U.S. Mid-terms and other Elections

“I feel the world has an opportunity now to unite around the issue that is affecting us all and that’s the cost of living”

~ Andy Burnham

Most of us were pleasantly surprised at the outcome of the U.S. mid-term elections last week, and some of us wonder if the recent left-wing successes in Serbia and Brazil are pointing to a turning of the tide, against dictatorships.  Last night, Benjamin Nethanyahu was brushed aside after a tight election result with Gadi Eisenkot, when the Israeli President asked the rival to form a government.  There seems to be a loosening of power for Trump and his ally Nethanyahu.  Their combined grip on the world affects us all, and Andrew Rawnsley however, writing in the Observer this morning, warns us that “Trump’s humiliation should worry Farage, but it’s foolish to predict the end of populism.” I am looking at the transits of some of the key players, but also how the upcoming karmic Jupiter/Mars/South Node conjunction in mid-November may affect their charts.

Triple conjunction

The karmic Jupiter/Mars/South Node conjunction occurs at 25/26 degrees Leo on 15th/16th November (i.e. around the time of the next blog next Sunday/Monday).  If this degree is important in your chart, take especial note, and if you know where 25/6 degrees Leo falls in  your chart, you will see where in your life it will play out.

Donald Trump

The American people have resoundingly let it be know that they have seen enough, and had enough of their erratic President.

Donald’s transits at the mid-terms were pretty dire, and include:-

Saturn square his natal Mercury in 11th House – a time of worry, though he may not show it

The Nodal Axis square his MC/IC Axis – karmic effect on his career and future.  Chickens coming home to roost.

South Node on his Mars already – belligerency and fighting spirit out of habit

An interesting fact about the synastry between Trump and Nethanyahu, bearing in mind their joint mission of the war in Iran, is that both of them have Mars at 26 degrees Leo (i.e. conjunct) so on a war footing they are absolutely in cahoots.  And the karma around this may be significant around mid-November with the triple conjunction falling on their Marses.  It reminds me so much of the Bush/Blair initiative in Iraq in 2003, an ill-fated pact and war with no regard to the consequences. [They didn’t have conjoined Marses…that would be too pat!]  26 degrees Leo falls in Donald Trump’s 12th House, traditionally known as the House of Self-Undoing.  Mars and Jupiter combined could lead to exaggeration and recklessness.

No one expects Donald Trump to bear the results with grace.  He is likely to be if anything even more unpredictable and vengeful, but the next election will take place in 2028, when the already ailing president is not likely to be able to enter the contest.  In the intervening time, Democrats will challenge Trump, and Trump will veto, so there may be much stagnation.

U.S. Chart

Going on to the U.S. chart…The transits are not so dire, suggesting the outcome was good for the country.  The effect for Trump is not the same as that for the country.  There is:-

Neptune square natal Venus in 1st House – an expression of disillusionment

Chiron square natal Pluto in 8th House – a type of ending

Saturn sextile natal Uranus rising/Ascendant – a step towards bringing back the original ideal of “the Land of the Free”

Mars trine natal Chiron – a step towards healing

Mars sextile natal Mars in 1st House – the population fighting back

Benjamin Nethanyahu

The Israelis went to the polls on 27th October, and many of the transits for that time, and the mid-terms for the U.S. (bearing in mind how important is his relationship with Trump) are similar.

He has a dismal set of transits, including:-

Uranus semi-sextile his natal Uranus – a bit of a shock to the system

Chiron opposite his Sun – a major crisis and trauma, a wounding

Saturn opposite his natal Mercury in 10th House – similar to Trump’s Saturn square to his Mercury; a time of worry, especially in connection with his status and reputation

A synastric note here: Trump and Nethanyahu’s Mercuries are exactly squared.  Though their energies (Marses) are exactly aligned, their thought processes are different

Mars sextile his natal Moon – he may not be losing his fighting spirit, he has too much at stake, and the result of his election was almost neck and neck

The Jupiter/Mars/South Node 26 Leo of mid-November will be semi-sextile his natal Midheaven in 10th House – the karma will directly affect his status and reputation

Like Trump, the South Node is already on his Mars in 9th, indicating belligerency towards other nations.  For his election results, the suggestion is the reaping of his karma of aggression.

The mid-November triple conjunction falls in his 9th House of foreign relations.  This area is already at a nadir, so that might be highlighted or emphasized next weekend.

His opponent Gadi Eisenkot has 45 days to try to form a government.  Is there a strong indication of his demise at some point?  Around 24th March 2027 he could be called to account, with Saturn arriving at his North Node.  So he may cling on to power for a little while [he continues to be at the helm until a new government is formed].

Israel Chart

As with Benjamin Nethanyahu’s transits, they are similar for the Israeli elections and the U.S. Mid-terms.  The country seems currently in for a long period of transition, which may result in yet another election.  Some of the transits reflect the opportunity for change:

Uranus sextiles the Israel Moon – an appetite for change

Saturn opposes the natal Neptune in the 12th House – demoralisation, in the House of Self-Undoing

Mars square natal Chiron in 1st House – A wounding and bruising, inability to heal

Neptune sextile natal Midheaven in 10th House – uncertainty about future course, unless a spiritual and moral high ground can be found.

North Node trine natal Uranus in 8th House – A karmic indication of change.  The karma may have swung to such an extreme, as to make a change possible.

It is worth noting that Israel’s own Mars (the impulse to fight) is just two degrees away from the conjunction of Donald and Benjamin’s Marses.

Gadi Eisenkot

He has been asked to form a government by President Herzog.  We do not have a birth time for him, so there are some nuances in the picture that are unavailable, such as the placings of the planets in their House areas.

It is a testing and challenging time for Gadi, with difficult transits (surprising in the light of his near success).  It may be that a few months into the future his transit picture may be clearer, and hopefully more encouraging.

He has Pluto quincunx his natal Pluto – a testing time

Neptune square his natal Jupiter – his hopes complicated by uncertainty, and

Mars opposite his Uranus – a danger of imbalance

We do not know where the mid-November triple conjunction falls in his chart.  However, a delectable thought is that if he was born exactly at midday, the conjunction would fall exactly on his Ascendant!

In June 2027, Jupiter will transit his natal North Node, where he may reap some favourable karma.  Bearing in mind that he is a hardliner, but at least he is not Nethanyahu. But he has thus far refused to work with the successful Arab political bodies.

Iran Chart

Who knows who is really operating Iran at the moment, who is alive, dead or injured in the top echelons of the government?  Therefore I can only look at the Iranian chart itself.  The U.S. and Israel thought that taking on Iran would be easy-peasy.  They are bloodied but unbowed, and stronger for strengthening their asset of their power in the Strait of Hormuz.  So it is not surprising that the result for the mid-terms of the loss of power of their main protagonist opponent Donald Trump, is astonishingly positive!

I won’t provide interpretations, but it suffices to say that every one of these current transits is a positive one:- Pluto sextiles the Iranian Ascendant, at the end of the 10th House; Neptune trines its natal Jupiter; Uranus sextiles its Ascendant, on the 3rd House cusp; Saturn sextiles its natal Mars in the 11th House; Jupiter trine natal Venus in the 9th House; Mars sextiles its natal Pluto in the 7th House; the North Node sextiles its natal Venus in 9th House;

The Jupiter/Mars/South Node conjunction will be trine its natal Venus in 9th House, which will be favourable to international relations, somehow.

Abdul El-Sayed

The mid-terms threw up some immense surprises.  For example, who knew that Elon Musk’s 150 million dollars would not be able to buy Texas?

Donald Trump was especially scathing (and fearful) of who he dubbed a jihadist, the Democratic candidate for Michigan, muslim Abdul El-Sayed, who succeeded there.

He is an intense and combative Scorpio, with 5 planets in that sign.

His Jupiter and Mars (an upbeat couple) are in the political sign of Capricorn.

He is exceptionally positive (Sun exactly sextile Jupiter).  And he is a verbal Warrior (Mars sextile Mercury).

Like Eisenkot, we do not have his birth time, and also like Eisenkot, his transits at this time are quite challenging, but Scorpio above all other signs can transform situations.  He has three significant squares:

Pluto square his natal Pluto – a major astrological cycle for his age group (he is born in 1984).  If anyone can handle Pluto, the ruling planet of Scorpio, he can.

Saturn squares his natal Jupiter – forcing him to make realistic his vision of hope (in his victory speech, he emphasized and celebrated Michigan “choosing hope”.

And Mars squares his natal Mercury – bringing out that fighting talk that he has natally in his chart.

He will be one to watch!

That’s the extent of my researches this morning…It would have been interesting to look at the effect of the mid-terms on Zelensky, Putin and Xi Jinping going forward, but…enough already!

“The defeat of the Republicans had Donald J. Trump written all over it: his decision to launch a war with Iran without a plan to win it, his choice to impose tariffs on trading partners, his accumulation of wealth in office for himself, his family and friends, his authorization of armed I.C.E. agents to prowl American cities, and his abuse of power in service of himself, brought on a historic shellacking at the polls.”

Aspects

Our aspect journey this week begins tomorrow (Monday, 9th) at 16 degrees Scorpio, and it’s a New Moon.  We are enabled to sense where we need to place our intentions, be it on financial matters (a Scorpio province) or sending healing or alms and donations for troubled world areas.  This is one of the most potent New Moons of the year.  It is a good time to re-set your intentions about life, and to create a new beginning.  Re-setting our economy is part of that, take note Andy Burnham and John Healey. There may be a certain amount of letting go required, before the fresh start can be established.  You might find yourself being ruthless with your de-cluttering, in accordance with your recent re-evaluation of the past.

The next day, Tuesday 10th, Venus sextiles Mars, a largely enjoyable entanglement.  This aspect is given over to pleasure and indulgence, and maybe romance is also on the cards.  Art will have vigour, and movement will have artistry or elegance under this influence.  Social plans should flourish. As experienced specifically at breakfast time, you could make breakfast indulgently elaborate on this occasion, in the manner of Nigella Lawson.

Wednesday (11th) offers us the beginnings of the triple conjunction mentioned in the main blog.  This will be the Jupiter/South Node component, at 25 degrees 28 minutes of Leo (check that out, if you can, for its placement in your own natal chart).  Providing you are in credit karmically, this could be a wonderful pay back for past altruism and good deeds, resurfacing of old talents (even from past lives), or the return of old relationships.  For corrupt politicians, it could spell a nightmare exaggeration of their behaviour and the consequences of past actions.

Mercury is Stationary prior to turning Direct on Friday (13th), so if you are affected by Mercury Retrograde and/or you are superstitious by nature, or feeling paranoid at the time, the turn of the planet will be helpful.  I am not always affected by Mercury Retrograde, but in this last period (of three weeks) an old mobile phone of mine died, leading to uncomfortable repercussions.  Things could be made easier from a technological point of view.  There can be some alleviation of recent communication glitches.  There may also be a turning point in your travel plans. Hopefully, if you have projects waiting to happen of a literary or technical nature, this may also be a go-ahead for you.  If you have been holding back on communication, you may feel the push to move forward again with it.  My publishers are indicating that the third volume of my trilogy “The Quiet Office – Windows to the Future” is nearly ready to go, and I am also awaiting the printing of its sister set of Future Life Archetype cards.  Mercury Direct may pave the way for them.

Finally, on Saturday (14th) Venus will be Stationary prior to turning Direct, very early in the morning.  As a Venusian (by Ascendant and Moon Sign and by conjunction with my Sun ruler), I have really felt the pull back by Venus Retrograde in the last few weeks.  So that’s another planet off the Retrograde list.  In the retrograde period, relationships may have been tested and put through their paces.  You may have realized the true worth of some of your relationships.  You can pause, breathe and relax into that knowledge.  That doesn’t necessarily mean relationships will suddenly be easy, but you will have learned something important for moving forward.

The week in bullet points:

  • Monday – new beginning
  • Tuesday – sensuality
  • Wednesday – good karma if earned
  • Friday – communications eased
  • Saturday – relationships eased
