can have two applications:

  1. They work separately, and clash, being very different in this case.  Both Saturn and Neptune have a negative side, and can bring each other down!
  2. On a higher level, work to blend them, so they work as one force, and apply them to your higher aspirations and goals.

The goal is to simplify your life in this period as much as possible so that at this point you can see the wood for the trees, have greater clarity and perspective, and have the openness to deal with something new that may present itself.

Alan Oken

Worth quoting in full, from my favourite astrological textbook “Complete Astrology” by Alan Oken, he describes its nature with regard to its placement in the birth chart thus:

Keywords: Consolidation and Illumination

Consolidation unites with Illumination. In some cases this aspect contributes to great confusion in the proper understanding of personal limitations.  There is a desire to break through existing circumstances and manifest one’s dreams in the physical world; disillusionment may come through false hopes.  On the other hand, this aspect allows the imagination to successfully merge with the framework of life’s circumstances, so that the forces of inspiration are allowed to crystallize through the person to the Earth.  I have found that the aspect gives an extraordinary ear for music and, in a very few, can bring true clairaudience.”

People who have it natally

Those with this natal placement have been navigating it all their lives.  They are to some extent used to its energy, and may have learned ways to deal with it within their own psychological framework.  The conjunction occurs every 36 years, and people born around 1917, 1953 and 1989 have this in their charts.

Historical precedents

1917 saw: the closing of World War I;

Bolshevik Revolution in Russia

1953 saw: the end of the Korean War;

The death of Stalin

1989 saw: the fall of the Berlin Wall;

The collapse of the Soviet Union

Tiananmen Square demonstration in China

What can we learn from these?:

In summary, ending of wars, collapse of empires, dissolving of boundaries: Saturn represents walls which were once solid, and Neptune the dissolving of these walls.

So what can we learn from all this?…Getting the balance of boundaries right, another thing to aim for in this period (that could include work/life balance, for example).

Strategies

If you have made New Year’s Resolutions (and I am neither for or against them) you will have certain goals or ambitions to aim to use in this period.  It is probably better to have them, than to drift aimlessly and fully allow the Universe to choose…!  (Be a Co-Creator, why don’t you?).   If you feel your project is the next step, it probably is: you have consciously or unconsciously chosen.

Decluttering, of mind and stuff, seem a priority now, in the quest for simplification.

Self-reliance is an important component of the new you, the new era, because 0 degrees Aries represents The Self, she or he who is Reborn.

Choice is also crucial  in this period.  I have a friend who talks about “the Sword of Cleavage”, a biblical term, but also one associated with the return of the Messiah, Maitreya.  It is a point of choice for all of us, for example choosing positivity or negativity, choosing love or fear, seeing reality or illusion.  What may you be in denial of, for  instance?

Health and Fitness

Attending to health and fitness goals are of course important components of a re-set, especially coinciding with the New Year.  I have been watching videos of Sunna Van Kampen eagerly providing the most unprocessed and low sugar products in supermarkets.  (I would love to have his energy!).

I pre-ordered his book, and it just arrived this week, and so I am learning a lot more about the best choices to make in the supermarket aisles.

Going Forward, a Personal Tale

Both hubby and I have (literally) just acquired hi-tech health-related aids.  For me, I have had to be dragged (at the age of 76) kicking and screaming into the 21st Century, acquiring a Continuous Glucose Monitor for my diabetes.

For hubby, he finally admitted he needed a hearing aid.  When we would watch the rare television programme together (University Challenge) he had needed the volume turned right up.

Both pieces of equipment are super hi-tech.  In the few days I have had it, I have learned so much about what foods spike my blood sugar, that I wonder how I ever did without it.  The truth is, I had avoided it for so long because I am technophobic.  However, it took the two of us three days of tribulation to set it up!

For hubby, as the Boots practitioner told us, going at great lengths to show all the all-singing all-dancing features of these hearing aids, there is so much they do.  For example, if you are in a restaurant, you go to Restaurant-mode, which enables you to focus your hearing and conversation with one person, and screen out the background noise.

I feel that Pluto going into Aquarius has occasioned this new development, handing us new tools going forward into 2026.

How it presents in the Houses

Where it applies…If you know where 0 degs Aries falls in your chart:

1st House – a total re-ordering of your affairs

2nd House – a reckoning in your finances, economies and better choices needed

3rd House – a more sensitive use of words, and the need for clarity in communication

4th House – charity begins at home, get your own house in order, focus on that rather than trying to manage others.  Again Mel Robbins’ book “Let Them” may be useful for this.

5th House – channel the energy and issues of this conjunction into creativity

6th House – focus on healing, and/or cleaning up the workplace, e.g. in health and safety or environmentally

7th House – put your most positive energies into your nearest and dearest relationships

8th House – connect more deeply with your spiritual sources, and the meaning of life

9th House – manifest the clearest qualities of this conjunction which speak to you, and expand from the centre, even globally

10th House – ascertain the North star of your life purpose and work in the world, and refine it

11th House – work in the context of friendships and groups to raise consciousness at this time

12th House – go within, to the subconscious mind, and connect with your own deepest wisdom, e.g. through dreams and meditations

If you don’t know where 0 degs Aries falls  in your chart, ask an Astrologer!

A Nice Reminder

Kim Gould, the Human Design person, has written about this conjunction:

“As we approach the Saturn-Neptune conjunction, which is happening in Gate 25.3 on 20 February 2026, we are learning more about the benefits of feeling safe in the world. We are coming out of a time when cruelty and intimidation have been the go-to tools for a top-down extraction-based society. One of our main ‘weapons’ against the tyranny of this culture is to create safety with each other. To keep each other safe. To share our stories and honour the lived experience of others.”

In conclusion:

At best: It’s a re-set

At worst: creeping issues

Make the most of what you can control.  Remember, it’s all for our learning!

Happy New Start!

Aspects

The aspects this week begin on Tuesday, January 6th, with the Sun conjunct Venus, at 16 degrees Capricorn. If you are an artist or a musician, it is a day when you can produce your best creative output or performance.  If neither, then love or money may be beneficiaries of this combination.  A good time to set or re-set your value system.

On the same day, we have the Sun conjunct Mars, so a triple conjunction situation, in the same degree.  This brings an upsurge of energy (and possibly conflict), and certainly much intensity.  You can get things done, but also it can bring out the warrior in people, while also bringing out the warrior in peacemakers!  If you are sure that you are entirely justified, in integrity and constructive, then go for what you want.  If you are a peacemaker, then your work may be cut out.  It may not be a day to take big risks, for either type of personality, but it is important to feel what you feel.  If you are prone to headaches, take time to chill out.

The third facet of this triple conjunction is Venus conjunct Mars.  This could spell romance for some.  Tell those you love how you feel about them, and tell yourself how you feel about yourself. Sensuality and hedonism are other possibilities when Venus and Mars get together.

If it’s your birthday, marriage could be on the cards this year!

A Fixed Star for Wednesday (7th) – Pi Sagittarii (3 stars, one of which is a yellow giant) which provides a cosmic perspective which links to our physicality.  From “Starlight Elixirs” by Michael Smulkis and Fred Rubenfeld:

“…This group of stars will assist individuals who wish to contemplate and understand their own genetic coding, their connection to their own DNA, and the awareness of their own lifelines through the physical body.  They may be able to understand their heritage and genetics, as well as their awareness of how these things could be changed by them more consciously…”

On Thursday (8th) we have a sextile between Mercury and the North Node, setting up a productive element to the day: the karmic wind will be beneath your wings.  Communication will be highly significant and imbued with meaning, though subject to differing interpretations according to belief.  Some solutions can be found: today.

Venus opposes Jupiter on Friday (9th).  Venus and Jupiter are known as the lesser and greater benefic planets respectively, so they don’t tend to do too much damage to each other, and they may even have a good time.  There could be some much needed laughter for instance, hopefully at no one’s expense.  Or if at another’s expense, no harm done.  There’s the possibility of letting out some tension in light relief.

Two more oppositions occur on Saturday 10th, the first being Jupiter opposing the Sun, which is more than a touch of rebellious humour, perhaps extending from Friday.  We may be trying to cover too much ground, and overstretching ourselves, erring on the side of arrogance, although likely to be in good humour.  You may want to be travelling.  If armchair travelling, philosophical reflections on the quality of freedom in your life can bring relevant insights for this Jupiterian aspect and timing.  Or if you can extend to a desk, writing a comedy script would also be a suitable occupation for the day.  Next year’s Pantomime in embryo?

And the last aspect of the week, on the same day, Jupiter opposing Mars.  This is a high energy feature, with the emphasis on enthusiasm and sporting interests.  This, combined with the New Year aspiration may result in a new surge in gym membership and attendance, for instance!  Keep fit regimes will be re-ignited.  Again, watch a possible tendency to over-react.

“I would say to you, take life one step at a time, and let your new beginnings start to unfold and bring more love and peace into your life. Don’t feel discouraged if something doesn’t seem to be happening. Good things are happening for you and your life is changing all the time in positive ways, even if you can’t see those things clearly yet.”

~ Lorna Byrne

The week in bullet points:

  • Tuesday – artistic and musical licence; high energy; sensuality
  • Wednesday – cosmic and physical awareness
  • Thursday – karmic wind beneath your wings
  • Friday – a lighter note
  • Saturday – overstretching; more high energy; still humorous

Aspects for the week beginning 28 December 2025

Review of the Year 2025

It’s that time again…Time for the Review of the Year.  Selections from the blogs, as usual, for those of you who like to review the year…

January

26th:

“A Complete Unknown”

Biographical Film of Bob Dylan

Last Monday, hubby and I ventured forth to see the film starring Timothee Chalamet documenting the early years of Bob Dylan’s musical career.  It gladdened the heart of these two 75 year olds, and moved us to tears.  We were teens when Bob was developing his career, so it was the nostalgia which got to us to a great extent, combined with the beauty of the music, and the extraordinary quality of the acting.

Timothee Chalamet, Birth Chart

Chalamet has the Sun, the planet of Acting, in Capricorn at the beginning 5th House of Acting.  His character portrayal of Bob Dylan is astonishing.  His 10th House cusp (one of two careerpoints) at 3 degrees Gemini is exactly conjunct Bob’s natal Sun.  He was born to play him.  Timothee has 5 planets in ambitious Capricorn in his 5th House of Acting. He has Moon in Pisces, the other sign of the acting profession; the sensitivity as distinct from the showmanship of Leo.  He has Mercury exactly conjunct Neptune (the “channeller” conjunction; well it seemed, however strange, that he was actually channelling a living person!).  He also possesses the Uranus/Neptune conjunction of the 1990s, which enables him to process complexity, while his Ascendant in Virgo ensures an attention to detail and perfectionism which contribute to his huge skill.

EastEnders

Celebrating its 40th Anniversary

The long-running soap opera EastEnders celebrates its 40th anniversary this week, by setting fire to its local pub, The Queen Vic.  Funny how soaps like to celebrate with disasters…I will try and keep this blog short, as I don’t know many people who still watch EastEnders.

The show first aired at 7 p.m. on 19th February 1985, later moving to the 7.30 p.m. slot to avoid clashing with Emmerdale Farm.  That first episode was viewed by 17 million people. The marital disharmony between Angie (actor Anita Dobson) and Den Watts (Leslie Grantham) were prominent in the early days, culminating in the Christmas Day 1986 episode where divorce papers were presented.  However, Den’s daughter Sharon (played by Letitia Dean) still appears in the show, as done (apparently the longest serving character/actor) Ian Beale/Adam Woodyat.

EastEnders is set in the fictional borough of Walford, with the fictional postcode of E20.  With Coronation Street, Brookside and Emmerdale Farm already established as northern soaps, London was chosen as the location.

Greenland

“We need Greenland.  And the world needs us to have Greenland, including Denmark.  Denmark has to have us have [sic] Greenland.”

~ Donald Trump

American Vice President J.D. Vance paid an unrequited and uninvited visit to Greenland this week.  Not content with bidding for Canada as a 51st state, President Trump would like to annexe Greenland, presumably as his 52nd state.  As with Ukraine, he is interested in its potential mineral wealth.  It seems contradictory that someone trying to keep immigrants out of his own country, feels able to justify taking over populations in other countries.

Greenland, with its capital at Nuuk, is the world’s largest island, and has its own culture (such as music) and identity, which owes nothing to America.  Writing in the Observer this morning, Sarah Ditum explains that it was originally inhabited by Norsemen hunting walruses and trading ivory.  Then the population vanished mysteriously, but its current population arrived about 800 years ago.  She describes the terrain: “hard black volcanic rocks rear up from the shallow turf”.  Most residents of Greenland are Inuit.

The solar eclipse at 9 degrees Aries this weekend apparently was viewable up to 90%, and the northern lights were spectacular, too, nature marking the importance of this time for the country.

April

27th:

Pope Francis (1936 – 2025)

“What is built on the basis of force, and not on the truth about the equal dignity of every human being, begins badly and will end badly.”

~ Pope Francis

Pope Francis died last Monday at 7.35 a.m., Rome, aged 88, from double pneumonia and a stroke.  He had been ailing, and his health had been a significant cause for concern, since February, when Neptune was trine his natal Pluto in his 1st House (deep seated changes), Saturn square his natal Chiron in the 12th House (physical deterioration), and the North Node trine his natal Pluto 1st House (a reorientation of the Soul).  His journey back to his maker was being prepared.

Birth Chart

I took a good look at his chart when he was elected in March 2013.  I wrote:

“Sun in Sagittarius is traditionally the sign for conventional religion, and pontification.  His Sun is close to the galactic centre, so he may be aligned with spiritual realities, and it is conjunct the North Node (karmic mission) which confirms that his path is a true one (for him at least).  He is comfortable with religious power.  There is a down-to-earth quality about him, and if he is of a certain evolutionary level it may be significant in his life and works that Earth is the esoteric ruler of Sagittarius.

May

18th:

Pope Leo XIV

“Evil will not prevail: we are all in God’s hands….The world needs His light…help us build bridges, with dialogue, to always be at peace.”

~ Pope Leo XIV

I’m a bit late posting about Pope Leo XIV, but I felt there needed to be a gap between Popes in this blog!  Welcome to the new custodian of the Roman Catholic community.  His inauguration mass is being held today in St. Peter’s Square, and we have already seen his first outing in the Popemobile.

Birth Chart

We do not have a birth time for Pope Leo, but see that his planets are bunched up in the Leo (see what I did there) – Virgo – Libra segment of the zodiac. He doesn’t have a profusion of aspects to his personal planets, which may be an indication of his wider service.  He has the Sun in Virgo, which of course is the sign of Service.  His Sun is conjunct Venus, bringing Love as a central theme of his life and character.  This Sun in Virgo is exactly square to the Nodal Axis, again emphasizing service and Power surrendering to the greater good.  His Moon may be in Leo or Virgo.  At Noon on that day, the Moon was closely sextile Neptune (great emotional sensitivity) and exactly conjunct Pluto (extreme emotional depth).  He has Mercury sextile Jupiter, a breadth of learning and widespread travel (from Chicago to Peru to Rome).  This aspect is often found in the charts of poly-linguists (he knows English, Spanish, Italian, French, Portuguese, German and Latin.)  Venus is trine Chiron, which is about healing through Love.

June

15th:

Brian Wilson (1942 – 2025)

“There were times when [mental illness] was unbearable but with doctors and medications I have been able to live a wonderful, healthy and productive life.”

~ Brian Wilson, 2019

A universally acknowledged musical genius, Brian Wilson, died this week aged 83.  Together with his band, The Beach Boys, they formed a glorious soundtrack to the sixties.  From a difficult relationship with his father, and lifelong struggles with mental health and drugs, his life was not easy, and much of his vast creative output remains unpublished or unrecorded.  But those he did bring to the world went straight to our hearts.

Birth Chart

Fortunately, we do have a birth time for Brian, which reveals the basic specifications of Sun in Gemini, Ascendant in Taurus, and Moon in Virgo.  Yet, as you will probably have guessed, the picture is far more complex.

He was almost an astrological twin of Paul McCartney, born two days later in the same year.  They have admired each other, but also rivalled each other.

July

27th:

Ozzy Osbourne (1948 – 2025)

“It’s crazy that anyone would think I’d be in league with the devil, because I’m terrified of all sorts of shit.  I’m very superstitious.  I have to try not to be, otherwise I wouldn’t leave the house.”

~ Ozzy Osbourne

Ozzy Osbourne, the godfather of heavy metal, frontman of Black Sabbath, died last Tuesday, at the age of 76.  Birmingham was in mourning, but grateful to have had the group’s farewell gig on 5th July.

Birth Chart

We are fortunate to have a birth time for Ozzy, and can clearly see the shape of his chart.  His nickname, “The Prince of Darkness” is starkly shown by his Ascendant in Scorpio, with its ruling planet Pluto (the Prince of Darkness) at the top of the chart.  There is no mistaking his persona.  He has the Sun in Sagittarius, a sign which also has a strong showing in his chart, with Chiron/Mercury/Sun in Sagittarius in his 1st House.  This contributes the humour which so many who knew him valued, the slapstick clumsiness, and the tendency to excess (both Scorpio and Sagittarius have a tendency to excess).  His Mercury was exactly square to his Saturn, a common sign of dyslexia.

August

3rd:

Sarina Wiegman

“The success of Sarina: she is always herself”

~ Hans Verheij

Last Sunday afternoon, a nation watched as the Lionesses, our Women’s football team, triumphed in the final of the UEFA champions league.  The match was nailbitingly close, involved a penalty shoot out, and represented a second such triumph for the team’s manager, Sarina Wiegman.  This week saw a homecoming parade and celebration in London for the team, with Sarina dancing and singing with her favourite music artist, Burna Boy.  What makes the magic of a successful manager, and team?  We came to know and love the characters playing over the period of the tournament, and I will look at a few.

Birth Chart

We do not have a birth time for Sarina, but she has the Sun in Scorpio: so she’s intense, passionate, and driven.  Scorpio is a persevering sign, and with having Moon in Taurus, she is doubly so (both signs are part of the Fixed Quadruplicity).  She has the Sun opposite Saturn, experience born of hardship, which hints that as a player, she specialized in defence.

September

7th:

Zack Polanski

New Leader of the Green Party

“A fluent media performer”

~ The Guardian

“I believe that his style and emphasis meet the challenge of the moment”

~ George Monbiot

It’s been a turbulent week for politics in the UK this week: Angela Rayner was forced to resign as Deputy Prime Minister, a cabinet reshuffle ensued, Boris-Johnson-lover Nadine Dorries defected from Conservative to Reform…But then you had to notice the election of the radical Zack Polanski as Green Party leader this week, chosen by 85% of the Greens.

Birth Chart

Zack has a specialist’s chart, planets bunched up and concentrated in a segment of the zodiac, which helps to provide the passion for his cause: after all, who doesn’t want the planet to succeed?  His Sun is in Scorpio, one of the Warrior signs, and he exhibits one of its possible archetypes, The Firebrand.

October

5th:

Jane Goodall (1934 – 2025)

“…animals are “far more aware and intelligent than we ever imagined and, despite having been bred as domestic slaves, they are individual beings in their own right. As such, they deserve our respect. And our help. Who will plead for them if we are silent?”

~ Jane Goodall (referring to farm animals)

The celebrated primatologist and anthropologist Jane Goodall died on Wednesday at the ripe old age of 91.  She seems to have come into this lifetime intent with purpose, and achieved an amazing set of achievements throughout her long life, being on a lecture tour at the very end of her life.

Birth Chart

Such a remarkable lady would be likely to have a remarkable birth chart, and she has.  The pioneering, courage, and adventurousness just stack up in her chart.

Her Sun was in Aries (courage, The Pioneer and Warrior Archetypes), bold and fearless.  In addition, Aries has an unmistakeable primal quality, which obviously she possessed in order to do the empathetic work with the chimpanzees.

The Sun was opposite Jupiter in her chart – adventurousness, and sextile the North Node (she was master of her own destiny).  Her Moon was in Sagittarius, again adventurousness.  The Moon was conjunct her Ascendant in Sagittarius, on the 12th House side: depicting living out in the wilds.

November

30th:

The Rivals Exhibition, Tate Britain

The new exhibition highlights the rivalry and contrasting personalities of contemporary artists Joseph Mallord William Turner and John Constable, who lived in the 18th and 19th Century.

J.M.W. Turner (1775 – 1851)

“He was a genius of the first order—far the greatest painter that England has ever produced…”

~ Kenneth Clark, Art historian

Birth Chart

Turner had the Sun in Taurus, a classic sign for Fine Art.  There is more than a trace of the Warrior Archetype in his chart, with the Sun trine Mars, and the North Node conjunct Mars.  The Sun is also closely trine the North Node, indicating the Creator Archetype.  He had the Moon exactly sextile Mercury – a harmonious alliance between the imagination and the intellect.  Mercury was loosely conjunct Chiron – showing a problem-solving mind.  With Venus conjunct Uranus, he had an unusual relationship with society, and unique artforms, and his personality was described as eccentric. Venus square to the Nodal Axis suggests karma with the art world, which may include that with John Constable.

December

14th:

Sophie Kinsella and Joanna Trollope

Friends, and Sagittarian Storytellers

Sophie Kinsella (1969 – 2025)

“Every one of Sophie’s 40 million readers knew how funny and smart she was.”

~ Jenny Colgan

“Shopaholic” author Sophie Kinsella died this week of glioblastoma, at the tender age of 55.  She will be missed by her many readers, and earned the title “the queen of romantic comedy”, given to her by Jo Jo Moyes.

Birth Chart

Sophie, whose birthday was 12th December, was born with the Sun in Sagittarius – confirming last week’s Storyteller Archetype for this sign.  She died on 10th December, two days before her birthday. Friends found her joyful, a quality from her ruling planet Jupiter.  Her Sun was unaspected (showing a free spirit) except for a square to the Nodal Axis (a strong sense of destiny).  We have no birth time, but a noon chart reveals two exact Moon aspects, so even if she was born at the extremes of the day they may still be relevant…

Aspects

On Monday (29th) the North Node will be sextile with Mars in a dynamic sextile with Mars the North Node.  This is a positive expression of Warrior karma.  You may be able to get your message across directly and actively, in speaking your truth or setting an example.  Lines may be drawn (Mars has a short fuse at times, and is not suited to long-drawn out debate).  I am currently enjoying reading “The Power of Past Lives” by Steve Burgess, so make that a recommended read.

We have a square on Tuesday (30th) between Saturn and Mercury, which brings up mental weariness.  Is there a term for end of year weariness?  So much so that you may have to put your thought processes on the back burner for a while, trying meditation or gentle exercise instead.  This may give your mind a rest and a refresh or a reset.

2026

Thursday brings us a New Year, and a choice of whether or not to do any Resolutions!  It has been revealed that the youngsters are keener than the oldsters on the practice, though I am not sure that is true.  For myself, I am pretty vague on them, though.

On New Year’s Day, Neptune squares Mercury.  This can sometimes bring difficult weather patterns.  I don’t this is true for the UK for that day, but the US are suffering difficult conditions at the moment.  Some undefinable snag may be nagging at you.  If so, allow your subconscious to bring it up in its own time, but don’t shut up shop until you have identified the rum note.  Then you can deal with it, move on and let it go.  There could be some scandals in the news, too.  Don’t forget to operate from the optimum mindset of Neptune (compassion) rather than its underside of fear and paranoia.

Also that day, Mercury enters Capricorn, which is supportive of establishing sensible new habits and resolutions.  The mental mode of Capricorn is practicality, and systematic and methodical thinking. Mercury in Capricorn favours planning (so helps with planning events for next year. Official documentation may need to be worked on, forms to fill, authorities to interview, etc.  Mercury will be in Capricorn until 20th January.

Chiron is Stationary prior to going Direct on Friday (2nd) which is a helpful turning of the path on your healing journey.  If you are hospital visiting or having a health check up on that day, this development may help you see things in a new light, e.g. realizing the purpose behind the condition.  You may start to find new healing avenues.

The last day of the week, Saturday (3rd) provides us with a congenial conjunction between Venus and the Sun at 12 degrees Capricorn. If you are an artist or a musician, it is the day you can produce your best creative output or performance.  If neither, then love or money may be beneficiaries of this combination.

Also on that day, we have a Full Moon in Cancer – a high tide of emotion.  Tears may flow in private or public, as this is one of the most emotional of the Full Moons in the astrological year.  In your personal life, you may be torn between personal and professional loyalties.  Therefore it may be a suitable time to address your work/life balance.

As we turn into the New Year of 2026 I would like to wish all my readers a heartening and peaceful New Year, and healing for the World.

The week in bullet points:

  • Monday – dynamic karma
  • Tuesday – mental weariness
  • Thursday – mental confusion; then mental practicality
  • Friday – healing ways;
  • Saturday – love; emotional high tide
