Aspects for the week beginning 28 November 2010
Mercury squares Uranus today and it’s a day for battling out mental ideas. As many of the aspect dates this week are out of kilter with those in the U.S., I will try to provide both dates in today’s blog. Accordingly, this aspect took place yesterday in the U.S. Paul Harris in The Observer today reports about the religion debate between Tony Blair and Christopher Hitchens in Toronto. It was remarkable for Hitchens’ (atheist) clarity of thought: “Blair outlined the work that religious groups in Northern Ireland put in on bridging the ‘religious divide’ in order to work for peace. Hitchens did not allow that one to slip by… Then he delivered the punchline. ‘Where does the ”religious divide” come from?’ he asked to another round of laughter from the crowd.” They apparently both agree that the Iraq war was justified…Just something to think about while you are snowbound in the U.K. I have been wrestling with the question of which zodiac sign is represented by the animal totem Turkey. According to the “Medicine Cards” of Sams and Carson, Turkey represents the principle of “Give Away”: “People in modern-day society should study the noble turkey who sacrifices itself so that we may live.” In Norfolk, one of our few celebrities is Bernard Matthews the Turkey farmer, who died ironically on Thanksgiving. Looking at his chart, I feel that his Turkey mission is represented by his North Node conjunct Chiron in Taurus. Bernard Matthews contribution was to produce cheap poultry (Chiron conjunct North Node in Taurus being an economic solution). His catchword about his turkeys is a curious one, “Boo-i-ful”. It may represent his Sun/Venus conjunction in Aquarius, but strangely enough when I heard a clip from an interview on the radio, he was speaking in an impeccable BBC accent, and not the native Norfolk tongue which gave rise to “Boo-i-ful”. Like Gillian McKeith, still surviving down under in the Jungle on “I’m a Celebrity” I am a committed vegetarian, and so have never partaken of the fruits of Bernard Matthews’ life purpose. I am alone, I think, in feeling sorry for Gillian and thinking the public sadistic for voting her to do all those bush tucker trials. I think it is a backlash for her trying authoritatively (she has Moon/Venus conjunct Pluto in Virgo) to make us eat healthily. She has a very strict chart, and can become scapegoated with Saturn in Capricorn square her Nodal Axis. Tomorrow (Monday 29th) Mars is square Jupiter, so there is still a lot of aggro going on, but more good humoured slapstick than the serious intellectual divisions of today. You may be caught between two passions or enthusiasms. On Tuesday (30th) [29th in the U.S. and Toronto] Venus enters Scorpio, so the heart will decide between the passions and enthusiasms. On Wednesday (1st December) [31st in the U.S. and Toronto] Mercury also changes signs, from Sagittarius to Capricorn, sobering up our mental outlook and making us decisive and realistic about our plans. This paves the way later in the day for Mercury to catch Venus in a sextile, making it an excellent time for a tete-a-tete over coffee or dinner, and for literary events such as book launches. Co-authors should make it a diary date. On Thursday (2nd) Mars sextiles Neptune and folks will be much more sensitive towards each other than at the start of the week. They may consider that in order to co-author their books, they will need to compromise in order to take into account the other’s needs. Book titles could be subtly changed, e.g. from “How religion informed war decisions” to “How we agreed about the war”, or “How I felt it was important to promote meat-eating” to “How it is important for people to choose whether or not to eat meat”. On Friday (3rd) Mars sextiles in turn Chiron in the Neptune/Chiron conjunction, and healing may be experienced on an energetic level. Whereas Thursday’s sextile favours an emphasis on spiritual energy, the Friday energy will be more directly focussed on healing and problem-solving. However, there could be crisis involved, because Mars squares Uranus later on Friday and that is a very incident-prone type of energy. You may have everything as you like it, but someone may come along and want to do it differently. The week ends with a conjunction of Mercury and the North Node on Saturday (4th) [3rd in U.S. and Toronto]. Life may point out to you a detail you may have missed or chosen to ignore, and a factor which could make all the difference. It may set you wondering on all those intellectual dilemmas all over again…

It feels a challenging sort of week, battling with the snow on my car this morning setting the scene. Depending on whether we get any more or not will colour the following days. Meanwhile Lana, it’s amazing to follow the aspects and how they vary between here and the USA. I have to ring my bell of alarm however at your compassion for Gillian McKeith. Me – I don’t think she deserves much sympathy and anyhow she hasn’t done any of the trials. Useless woman. Sorry, I hate to dissent, and I truly appreciate your insights as ever, love Sarah.
I think the cold makes me grumpy…..

Sarah –
Dissention is good but I would respectfully submit that more of why you feel she is “useless” and what rang your alarm might be more informative for the argument. (Since, knowing Lana, she’s already deep in your chart and in Gillian’s, and preparing a ‘why-you-might-feel-that’ commentary). You are speaking your truth, which is positive for you. And “argument”, when approached properly, is a wonderful chance to educate each other. So you go girl, even if it IS just the cold making you grumpy 🙂

Lana –
Thanks for the US dates, helps us stay on track (sometimes I forget to translate from UK to US, then I re-read at the end of the week and say “oh, duh, that was Wed not Thurs, NOW it makes sense”).
An interesting week ahead, especially since I’m expecting a quote from my landlord for expanding my clinic. The “boyz” next door have a smaller suite than mine and they’re leaving, so I’m hoping to be able to take over that suite. It would mean NO MORE NEIGHBOURS (at least not any by my treatment rooms) and it would mean three treatment rooms (up from two), a business office (or a rental for a mental health specialist – that’s still up in the air), a lunchroom/records storage room AND my office – and it’s not that much bigger. The leasing manager was trying to get the info to me before he went on holiday but couldn’t get his contractors out to look at the walls. He returns Tuesday and I expect to have people out poking and prodding and measuring all week. Hopefully I can afford to do this, especially since it might be YEARS before I get a chance to try again.
Bear’s probably facing an interesting week also, since he’s trying to wrap up the report on his year-long project. I’ll have him read your blog tomorrow, hoping that his head will clear by then. He’s spent the whole holiday with a head cold, poor thing. I’m fighting it off, so far somewhat successfully.
I’m also hunkering down to do some blog/article writing. I had signed up for the National Novel Writers Month (November) – but haven’t gotten anywhere NEAR the 50000 words. I also am trying to write 100 articles in 100 days, which ends in December – and again, not really hitting that mark. But with all that energy around me, I have been researching writer’s software and testing out ways to get my research from paper to computer, so it’s handy whatever computer I’m working on.
I’d say wish me luck, but I suspect you’d just point me to my chart and your blogs and tell me to be getting on with it!
*hugs* from the US

ooooeeeee Lana what a thought provoking, grumpy response has been evoked by your blog this week…. I’m talking about me and Sarah!!! Yes, I join Sarah on the sofa to complain about Gillian Mc Keith….. well, no in all honesty, I’m not complaining but simply registering my utter dislike of her legalistic views which she is of course quite entitled to have but …. that’s where I draw the line. Having seen her on TV bully obese children I feel completely lacking in generosity towards her! However…. now that I have read your blog, I am led to lift my white flag and say, she’s human like the rest of us.
Thank you again for a very interesting read… Hi Sarah and Dia too!!!

The reason I don’t have much sympathy for Gillian is because I have read Ben Goldacre’s Bad Science which has an eye opening account of her vindictive litigiousness.

Hi Daphne, that sounds like an interesting book. One thing I have realised once again is that I should ‘never judge a book by its cover’ and by that, in this case, I am saying by the popularity of G mc’s products. I suspect there may well be a nose dive in sales at this point. “vindictive litigiousness.” I like that! 🙂

I can’t comment on G Mc’s work as I have totally avoided it. My feelings about her are based on watching her antics on Celebrity in jungle programme. I can’t describe myself as a vegetarian but hate the things they do to insects and animals like rats on this prog, so feel a bit guilty about watching but don’t much. Perhaps she never intended to get involved in the ‘tasks’ but I guess happy to get her fee for being there. It seemed to me she lied about her phobias and that’s why I am happy to describe her as useless. I do feel a bit sorry for someone with her character, but my sympathy is better extended for the deserving. Wise-one Lana tells me she has been evicted, but I would have had respect if she had gracefully retired, ha, as if.

Ooh I do love a bit of controversy.
Sarah; Gillian could not “retire gracefully” as she described herself as “not a quitter” (despite quitting the difficult trials!). I’m fully prepared to admit I would not be able to face any of those trials myself, no matter what the financial inducement, but then, knowing the format why would you volunteer in the first place? I LOVE Tracey though and I’m glued to the programme this year (not having bothered for previous series) much to the husband’s great annoyance as I’m preventing him watching anything more highbrow!

Hi Folks!
Sorry to have been absent so far for the debate! I haven’t had the space to reply, until now. I have listened carefully, but my heart is unchanged! I almost wrote to her daughter while she was in there. I know Gillian has been lyin’, cheatin’ and smugglin’ and I don’t approve or condone these things she does, but I still feel sorry for her. Sarah you threw me a line, by saying: “I do feel a bit sorry for someone with her character”. I feel that she may be weakened by her vegan diet (even though I am drawn to veganism and rawfoodism) which takes great mindfulness to get right, and maybe the rock salt is surplus to requirements because if she had a really sensitive palate she would not need it. When I wrote the blog Mercury was at the Galactic Centre squaring Uranus (controversy) and Mars was transiting my Sun which was also squared by Jupiter. These were provoking action, but I was deliberate about speaking my truth. What I have learned from this is that I can be controversial sometimes (my natal Mercury opposite Uranus) and speak my truth even when I know “I am alone” in this view. And I have been so glad to hear all of you equally speaking your truth! I have been chuckling these last few days even as I commuted to work in the snow (filling in for an old colleague)!
Sarah – Thank you for your clarity! I think you have achieved it, especially with your second comment. I agree Gillian should have honourably retired, as she wasn’t really playing the game.
Dia – Glad you found the U.S. dates helpful. Good luck for the work changes – will you have to clone yourself or will you be taking on more staff? The career expansion is Jupiter going into your 10th House. Have you had Gillian McKeith in the U.S.? And do you have a form of “I’m a Celebrity” in the Jungle?
Flick – I agree with you about the bullying of children (Jamie Oliver probably does it better)…
What I used to like about Gillian’s programme was the bit where she showed you the table of radiantly coloured fruit and vegetables, which went alongside the rawfoodism I was drawn to, and still am.
I feel the same way about some of the militant childrearing gurus we have now. An adult can so easily seem like a bully to a child.
Daph – You have become so much more well-informed since you read Ben Goldacre’s book. I almost dare not read it but know I should…And I agree that on this occasion controversy has been fun. Do you mean Stacey? I think it is all too easy to admire the likes of strong men Linford and Shaun (stoically bitten by a snake) but like you I would not be able to do most of the trials, such eat jungle creatures, or drive a digger. However, I don’t think I would emulate Gillian’s histrionics or fainting. You’ve made some great points!
Thank you all of you, for the entertainment…
Love
Lana
