Aspects for the week beginning 1 June 2014

Heroes of the Week

Maya Angelou

“But a bird that stalks

down his narrow cage

can seldom see through

his bars of rage

his wings are clipped and

his feet are tied

so he opens his throat to sing.”

~ Maya Angelou

It is ironic that Maya Angelou, author of “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” has died in the same week that Michael Gove has pushed through his  recommendations that British schoolchildren should only study British texts – a retrograde step if ever I heard one.  We need to hear voices from other parts of the world, and expand our consciousness, not to narrow it

When I was at University in the early 1970s I studied American Negro history (it might be called something else now).  This included the literature of Langston Hughes, Richard Wrght and James Baldwin, but it was just after Maya Angelou had published her first autobiographical novel and before she appeared on a syllabus.  Her work was on the curriculum by the time my eldest daughter studied A Level English.

Neptune rising in her chart makes for a highly sensitive individual who may have difficulties with boundaries, especially early in life.  Her Ascendant is in Leo (at 6 foot tall) and she was a performer in many facets of the Arts.

Her courage (shown by Mars opposite the Ascendant) is combined with her great sensitivity (Mars/Descendant opposing  Neptune/Ascendant).  This warriorship gives rise to the various themes of her writing and activism:  the pain and injustice of racism, and rape, and her philosophies of endurance and affirmation of life.  It was James Baldwin himself who encouraged her to write her first and seminal work.

Two other conjunctions stand out in her chart:-

Sun conjunct Jupiter – a positive philosophy

Mercury conjunct Venus – the Writer Archetype

Two wonderfully expressive conjunctions, but nothing came easily  because both are “caged” (Sun/Jupiter is squared by Pluto, and Mercury/Venus is squared by Saturn).

However, she was destined to endear herself to humanity, with Moon (the people) trine her North Node (karmic mission).

Her Saturn in Sagittarius is another metaphor for the caged (Saturn) bird of freedom (Sagittarius). Her work and her message are very relevant this year as Saturn reaches the end of Scorpio and enters Sagittarius on 23rd December.  I remember when Saturn last entered Sagittarius in 1985 it registered instantly with me as a sense of wings being clipped, a pinning down of that natural Sagittarius expansion.  All things of course happen for a reason and in right timing, we discover later.  Such an experience can help concentrate (Saturn)  the higher mind (Sagittarius) and produce literature which in Maya Angelou’s case  carries the essence of wisdom. Her first book would therefore make an ideal stocking filler at the end of this year.

“You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them…” ~ Maya Angelou

Stephen Sutton

A very different hero here in the U.K. this week found a few minutes of fame at the end of his life, but made a huge impact.  Stephen Sutton, dying of cancer in his hospital bed, endeared himself to the masses on social media, and raised 4 and a half million pounds in a short space of time for the teenage cancer charity he sponsored (The Teenage Cancer Trust).  He received a huge send off last week, with a wave of thumbs raised.  His attitude to life was extremely positive, and he was relentlessly joyful about life.  Humour was a marked characteristic of his communications, along with courage.   Like Maya Angelou, his soul was irrepressible.

In looking at his chart we can start with his Sun sign Sagittarius, an equivalent to Maya Angelou’s  Sun closely conjunct Jupiter: a naturally positive thinker, with a philosophical view of life.  Mars squares exactly Jupiter in his chart, giving him extremely enthusiastic energy.  Love is his karmic mission (Venus closely conjunct North Node) in Scorpio (achieved just before his death).  Jupiter in its own sign of Sagittarius (magnifying the positivity) conjuncts Pluto in its own sign of Scorpio (emphasizing the death experience, as a vehicle for the positivity to flow).  This conjunction is enormously powerful, and is squared by Mars, showing the poignancy and pain of its expression in his life.  Chiron squares his natal Sun/Mercury, indicating the severity of his wound which took him at such a young age.  Pluto was exactly sextile his North Node when he died, showing that he had profoundly expressed his mission.

“Life isn’t measured in time, it’s measured in achievements” ~ Stephen Sutton

Aspects

The aspects this week consist of two sextiles followed by a change of direction by our friend Mercury.

The first sextile appears on Wednesday (4th) so the intervening time can be spent, if you wish, making the most of Saturday’s (31st) trine between Mars and the Sun and preparing for Wednesday’s sextile between Venus and Neptune.  Purposeful action can occupy you till Monday therefore, and then a more passive reception of inspiration from Monday to Wednesday.  The crossover moment between may be characterized by a blend of the two: burn-out from overdoing things, and a quiet insistence from the Soul to sit still and listen.

So on to Wednesday (4th) and the first of the two sextiles, that between Venus and Neptune.  This favours any activities which are Venusian in nature that you wish to take up, then incorporating a spiritual dimension.  Venus represents a wide range of pursuits and qualities, and its heightening by Neptune creates a variety of possibilities:

Love (Venus) combined with Compassion (Neptune)

Money (Venus) with Limitlessness (Neptune)

Gardening (Venus) with Spiritual awareness (Neptune)

Relationship (Venus) with a Spiritual bond (Neptune)

Artistic creation (Venus) with Inspiration (Neptune)

Musical expression (Venus) with Upliftment (Neptune)

You may already know what path you are approaching for Wednesday and where you can look for the source of spiritual energy or input.

A different sextile (Sun with Uranus) presents on Friday (6th).  There is a strong creative theme from the Sun, but it is combined with a desire for change (Uranus).  This can produce innovation in Engineering, I.T.,  original creativity, stunning performance art, and high energy for your chosen activity.  It’s also good for networking.  Pass the star shaped canapés, please!

Saturday (7th) brings a reversal of direction by Mercury, standing still before turning retrograde.  Make a special effort to express your communications clearly for the rest of the month.

For a refreshing take on Mercury retrograde read Larry Schwimmer’s post on the subject:

The week in bullet points:

  • Wednesday – art and inspiration
  • Friday – creativity and originality
  • Saturday – trying to get your communications straight

Aspects for the week beginning 25 May 2014

Pope Francis (Update)

I found it interesting that Pope Francis launched his latest middle eastern initiative at the constructive trine between Jupiter and Saturn.  It is as though he has been raiding the astrological archives in the Vatican to best use.

I last looked at his chart when he became Pope, and he certainly seems to be shaping up to being the most no-nonsense, hands-on and grounded Pope in living history.

Recap on his Chart

In a recap from my blog of 17/3/14 my first impression of his chart included:

“Sun in Sagittarius is traditionally the sign for conventional religion, and pontification.  His Sun is close to the galactic centre, so he may be aligned with spiritual realities, and it is conjunct the North Node (karmic mission) which confirms that his path is a true one (for him at least).  He is comfortable with religious power.  There is a down-to-earth quality about him, and if he is of a certain evolutionary level it may be significant in his life and works that Earth is the esoteric ruler of Sagittarius.”

Current Mission

The Pope is travelling to Jordan and Israel, and visiting even-handedly the occupied territories and the Jewish Holocaust memorial at Yad Vashem.  What I love though is that he is taking with him a Rabbi and an Imam (colleagues from Argentina) to foster religious relations.  Religious Unity is one of my pet hobby horses!

Friday’s Guardian stated that “The Vatican is publicly insisting that the main point of the trip is to mend fences between Catholic and Orthodox Christianity”.  Internal unity within Christianity is important, but I am hoping for some unity to happen between religions, too.

However, he may upset the applecart altogether as he is known for speaking his mind, and has arranged his itinerary to honour the Palestinian factions first, whereas the custom for Popes in the past has been to visit Israel first.  If he alienates some parties, an opportunity may be missed for being an agent of religious unity.  But his political concerns may take priority at some point.

Current Transits

The transits to Pope Francis’ chart are most interesting, in that they actually do provide support for his mission.  The balancing Jupiter-Saturn trine at the inception of his journey keys perfectly into his Neptune (spirituality) which sextiles both planets at their midpoint.  This is an ideal line up in which to attempt to balance different faiths and their interests.  In addition, the North Node (world karmic interest) sextiles his natal Sun, so this sort of work is part of what he is here in incarnation to do.  However, his Sagittarian fire may still cause problems as Jupiter will be squaring his Mars, so he may be at the centre of some volatility at some point, and safety is an issue (9000 police are on the case to protect him).

Conclusion

The Pope’s trip may not produce any significant shift in the intransigeant and long search for peace in the area, but bringing people of different faiths together  I feel is always worth doing and will shift the evolution in the right direction, making some people think more deeply and widely.

Aspects

You can bask in the constructive energies of Saturday’s Jupiter–Saturn trine (or Grand Trine with Chiron) for at least a couple more days.

On Tuesday (27th), the South Node conjuncts Venus, so there may be a nostalgic flavour of revisiting old loves and lives.  For some however there may be a question of literally paying back money owed!

Wednesday (28th) continues fine at first, with a sextile between Venus and Mercury, which you may remember popped up on Thursday 15th and as it was not so long ago, you may remember what you did with it.  Maybe you wrote a masterpiece or composed a symphony, or said soothing words to the neighbours.  If it worked, then you may repeat the winning formula.  These two planets have been rubbing shoulders ever since 15th, so fine words may have been bubbling under the surface all this time.

A New Moon at 7 degrees Gemini will follow on that day, and enable you to anchor a new initiative which may be based on teaching, communication, or transport, or broadcasting.

However, just before midnight the Sun squares Neptune, which may or may not affect your earlier successes in the day.  Confusion may reign, and if earlier high-flown words were based on illusion, then actions based on them may collapse.  So make sure earlier communication is based on authenticity.

On Thursday (29th) Venus enters Taurus, and it will at least be easier to create artistic and musical work which is heartfelt and beautiful.  Venus is not at ease in the previous sign of Aries, simply because it doesn’t like to be rushed.  Creativity can now take on its true rhythm.

Another planet changes sign later in the morning, when Mercury enters Cancer.  Though it is leaving its natural sign of Gemini where it speaks freely, Mercury in Cancer is able now to translate emotions into words, so you will get another side of the picture, and not just the mental insight.  You will get the colour of mood, for instance, if you are constructing characters in your latest novel.  This may be welcome if you have felt you were just describing cardboard cut-outs in the early chapters, and may inspire you to go back over your work and fill in the missing nuances,  fleshing out your characters.

The last aspect of the week, appearing on Saturday (31st) is an all male character, Sun trine Mars.  No need for nuance there, or feminine wiles,  this aspect will tell it like it is.  As a trine, it is a positive aspect, but it will favour males and the male approach to life.  The “man of the house” will symbolically if not literally take over the remote control, and insist on the viewing of some sporting highlight.  It would probably be best if women had a ladies’ night out rather than resist or insist on equality.  It may not be possible to express the feminine energy within the context of this strong and uncompromising aspect.  So I recommend a lads’ night in with the lager, and a hen night out decked in handbags and glad rags.  That’s right, I recommend stereotyping on Saturday.

The week in bullet points:

  • Tuesday – relationship karma
  • Wednesday – favours writing, a new beginning, then confusion
  • Thursday – good for art and music, and literary imagination
  • Saturday – male bonding

Aspects for the week beginning 18 May 2014

Local Elections 2014

On Thursday 22nd May the U.K. has local elections, about a year ahead probably of a General Election.  Two polls (Guardian/ICM and Lord Ashcroft’s) this week showed the Conservative Party inching ahead, with Labour sliding down, and with UKIP overtaking the LibDems to emerge as the third party of the four.

I thought therefore I would look at their astrological standing for next Thursday, to see if that added to the picture or clarified, substantiated or even diverged from the picture given by the polls, which have historically often been a true marker of the tide of opinion, but sometimes been spectacularly wrong.

United Kingdom Chart

A set of Local Elections is not such a huge deal as to affect the United Kingdom chart greatly, but the U.K. chart looks upbeat on the day.  Uranus trines the U.K. Sun/Mercury,  the North Node trines its Mars, and Mars trines its Ascendant.  This suggests a confident, clear vote with an element of surprise, and also a better turnout than might be expected, given all the talk of apathy and disillusionment.  This pattern may be more likely to benefit the Conservatives and UKIP than Labour and the LibDems, which supports the finding of the polls.

David Cameron and the Conservative Party

David Cameron and George Osborne are emphasizing an economic recovery, which may be impressing some sections of society, but not others, so it is just as well that all sections of society have a vote according to their own experience of economic and other forces in our society.  The Guardian said this week: “…it begins to look as though the voters are more confident about the economy” according to these new polls.

The current Jupiter-Saturn trine scrubs up well for Cameron, as each planet forms a sextile with his Pluto (power).  He could be smug, but Uranus, as with the Scottish referendum in September, is opposing his Sun, so something could upset the apple cart, though it may be a private matter.

Recent vacillations in his moral compass or U-turns may be reflecting that opposition of Uranus to his Sun: the recent declaration of religious sensibilities where previously he had declared otherwise, and the recent support of Gary Barlow in his tax evasion in contrast to his stance regarding Jimmy Carr who was in a similar situation last year.  The opposition is set to continue for a while longer, as it is still an issue around the time of the Scottish referendum.

Transits to the chart of the Conservative Party on Thursday tell a different story: Neptune squares its Mercury (confusion and foggy outcomes), Pluto squaring its Neptune (complexity and drama) and Jupiter opposite its Ascendant (over-confidence).  Neptune’s prominence suggests there may be a scandal erupting around the same time, which may distract from its shiny, upcoming gloss.

Ed Miliband and the Labour Party

Much as I would love Ed Miliband to acquire the required charisma overnight, his personal popularity does not seem to grow easily, judging by the period of his tenure of the helm of the Labour party since September 2010.  He doesn’t seem to have found a winning style, or a position within the political spectrum which could help his party to be more appealing to the public.  However, I find him to be more sincere and genuine in many ways than the other three party leaders, and being a Prime Minister is a different task than being an opposition leader, where combat is a major requirement.  He is at heart more of a true Socialist than the others, and more so than his New Labour brother, and needs to trust his heart more, even if it does not provide him with election wins, at least we would have a real Labour party.

Thursday does not look promising for him, as he has Mars transiting his Uranus (a lot of tension, perhaps shock, and the need to look after his health and possibly also his safety).  Another transit of concern is Neptune conjunct his Mars: an influence which peaked just over a month ago, and arises acutely in the middle of August,  continuing into next year.  This is also vacillating, but in a slightly different way from David Cameron’s transit.  His resolve and will are being tested, with people trying to pull him in one direction or another, so that he really needs to realize who he is and what he stands for.  Perhaps he is more suited to academia.

He has acquired one fan recently though.  My 87-year old mother-in-law watched him making a speech a few weeks ago, where he was not going to tolerate zero hour contracts, and because it is an issue she cares passionately about, she intends to vote Labour for the first time.

Neptune will be square to the Labour Party Jupiter next Thursday, and that may indicate that hopes of a boost will be unfounded,   an unrealistic perception of its own chances.  That does not provide encouragement, therefore, but a lot can happen in a year!

Nick Clegg and the LibDem Party

Punch drunk from his scapegoating by the Conservatives in the Coalition, and his crushing defeat by Nigel Farage in the recent debates on immigration, plus plummeting ratings in the polls, Nick Clegg’s fortunes seem to be at an all-time low.  His party may be a much diminished political force by the next General Election.  He is a Capricorn, the sign of the Politician, but also of the scapegoat, and a sign which can have negative press.  He seems, in taking the political power that was offered to him, to have at the same time given it away.  Every avenue he turns to in order to try to free himself in advance of next yer’s election seems to land him in ridicule, for one reason or another, and it looks as though he is clutching at straws.  His party, which for many years was seen as a credible alternative to the two main parties, proved not yet ready for office or not ready to be in a Coalition with a strident and confident main party.  Would they have fared better with the Labour Party?  As with Ed Milliband, I have a little sympathy for Nick Clegg, and see him as well meaning in some respects.

His personal transits do not show up strongly at all next Thursday, almost indicating that his presence in the race is an irrelevance, or does not make much impact on his life.  A sextile to his Ascendant from Mars does leave him a little dignity, however.  He may take comfort in small gains or small mercies, and be able to hold his head up high personally.

The chart of the LibDem Party has an interesting set of transits.  Pluto sextiles its Sun, indicating they cannot be discounted.  Perhaps they are due a revamp, and may choose a new leader imminently.  The South Node transits their Venus, which may show a karmic change, and a new face of the Party.  Though the Labour Party might be contemplating a new leader, it is the LibDem Party which has transits more likely to lead to such an event.  Perhaps Nick Clegg, backed into a corner, may himself resign.

Nigel Farage and the UKIP Party

And so to the man who has the other parties on their toes, and in the palm of his hand at this time: Nigel Farage.  Now I have to be careful what I say here, because I know he has a huge following out there, rising all the time, and I lost a friend last year over the subject of UKIP.  I do feel that his party has inherited all the baggage of the BNP and the National Front, and that despite Nigel Farage’s claims that his party are not racist, the remarks that have been flying from some loose cannons are undeniably racist.  He seems to have the charisma that Ed Milliband and Nick Clegg lack, but the party does not have the substance and the policies to sustain a real political role.  Indeed the Guardian reports that  a high percentage of the councillors elected in last year’s local elections have quit their posts.  But for now, Farage’s bubble has not burst, and he is a force to be reckoned with.

Chiron trine his natal Neptune is still protecting that bubble, but it is possible that Pluto squaring his natal Sun (22nd January 2015) may burst the bubble.  However, you can’t underestimate his powers of endurance after his survival of a plane crash at the last General Election.

Transits to the UKIP chart are most odd, and may be mixed, with upsets either way.  Jupiter opposes the UKIP Uranus and Neptune, while Uranus opposes the UKIP Jupiter.

Summing Up

Many people are disillusioned and say they will abstain (e.g. Russell Brand), but I feel we should honour the fact that we have a vote at all, even if it means voting for the least worst option, or a minority party such as the Greens.

Aspects

Good laughs may be had on Sunday (18th) with Venus squaring Jupiter, though some may border on slapstick or laughing at another’s expense – do maintain your boundaries of decorum in this respect.

On Tuesday (20th) some aspects of our lives which have been on hold may start to move again, because Mars is stationary prior to turning direct again.  Librans especially have borne the brunt of its long sojourn in their sign, bringing them irritation and minor skirmishes which are not congenial to their harmony-loving nature.  Mars still has a way to go trawling back through the sign until it moves into Scorpio (26th July for those impatient to know), but it is the beginning of the end…And for those Librans who are able to utilize it to get things done in an uncomplicated way, make the most of that time.  Other signs may feel this shift in whatever House position it occupies in their chart.

A change of sign for the Sun on Wednesday (21st) as it moves into Gemini, moving away from practical issues and into lighter forms of manifestation, like the initial planting beginning to be rewarded by the opening of the flower petals.

I was with my 3 year old grandson on Wednesday, and he was asked about the highlight of his day.  He replied that he had seen a yellow poppy, and that the wind had blown its petals away.  Gemini manifestations may be more ephemeral than Taurean ones, but are no less profound! So enjoy the petals and gather your rosebuds…

Happily, the climax of the week comes on Saturday (24th), and after 3 disappointing Saturdays aspect-wise we have a trine, and a major one at that.  Jupiter trines Saturn, so if you are attending a wedding let’s say, it will be a perfect balance or mixture of the sensible (Saturn) and the frivolous (Jupiter).  It will be majestic, sacred, joyous, and all that you would wish a wedding to be.

If you have a special appointment with an expert, you should achieve exactly the outcome you want.  So I will be off to the hairdresser’s and emerge without a hair out of place, to be whisked off to a wedding reception on the coast…

Whatever you have planned for that day, may it be magical and workable in equal parts.  Jupiter and Saturn between them will ensure that you do not offend either, by being too serious or too irreverent (you will have learned the lessons of irreverence at the beginning of the week).

This trine forms a Grand Trine with the Jupiter-Chiron trine which occurred on Wednesday (14th), so there is still healing to be had and combined with the balance, respect and stateliness of the Jupiter-Saturn trine of May 24th.

The week in bullet points:

  • Sunday – love and laughter
  • Tuesday – a green light
  • Wednesday – new mental approach
  • Saturday – perfect balance

Aspects for the week beginning 11 May 2014

Eurovision Song Contest – 2014

I enjoy every nuance of the Eurovision Song Contest, and have done since watching Pearl Carr and Teddy Johnson, and the Allisons, in its early years as a young girl.  I enjoy the painful songs, the attention-grabbing costumes, and the edge-of-your-seat voting.  I even travelled to Duesseldorf in my early 60s to see Blue lose and cheer on Jedward.  Half the population, including half the population of our household, cannot fathom its appeal.  But I make no apology for today’s blog on the subject – I think the blog subjects choose me, rather than the other way round!

Politics

Before the break up of the Soviet Union, the voting section used to be much more pleasurable, and based more on the merits of the songs than geographic blocs, though they did exist.  Our Eurovision entry, by Molly Smitten-Downes last night I initially felt to be a little twee, despite being a hippy myself.  But she did a sterling job, and it was clear that the U.K. has no allies and is not part of a bloc.  We finished 17th, behind some very lack-lustre songs.

Russia and the Ukraine

The relationships between the various charts of countries would remain the same from year to year, but sometimes luck in Eurovision or other contests are shown in the transits to various countries’ charts.  And while sometimes there are minor tensions between the European countries, none have been as dramatic as this year’s question of whether Russia and the Ukraine would vote for each other.

Mariya Yaremchuk, representing Ukraine said: “I don’t want to think about Russia or any other country.  I  think only about Ukraine.  I want to be worthy of Ukrainians who deserve a better future in Europe.”

Meanwhile, the Russian twins who were performing received boos from the audience, and Russia condemned the Austrian entry, the bearded drag queen Conchita.

Voting

So what did actually happen in the voting politically?  So many of the Eastern European bloc actually did vote for the popular performances from Austria, the Netherlands and Sweden, that at one point Graham Norton was driven to remark that the voting had been quite reasonable and non-political.  At the very next vote, he was proven wrong, and forced to retract.

Ukraine gave 8 points to Austria, 10 points to Armenia and 12 points to Sweden, voting to some extent outside the Eastern bloc.

Russia gave 8 points to Armenia, 10 to Azerbaijan and 12 to Belarus, keeping it in the family.  Neither Ukraine nor Russia voted for each other.

Only Ireland gave our Molly a substantial vote: 8 points.  Malta, a rare country which usually supports the U.K., gave their big points to Romania, Austria and Italy.

Molly and the U.K.

We’re children of the universe, don’t you know
Dancing on the edge of time and it’s ours to own
Just children of the universe”

~ Molly Smitten-Downes and Anders Hansson

Molly has a no nonsense chart, Sun  exactly conjunct the North Node in Aries (she is a leader) near Jupiter for  Opportunity.  She also has Moon conjunct Mars though it is not known whether her Moon is in musical Taurus or communicative Gemini.  Her Venus (musicality) trines inspirational Neptune.  Her performance and costume were impressive, and she sang from the heart a song she believes in.

She came 17th, which is better than our usual placements further down the board…

Conchita and Austria

The winner Conchita Wurst (“the bearded lady”) from Austria delivered a strong ballad with a powerful voice.  Her statement after winning included the sentiments of peace, freedom and unity.

Conchita is a Plutonian: she has Sun very closely conjunct Pluto in Scorpio, trine her North Node (karmic mission).  She could not be more Plutonian if she tried.  Her chart shows an intense and determined character.

In her natal chart, she also has Moon conjunct Venus (intense femininity), Mercury sextile Saturn (a seriousness of message), unusual sexual expression (Mars square Uranus), Saturn conjunct Uranus (a desire to break the moulds of society).

Transiting Neptune was sextile her Neptune last night (in tune with her spirituality).  Mars was transiting her Moon/Venus conjunction and expressing her femininity (though we do not have her exact Moon position).  Pluto was supporting her to the hilt: It was sextile her Sun and natal Pluto.

For Austria, there was a transiting Jupiter Return (luck) trine its natal Venus (musical expression).

But Pluto was extremely prominent in Conchita’s natal chart and transits, and Pluto definitely won it.  So it was not about novelty or the surprise of the unusual, which would have been a Uranian emphasis.  It was about psychological depth and truth, and authenticity.  Conchita seemed genuinely surprised that people took her to their hearts, and that she was listened to.

She was quoted as saying: “The beard is a statement to say that you can achieve anything, no matter who you are or how you look.”

Aspects

Venus opposes Mars early today, another indication that a drag queen with a beard might have won last night’s Eurovision song contest.  The combining of the male and female is a theme, in ways antagonistic to some, but for others an act of unity.  Sensuality rules in the morning.  Mary Plumb of the Mountain Astrologer has written a whole article dedicated to this opposition, and here is the link if you want to explore it further:

http://mountainastrologer.com/tma/venus-and-mars-are-alright-tonight

One thing may lead to another today, and you may find yourself in the grip of the square between Mercury and Neptune, mentally ensnared or enslaved, like a fly in a spider’s web (I have been watching insects too much with my grandson lately).  Maybe a television programme or Facebook has you mesmerized…  You may find it difficult to think straight, especially if you have been to the pub before lunch.

Tomorrow’s Mercury trine Mars is a great contrast.  You’ll have sobered up and had a good sleep and your nervous system will be well co-ordinated, and efficiently in charge of Office chores.  Travel will be brisk, and manoevrability impressive on the sports field.

On Wednesday (14th) Jupiter trines Chiron, which can have successful outcomes for healing, e.g. alternative approaches or philosophical ideas along those lines, especially early in the day.

Late in the afternoon, Venus squares Pluto, and there may be difficult scenarios around relationships and coming to terms with aspects of the past, or phobias (which may be past-life related).

Tension is being heightened towards the Full Moon in Scorpio at 19.16 Hrs. in the U.K.  There may be tussles over money or material concerns, possessiveness and ownership issues.

Thursday (15th) is calmer with a lovely sextile between Venus and Mercury, designed to overcome writer’s block, handy if you are writing a novel, a speech or a poem.  Writing and literary output will flow.

Later in the evening Mercury sextiles Uranus, and if you think you have done well polishing off the novel,  writing the speech all in one go, or receiving inspiration for the poem in an instant transmission, you’ll surprise yourself, finding out you have hardly started.

Your mind will have been stimulated, and now explodes with new ideas, firing from all cylinders.  Best plan for a late night – there is no point trying to sleep and wrestling with insomnia.  Get all your ideas down on paper or on your i pad, so that you can implement some of them another day.

And there’s more!  Shortly afterwards, and just before midnight, Venus conjuncts Uranus.  You may be socializing late, and hopefully congenially.  Meetings will hold a spark, and strangers may be intriguing.  If you are being creative, your creations will incorporate great originality.

For the third week in a row, Saturday (17th) will bring a difficult aspect, in this case Mercury squaring Chiron.  An awkward problem could bring a headache (or migraine), and health may require attention.  Travel won’t be easy either.  You may find you have to change your mindset in order to make headway.

The week in bullet points:

  • Today – themes around male and female; confusion
  • Tomorrow – brisk and efficient
  • Wednesday – expansion and healing; relationship problems; emotional tension
  • Thursday – excellent for communication and originality; interesting meetings
  • Saturday – awkward

Aspects for the week beginning 4 May 2014

Peaches Geldof – Extract

This week it was announced that Peaches Geldof did have heroin in her system when she died last month.  Fresh faced Peaches  departed suddenly and inexplicably from our world on 7th April 2014, leaving behind two very young sons.

She often spoke of the overwhelming effect her mother’s death had in her life.  In her chart,  Chiron (wound and healing) were at the beginning of the sign of Cancer, that degree and sign emphasizing the mother.  Chiron points to the wound, but also the manner in which it may be healed (becoming a mother, which gave her some respite) and also the means by which you can then go on to help others (writing about motherhood in the media).  Sadly, other processes cut through that healing.

She was born for broadcasting, with Mercury conjunct the North Node in the 5th House of Self-Expression, and a life of glamour too was indicated by a conjunction of Venus with the Sun in Pisces in the same House.

Peaches’ depressive tendency is shown by an exact conjunction between Saturn and Neptune.  Pluto was transiting this conjunction, testing it to the limits, at the time of her death.

Deborah Orr writing in the Guardian yesterday emphasized her Idealism, and that she could never come up to her own ideals.  That is a trait of her Piscean sunsign.  Pisces is ruled by the unbounded (in terms of consciousness) planet Neptune.

With Saturn exactly conjunct her Neptune, she did try to confine herself to systems which were disciplined: dieting, Scientology and attachment parenting among them.  Sooner or later the bonds burst and the soul tries to break free of restrictions.

Between her and her mother was a strong force, a square between Paula’s Pluto and Peaches’ Mars. Could this aspect have exerted a force from beyond the grave?

She presented a normal picture to her friends and family in her last weekend alone., which made her death difficult to prevent.

We have no birth date for Peaches’ husband Thomas Cohen. Her children Astala and Phaedra will be affected by their mother’s tragic early death, but we do not know how their wounds will play out.  Astala, the elder son, was born under a New Moon which will give him some resilence, though his chart is more stressed in relation to his mother.  Phaedra had an easy bond with her, and also a bond with Paula Yates, in sharing a birthday. The two boys both have Mercury conjunct Uranus, and will enjoy a close mental companionship.  Let us hope that they, like Tiger, can be absorbed into the wide extended family, receive positive nurturing, and be protected from the media….

Aspects

The Sun trines Pluto today, a good day for reviewing deep psychological processes, whether or not you have active plans for this Bank Holiday weekend.

On Tuesday (6th) the Sun sextiles Jupiter, another fun filled day (I hope).  The Bank Holiday may have put a spring in your step, and for instance inspired a regime of nature walks.

Wednesday (7th) continues the upbeat progression, with the Sun sextile Chiron.  Possibilities of healing bring hope and new ways of managing things.

Mercury enters Gemini just after lunchtime that day, which will be a relief to Geminis and Virgoans especially those who may have felt their mental processes to have been wading through mud during its sojourn in methodical Taurus.  They can zip around now, as is natural for them.  For the rest of us we’ll be brighter mentally, too, and may be able to clear some red tape.

As with last week, we have a more challenging Saturday scenario.  Last week Saturn opposed Mercury which may have brought some mental stuckness, and this coming Saturday Saturn opposes the Sun, which may make manifesting our creativity a more challenging process.  But any delays or frustrations or blocks may contribute to the end result, which will emerge more tried, tested and genuine.

The week in bullet points:

  • Today – deep psychological exploration
  • Tuesday – fun (I hope)
  • Wednesday – healing; zippy thought
  • Saturday – slowed down creative processes

Peaches Honeyblossom Geldof-Cohen

“In the land of Gods and Monsters
I was an Angel…
No one’s gonna take my soul away
I’m living like Jim Morrison”

~ Song by Lana del Ray

Peaches Honeyblossom Geldof-Cohen

In this blog, I look at the back story, and the heritage from characters in her life or those who may have had an influence.

Themes of Chiron and wounding, Neptune and addiction, and Pluto and death (Keats’ phrase from Ode to a Nightingale “half in love with easeful death” describes it well) loom large in the story.  Neptune and Pluto particularly represent the veil between life and death in different ways.  We all have addiction, to some degree.

Jim Morrison

You might wonder why Jim Morrison is in my narrative, if so please bear with me.  When I go back in my mind, I always go back to this as the origin of the story.

Jim Morrison was the ultimate rock god, and one of those who perished suddenly and mysteriously, possibly under a haze of heroin.

In his chart Chiron was exactly square his Sun, so his wounding was emphasized, but he put out such a body of creativity in his songs and poetry, and was so successful in terms of rock stardom, that it is difficult to detect what the wound was.  He may have died of a heart attack,  and Chiron would have put a strain on the heart physically and emotionally.

Pluto was conjunct exactly the North Node, showing the rock god Archetype.  The rock god Archetype comes under Scorpio and its ruler Pluto, with its edgy, slightly destructive passion.  Mars trine the Ascendant added to his considerable charisma.

Mercury sextile Venus exactly revealed the Writer Archetype – he was a consummate poet and songwriter.

Jupiter exactly square the Midheaven/I.C. axis gave him a larger than life career and lifestyle.  At his death Jupiter was conjunct his Midheaven and square his natal Jupiter, in this case indicating an explosive leap into another dimension, but we do not know the reason or the exact circumstances. At  his death also Pluto opposed his Ascendant, a transit which can result in an out of the body experience.

He was reportedly found in a bathtub and if true that is represented by natal Neptune in the 8th house (a watery death).  Rumours surrounded his death in Paris on 3/7/71  at the age of 27, including the possibility of a heroin overdose, but the police decided not to investigate.  He was found by his partner Pamela Courson who later herself died at 27 of a heroin overdose

What would have happened if Morrison hadn’t died?

Michael Hutchence

It is no secret that Michael Hutchence admired and to some extent modelled himself on Jim Morrison. He also resembled him physically. Michael was also prone to swagger on stage in the manner of Mick Jagger.  But he did identify closely with Jim Morrison.

He had Part of Fortune / Moon / Neptune in the rock god sign of Scorpio. His Part of Fortune was conjunct exactly Morrison’s Venus, an almost religious attachment.

Early in his career, before he met Paula Yates, he wrote the song “Suicide Blonde”, a haunting and prophetic title in the light of Paula’s later heroin overdose.

Perhaps Bob Geldof was not enough of a rock god for Paula, for she fell in love with Michael Hutchence and was determined to be with him, in the singleminded way of Sun in Taurus.

His Neptune was squaring Paula’s Ascendant, which will have fascinated her. His Moon exactly opposed her Sun, giving the feeling that they completed each other.

Just before he died, he was waiting to hear whether Paula would be allowed to bring their daughter Tiger out to Australia where he was touring, due to a tussle with Bob Geldof.  He was in distress over this, but we do not know how much this contributed to his death by self strangulation.

Neptune (drugs and mystery) was transiting his Mercury at the time, so he will have experienced mental confusion. Pluto was squaring his Pluto, which is one of the most difficult transits we face. There is still mystery surrounding his death.

At the time he died the Nodal Axis was squaring Peaches’ Moon, which represented a karmic event affecting the mother. The chart of the daughter of Michael and Paula, Tiger, also registered the impact of an emotional loss for the mother: Saturn opposite Tiger’s Moon. For Tiger too it was a karmic event, with the North Node transiting her Ascendant.

A tragic early death was part of the myth which Hutchence was following.  Once he had embraced that path, could he have turned back from the same sudden ending as his predecessor?  Would he and Paula Yates have provided the stability and security which Peaches craved?

Paula Yates

Paula Yates was a strong willed Taurean, with a showbiz Leo Ascendant and quirky Uranus rising. Her Uranus was her guiding light, exactly sextile her North Node, and her daughter  Peaches also had this aspect, to one degree – another career mirror.

Paula’s Chiron was exactly conjunct her Part of Fortune in Aquarius in her 7th House of relationships.

In his autobiography “Is that It?”, originally written before they divorced, Bob Geldof wrote about how he admired Paula’s combination of strength and quirkiness, and how she mesmerized him in the early years of their relationship.

She loved her daughters, and wrote books on mothering.  She was a successful and driven TV presenter.  But the death of Michael Hutchence broke her spirit, and months before she died she received another blow, in relation to her parentage.  It was said that she sewed Michael’s ashes into her pillow, like some tragic pre-Raphaelite heroine  Her death by heroin overdose was in turn a blow to the family, and Peaches never recovered according to her own admission.  If Paula had survived, there is every chance that Peaches would have.

Jesse Yates

Both Paula Yates’ adoptive father and her real father were television presenters, so it is easy to see why she took that career path. Then with identification with her mother, Peaches took the same career route.

Paula’s mother Elaine Smith was an actress and author, but we do not have a birth date for her.  We also know little about her, or her role in Paula’s life, psyche and process.

That Jesse’s true role in her life was hidden from her is shown by his Neptune on her Ascendant, a fundamental fact kept from her.

Hughie Green

We do not know what effect it had on Paula to be brought up by Jesse Yates, while not knowing for almost all her life that Hughie Green was her real father.

Paula and Hughie (who died before she knew he was her father and the fact was shockingly revealed shortly before her death) had a karmic parent/child tie of Moon (Paula’s) conjunct North Node (Hughie’s). The karma was played out by separation, and the separation is shown by her Uranus opposing his Sun. Would she have survived if she had known her true father?

Bob Geldof

Paula’s first husband Sir Bob Geldof is an edgy personality, and musical (Libran) but has no planets in the rock god sign of Scorpio, a compelling opposite sign for Paula. With Chiron rising in Sagittarius and Moon rxactly trine Jupiter he has a desire to heal the world!

He was unable to control either Paula and Peaches – Paula as the strong willed Taurean, and Peaches as an uncontainable Pisces

Bob Geldof, after the deaths of Paula and Michael, evolved into a Patriarch Archetype.  He fought and won custody of Tiger to keep her with her sisters, has kept the family together, and vows to do so now in the current circumstances.

In his clash with Michael Hutchence, he was the victor in terms of psychological toughness.

Geldof and Jagger are survivors in the rock world – Jagger has 5 planets and the North Node in Leo which gives him vitality, love of life, and a fierce hold on it.

Peaches’ Children

We have no birth date for Peaches’ husband Thomas Cohen. Her children Astala and Phaedra will be affected by their mother’s tragic early death, but we do not know how their wounds will play out.  Astala, the elder son, was born under a New Moon which will give him some resilence, though his chart is more stressed in relation to his mother.  Phaedra had an easy bond with her, and also a bond with Paula Yates, in sharing a birthday. The two boys both have Mercury conjunct Uranus, and will enjoy a close mental companionship.  Let us hope that they, like Tiger, can be absorbed into the wide extended family, receive positive nurturing, and be protected from the media.

Aspects for the week beginning 27 April 2014

Aftermath of the Cardinal Grand Cross

Will you remember the Cardinal Grand Cross as a crisis, or a shift, or in other ways?  Was our experience as expected, or different from our expectations?  Was the magnitude of the event more, or less, significant than anticipated?

Globally

On a global scale one would expect an event or events which potentially involve the whole world when the Grand Cross extends to four corners of a chart.

This week in the Middle East, President Assad of Syria declared he would hold an election, Hamas and Fatah realigned in the Palestinian world, and in Israel Netanyahu declared the peace process buried – all unhelpful directions, but not flashpoints as such.

This leaves the simmering situation in the Ukraine as the most relevant feature of the Cardinal Grand Cross globally, and though it was menacing, but not at a peak of activity, there was talk of a third world war among the rhetoric this week.

The issue did not reach a peak, neither was it resolved.  It has been an issue for two months leading up to the Cardinal Grand Cross, and possibly may continue for more than two months after it.

It is time to take another look at the charts involved. A lot has happened since I last broached the subject, when the uprising in Ukraine first occurred:

Ukraine

At the time of the “Ukraine Spring” Uranus was squaring the Uranus in the chart of Ukraine.  Rebellion to the extreme!  The disruption soon escalated, and Putin intervened militarily to reclaim Eastern Ukraine, and the Crimea.  The whole issue goes back to the birth of Ukraine itself, and the dismemberment of the USSR.  Putin seems to have a desire to re-write that history.  During the Cardinal Grand Cross, Pluto was on the Neptune of the Ukrainian chart, with the other three arms of the Grand Cross squaring and opposing it, thus describing a state of confusion.

Russia and Putin

At the time of the Ukrainian Spring, Pluto was transiting Russia’s Uranus, an extreme provocation or temptation for Russia.  During the Cardinal Grand Cross, Mars and Uranus had come to square this point, fanning the flames of the original event.  Let us hope it is not another Cold War, the original of which lasted for many years. When the Ukrainian crisis started, Pluto was square Putin’s Sun, and Saturn was transiting Putin’s Pluto: big issues of power for him, but no one can see into his mind.  He seems in love with power, but what is his motive?  And how far will he go in its pursuit?  Putin’s Sun (his individuality, and quest for personal power) was last week transited by the Pluto leg of the Cardinal Grand Cross, with the other three planets squaring and opposing his Sun.  You could say he was fully engaged with it, or even the centre of attention.

U.S. and Obama

At the time of the start of the crisis, Pluto was opposing the U.S. Sun, and Mars was squaring its Pluto, both aspects of danger.  President Obama is doing his best to contain the situation, and to avoid provoking Russian and Putin, while standing firm and promoting sanctions.  At the stage of the Cardinal Grand Cross, as with Putin the Sun of the U.S. chart is inextricably involved with the four arms of the cross, with Jupiter instead of Pluto on the Sun. At the inception of the crisis, the North Node was trine Obama’s Venus, and this week Neptune was opposing Obama’s Pluto, taking him on a journey from calm karma to psychological confusion.

EU and Angela Merkel

The European Union started this conflict in a strong position with Uranus trine its Uranus, and Neptune trine its Neptune.  It would have been holding the cards, but for a square from Uranus to its Sun, so it was caught on the back foot in some ways.  As the financial leader of the EU, and with her country Germany dependent on Russian energy, Angela Merkel had Neptune opposite her Venus at the beginning of this story (a question of trust over gas, which is represented by Neptune).  Saturn trined her Uranus, giving her steadiness, but squared her Pluto (which emphasized the seriousness of the situation and its possible consequences). Mars and Uranus are currently in supportive aspects to her Ascendant, so she can stand up for her interests if needed.

UK and David Cameron

The United Kingdom looks more detached to start with, having some easy aspects.  The exception was Uranus square its Pluto, involvement in an intractable and potentially hazardous situation, among more upbeat scenarios such as the reported growth of our economy.  During the Grand Cross, the United Kingdom chart was not involved with the key planets, especially in comparison to other countries and personalities.  The same is true of David Cameron’s chart.  I included them in my survey out of interest, but it is interesting that they prove not to be key players astrologically.

Conclusion

If the position of Mars, lingering long in Libra is the key to the timing of this crisis, it returns to the original position of 27 degrees Libra in July (21st/22nd).  If the Cardinal Grand Cross is the key to the conflict, it may resolve a month earlier (where the Grand Cross would be the peak).  Let us hope it is not another Cold War (which seems unlikely), the original of which lasted for 44 years.

In our Personal Lives

The Cardinal Cross brought crises for some, and the aftermath brought some resolution and healing for others.  I have briefly analyzed the experiences reported to me, and here are the results!

20% of us were bystanders, or enablers, for a group experience, focused on the crises of one or two others.  The outcomes appeared to be healing, which arrived just after the Cardinal Grand Cross action.

20% of us experienced a shift, just after the Cardinal Grand Cross  action, in issues of long standing difficulty (timescale: months).  It is possible that the Grand Cross had thrown a long shadow beforehand.

20% experienced severe crises, especially at the finale or crescendo of the T-square between Mars-Pluto-Uranus.  Of this category, 10% experienced relief after the Grand Cross ended, while for the other 10% the crisis signaled the beginning of a journey.(timescale: months).

10% experienced stress during the Cardinal Grand Cross, with celebratory outcomes immediately afterwards.

10% experienced a stressful situation coming up to the start of the Grand Cross, a crisis right at the beginning of the process, and relief after the Grand Cross.

10% experienced gradual relief over the period, where the tension and stress, and health problems had occurred just prior to the Cardinal Grand Cross or a couple of months beforehand, and there was slight and gradual improvement in the situation during and after the period.

10% took the bull by the horns and were able to work with the situation, using astrological understanding, to welcome new forms into their lives.

Did your experiences fall into this category, or would you describe them differently?

Aspects

Today the Sun is sextile Neptune, so it is a good day for experiencing your Spirituality.  Meditation or a walk in nature are possible avenues for connecting with your Soul, and reaping its riches.

Tuesday (29th) is an Eclipsed New Moon at 8 degrees Taurus.  This may be a new beginning, especially if you have Taurus rising or have a planet at 8 degrees.  Those who were especially affected by the first Uranus-Pluto square in June 2012 may experience this intensely, for that first square of the two planets took place at 8 degrees.  Eclipses can take up to 6 months to show their full effects, which can be turning points.

The same day, Mercury trines Pluto, and you won’t brush off the effects of the day lightly.  You will analyze them deeply.  You will be able to find the significance in the slightest manifestation of the day.

On Wednesday (30th) Mercury sextiles Jupiter, and Geminis and Virgos should make hay while the Sun shines, as their planet Mercury has a more difficult aspect at the weekend.  It is a good day for sales, business, learning, and travel.  Enjoyable conversational exchanges are to be had by all Sunsigns!

Saturday (May 3rd) brings an opposition between Mercury and Saturn, so by then careless talk can cost lives!  Have you been bragging, or been careless about broadcasting someone else’s secret?  Be aware of the consequences of speech, and the karma of thought.  Be more circumspect, and more sensitive about other people’s sensitivities and information.

Finally, on the same day, Venus enters Aries, and we can be more honest and open and warm in the expression of our feelings.  It may seem like a contradiction next to the previous aspect, but the task is to differentiate between thoughts and speech, which need to be disciplined that day, and expressions of love which can be unbounded and authentic.

The week in bullet points:

  • Today – Spirituality rules
  • Tuesday – new beginnings and profound thoughts
  • Wednesday – fun
  • Saturday – be careful what you say, unless it is an expression of love

Aspects for the week beginning 20 April 2014

Cardinal Grand Cross

Part 2 – Here and Now

In the Christian calendar, Easter represents the crucifixion, as well as the resurrection.  The symbol for this is a cross, though not the equal armed cross.  In the esoteric astrology of Alice Bailey, the Cardinal cross represents initiation, and is the most potent of the three types of grand cross (the other two being the Mutable, and the Fixed crosses).  This week the two traditions coincide.  In a birthchart it is rare to find a grand cross, but those who have one are challenged by personal crises which may sometimes feel like a trial, or an initiation.  The task for us this week is to understand and embrace the personal and collective challenges it brings.  We can start by deconstructing the Grand Cross into its component parts:

Components of the Grand Cross

The Grand Cross is composed of 4 planets in opposition, which also creates 4 squares.  Learn to recognize these forces within yourself, around you, and in the wider world.  You may then be alert to ideas, or guidance, about the best way forward.  Under aspects I will give the timings of all these components, but you may notice any of them at any time throughout the week, and that may help you understand what is going on and how you should proceed, particularly if you have a responsibility for others or are caught up in a group drama.  You may already know what this week’s dilemmas may entail, and it may be one issue or a complexity of issues.

Oppositions

The oppositions are easier to deal with, as the signs of the two planets have a connection which enables them to blend or be transcended in unity.

Pluto opposite Jupiter

Pluto opposite Jupiter is about power play, with often one protagonist trying to exercise their power to the hilt, as in the current display by Putin.  The connecting issues of the signs which they occupy are Order (Pluto is in Capricorn) and Family (Jupiter is in Cancer) so work/life balance may be required.

Uranus opposite Mars

This combination is about accidents or incident-proneness, and the excitement of initiating change.  In truth there are no accidents, as everything has a purpose and there is a meaning for everything, but often we are taken unawares and do not realize the higher Soul purpose in the heat of the moment.

The Squares

The squares are the most challenging components of the Grand Cross.  They  involve compulsion, seemingly wrong turns, clashes and disharmony.  As there are four, it may seem as though events are locked into position, and there are few options on the ground.  But spiritually, there may be a bigger perspective, and more options than at first glance.  Again, taking into account the interlocking squares will help bring them together in your mind when you encounter them, and help you pull together your options, particularly if you are in a position of leadership.  If you are not in a position of leadership you may have a valuable insight for the group.

Pluto square Uranus

This is the most important of the squares, and I have blogged separately about this  (find it below this blog, or by clicking the bar on the right entiteled “Uranus square Pluto – Phase 5”).  This seemingly anarchic aspect is revolutionary on both counts (Uranus and Pluto) and has been operating for a couple of years, and due to go on for another year.  It is therefore a process, technically one of dismantling outworn institutions, but in its negative form is revolution for its own sake without a thought of what will replace the turmoil.  Thus some of the Arab Spring movements (which began when Uranus entered Aries, before the Uranus-Pluto square) have found that the new forms of society haven’t materialized as hoped, and there is still much work to do.

Uranus  square Jupiter

This square  is one of the two easier components: there is an element of surprise, luck and hope in this mix.  It is also an opportunity for the entrepreneurs among you, especially if motivated by good will, love of humanity, and a desire to help rather than only self-interest, to make a difference.  It is a good idea to examine your motives thoroughly, so that your actions have the highest outcomes.  I have included the best outcomes under Aspects, for each component, so that if you see that the proceedings are going towards positive solutions, you can help them along.

Jupiter square Mars

Jupiter squaring Mars brings a concentration of energy and enthusiasm, a fuel for getting things done on a practical level.  There is also some joy to be had, where the atmosphere is conducive to smooth outcomes.  For instance, in meditation this can produce ecstasy, bliss or travel to other dimensions.  It is the energy of rapture.

Mars square Pluto

Second in order of difficulty after Uranus square Pluto, this aspect occurs once every year or two, and often coincides with violence on some scale, such as the assassination of a prominent figure.  It will be important to be vigilant about aggression, coercion or even violence, and not be complacent.

The whole

Take all of these components into account and bring them together in your mind or meditation, using perhaps a symbol or a word such as “Peace” as your central purpose or intention. The aspect section which follows gives you the timing of each square and opposition, and possible higher outcomes which you can assist.

Aspects

This morning the Sun went into Taurus, representing the indomitable spirit needed for this week of the Grand Cardinal Cross, and the will power to stand firm in the face of what does not seem right, e.g. non-violent resistance.  But also knowing when to surrender to the divine, and also the wisdom to know the difference.  More often than not, our own personal will is actually aligned with the divine will.

Also this morning one of the easier squares took place: that of Jupiter square Uranus.  This is it folks!  The first leg of the Grand Cross, and the spring board for hope that things will change for the better.  There is an element of surprise and luck, e.g. you may think you have made a wrong turn, but it may have been for your own protection, saving you from greater disruption.

Optimal Outcome: Opportunity for the Entrepreneur

This evening Jupiter opposes Pluto, which is the power play or stand off element of the Grand Cross.  One party may overestimate their power, and power itself may be seen for what it is.

Optimal Outcome: The limits of Power are reached and Co-operation Beckons

Tomorrow, Uranus squares Pluto (Phase 5).  There could be a total disruption.  If it were not a Bank Holiday in the U.K. people would have felt like striking!  If you are within a family dynamic, someone may rebel or go on strike.  A Bank Holiday may be a safer haven to act out such feelings!  In the wider world, this may be one of the stickier moments in confrontations.

Optimal Outcome: Stress may turn into Surrender and Relaxation after reaching a Peak

On Tuesday (22nd) Jupiter squares Mars, which can produce pure energy and enthuisiasm combined.  Some types may want to fan the flames of conflagration, however.  This aspect can propel the consciousness into another dimension, such as in meditation, or in others it may take them into a misguided direction, e.g.  when people can get in the wrong sort of company.

Optimal Outcome: Creative Action or Energies and Ideas brought through from other Dimensions

On Wednesday (23rd) Mars opposes Uranus in the morning, which brings another opportunity for change and surprise (if not shock).  Following on from yesterday, your motto needs to be “Be Prepared”!  What contingency plans do you have?  Think through loopholes in advance and be prepared to institute interim measures which will be helpful to reconstruction.  You may be required to think on your feet.

Optimal Outcome: She/He Who Prepares Wins

Still in the morning on Wednesday, Mercury enters Taurus, and you may change your mindset.  If you have been in a combative mindset (Mercury in Aries) you may now be thinking more in terms of stability and taking practical thoughts or steps.  It will be easier to have patience and think of the longer view.  However helpful, this may prove to be a background feature, as the Cardinal Cross has not quite completed its work.

Later in the day Mars squares Pluto, and so you cannot rest on your laurels.  This is one of the two more destructive of the four squares.  There may be international tensions, and violence abroad, and tension at home.  If you are aware of any of the components of the Grand Cross at this time, it is good to actively defuse any tensions.  If you are not required out in the field, hunker down and protect your own interests.  Surrender may be an option, but it is essential to look to the safety and welfare of the weakest of the tribe, such as the elderly or the disabled, as you move on collectively.

Optimal Outcome: Tension recognized and Defused

It is always darkest before the Dawn, and the Cardinal Grand Cross certainly ends with a confrontational crescendo of Mars square Pluto.  Thursday (24th) is a respite from aspects, and the beginning of the Dawn.

Friday (25th) has a trine between Venus and Saturn, a reconstruction of sorts, an opportunity to rebuild relationships or new foundations after the brinkmanships and demands of most of the week.

On Saturday (26th) the Sun conjuncts Mercury at 6 degrees Taurus, and thoughts and ideas crystallize about how to proceed in a practical and calm direction.  Later, Mercury sextiles Neptune and a space is cleared to receive inspiration and to bring practical and spiritual ideas together.

In all my years of blogging, I have never known a week like it!  It will be an intense week of learning, experiencing and challenge, but I hope meaning and fun will be in the mix too, so we’ll be able to see it as a memorable shift.

The week in bullet points:

  • Today – Surprise, and Power
  • Tomorrow – Complexity and Change
  • Tuesday – Energy and Enthusiasm
  • Wednesday – Incidents, and the need to defuse tension
  • Friday – Reconstruction in relationships
  • Saturday – Inspired thought

Uranus square Pluto – Phase 5

21 April 2014,  19.21 Hrs in the U.K.

This week sees the fifth of seven squares between Uranus and Pluto, which began in June 2012 and will end in March 2015, the penultimate occurring in December.

Although we are over halfway through the process, this week’s square will be extra concentrated, by virtue of being a component (the most powerful component) of the Cardinal Grand Cross.  So instead of affecting two areas of your chart, it will be more comprehensive in its reach, i.e. coordinating 4 areas of your chart, and world charts.

At the beginning of the process, in June 2012, we were aware that it would entail the dismantling of institutions, and this has really proved to be the case.

Looking back at my blog in 2012, here are some useful ideas which still apply:

Identifying the Square

First you need to identify the action of the square in your life, if it is not glaringly obvious.  Basically two different energies in two different areas of your life have been building up a storm.

[by now you are likely to know what the issue is]

Knowing your Chart

If you know which areas Pluto and Uranus are currently transiting, it is easier to make sense of how they are affecting you, and your nearest and dearest.

Not Knowing your Chart

If you do not know which areas Pluto and Uranus are currently transiting, you may be able to sense which area is being affected by Pluto energy, and which area is being affected by Uranian energy.

Pluto

The area containing Pluto is the more passive but psychologically demanding area, and the area in which you will by acceptance and absorption achieve the most work over a long period of time.  (Pluto and Capricorn the sign it is transiting are both slow and deep-seated).

Uranus

The area containing Uranus will be the ignition or trigger for events and the surprise factor, as well as the rebellion.  It will make more noise and be more active (Uranus and Aries the sign it is transiting are both active and volatile).

Degrees of Involvement

If you have a planet or planets at 13 degrees of a sign, you are more likely to be involved in events, and the effect of the square will be enhanced.  You may feel some benefits to the square if Uranus or Pluto are trine one of your natal planets, or at least a mixed influence.

The Global Picture

At the beginning of the square, these issues were highlighted:

“You may have an idea of how clashing forces in your life are squaring up.  In the world situation, it relates to the dilemmas and intractable complexity of the Euro (to bail out or not to bail out), the Syrian Question (to intervene or not to intervene) and the climate issue (climate change or climate change denial).”

The problems of the Euro are still rumbling on, but the preoccupation in the U.K. has turned to issues about immigration, the rise in popularity of UKIP, and the possibility of a referendum if the Tories win the next election.

The Syrian question is even more dire.  It was the main story on the front of the Observer this morning.  The article begins: “The desperate residents of a besieged  district of Damascus are expected to run out of food today, leaving 18,000 people facing starvation and leading relief agencies to declare the  crisis ‘unprecedented in living memory’ “: An acute  reflection of this unprecedented Uranus-Pluto square and Cardinal cross.

Climate change has I think proved itself more starkly over the last two years, with the U.K. particularly hit by flooding  over the last year.  There is still a reluctance to act on behalf of politicians.  Controversy surrounds the practice of fracking to obtain shale gas here in the U.K. but is in widespread use in the U.S.  Our one Green M.P. Caroline Lucas, was recently cleared in relation to her involvement of a demonstration against fracking, and has vowed to fight on.  I personally don’t think that on this tiny island we can afford to have fracking or nuclear stations, and am in favour of wind farms.  The sight of them always gives me hope for the future.

The increase of poverty caused by the economic collapse (and I don’t believe government assertions about recovery) have made problems more acute for many families, and it is to the credit of the Christian church that the cause has been taken up.

The U..K. Coalition government is dismantling the NHS, and that was a feature of my blog a few weeks ago.  One wonders how it is going to be put back together.

On the world stage there is a new brinkmanship involving Putin and Russia, the U.S. and  Obama, the EU and Angela Merkel, and the Ukranian people themselves in a civil war.  This is of course a prominent feature of the Cardinal Cross, which will be the subject of a later blog today.  The recent Malaysian plane disappearance and the South Korean ferry disaster may also be features of the Cardinal Cross, of which Uranus squaring Pluto is a quarter of the picture.

Conclusion

Yes the Uranus-Pluto square has proved to be destructive, and many problems are still stuck, with very little sign of green shoots, repairing, or new structures emerging.  But there are new attitudes emerging, some of which may eventually prove constructive, such as the Occupy movement, and the tendency for people now to be feeling enough is enough.   Some countries around the world are starting to initiate democracy where there has been oppression and the suppression of women.  At the same time, in countries where stability and democracy have been established, there is a questioning of whether democracy and capitalism are working.  It all still feels to be a process still in transition, with everything still in the melting pot.  Now, more than ever, we need to be constructive in our personal choices, including our choice of thoughts.

Aspects for the week beginning 13 April 2014

Cardinal Grand Cross

Preparations – Part 1

The Grand Cardinal Cross takes place between 20th-23rd April inclusive, and will be very intense.  It is composed of 2 oppositions (Mars opposite Uranus and Jupiter opposite Pluto) and four squares (Mars square Pluto, Pluto square Uranus, Uranus square Jupiter and Jupiter square Mars).  World events are likely to reflect this set of interlocked problems (such as the problems between Russia and the rest of the world over the Ukraine), and you may have noticed crises building in society or your own personal circles.  So I have devised some preparation, in two parts.  The situation can be looked upon as an opportunity for everyone to get their act together.  I will be doing regressions and future life progressions in the Watford area during that time, and I feel like that will prove to be taking the bull by the horns.

General principles

You need to strengthen the function of each arm of the Cross.  For example, if you have a weak Jupiter principle, you may lose sight of the Hope you need for the task.  If you can balance all four psychological principles as represented by the four planets involved, you will be creative rather than responsive to events. Take my Quiz below to find out where your strengths and weaknesses lie, and what you need to work on or develop before 20th April:

Coming Next Week – Part 2

 Aspects

On Monday (14th) you have a chance to flex your muscles prior to the Cardinal Grand Cross with a mild square.  This square of Mercury and Jupiter tends to produce over-stretching of resources, especially mental and geographic (e.g. travelling) resources.

By the evening, with all the mental stimulation, your antennae will be twitching with information from other dimensions, with a conjunction of Mercury and Uranus.

At 23.48 Hrs in the U.K., only 33 minutes after Mercury conjunct Uranus, and only 12 minutes before midnight, Pluto turns retrograde, and our psyches may take a turn, or revolve to an earlier state.  Issues we thought we had resolved may need another layer of examination.

In the. early hours of Tuesday (15th)  Mercury is trying out the Cardinal Grand Cross for size, gathering information prior to the involvement of Mars.  This time it squares Pluto, and you may feel temporarily confused about your reality.  Something you thought was true may be in doubt, for instance.  Consider that both realities may be true.

Later, you awake, rise and shine on Tuesday to an eclipse, so preparation the night before would be helpful.  If you wake in the night from the Mercury-Pluto square, have yourself some chamomile tea and lavender on your pillow in order to have a complete sleep cycle in between, before the Full Moon.  That way, through your dreams or through deep sleep, you may access the deep wisdom of this Full Moon in Libra, which may bet attuned to relationships, your relationship with yourself, or artistic or musical expression.

On Wednesday (16th ) Mercury opposes Mars late morning, and tension and irritability may bring frayed tempers or nerves.  Again that window asleep may have proved crucial to how you perform in the day.  If circumstances allow, go back to bed and re-set your nervous system.  Otherwise, stay away from fractious types.

Friday (18th  ) brings some welcome and light relief from the pre-Cardinal Cross angst.  Venus trines Jupiter, and you may have a pre-planned or impromptu celebration, or an enjoyable social occasion to look forward to. There is a chance to let your hair down and relax in the company of friends and loved ones. This aspect takes place in the early hours of the morning, so its benefits may have extended to the evening before, i.e. Thursday night.

Mid-morning brings another favourable aspect towards Venus, a sextile with Pluto.  Someone you met socially might prove that they are not just a pretty face, in fact they may just have a diploma in counseling, and you can counsel each other.  Role play the Cardinal Cross, and you will really be making the most of this warm and non-frivolous aspect.  Anyone having a diploma in counseling should make good use of this morning.

If you have followed the suggestions for Part 1, you’ll be nearly ready and limbered up for the exercise and tasks of next week.

The week in bullet points:

  • Monday – expansion, then original thinking; a psychological volte-face
  • Tuesday – drama
  • Wednesday – brisk and fractious
  • Friday – relief and breakthroughs
